a) will ettr always ensure we capture a good exposure and
b) will going over ettr allow us to reduce exposure in post and give a better image?

Yes it applies as long as you don't blow out any parts of the image

a) it may overexpose and require pulling it back. Overexposure != good exposure but you've got the gist of it.

Optimally for more efficient workflow you'd use a light meter to match the exposures.

Can you tell me since when exactly the new bad frames problem started, were the march versions before okay (there were a lot)? I just need to start my final degree work next week and would like to stick with 1.1.3 because of 50p. But I want to minimize the risk of getting bad frames Which nightly to take?

And just of curiosity. Do you think, that it is okay to get the newest ML nightly, but exchange the older, more stable mlv_rec module? Or should I better leave it alone, because the module is connected to the Firmware and could produce version dependent errors.

EDIT: Oh, one more question. I noticed, that in 1280 mode the pixel height for cinemascope is now 1920x490 rather than 1920x508 before. Is this supposed to be? If yes, what is the reason, because many people could get continuous 1920x508 50p. I thought maybe this way you can get continuous 1920x490 60p but no chance. I have the latest 5d3 build with the MLV_REC and SND from the August build and it works perfectly.

Then stop using it and go away to thy land of Tin Foil Hats.

Then have a couple of external 1TB drives that mirror each other, that's where I store the data.

I transcode to ProRes's highest quality with Cinelog-C and delete the MLVs. Takes up about 60% of the space of the MLV.

With the newly released version I'm getting tearing and random colourful frames. KB64/1000x cards & 5d3. Anyone else? What do you need to troubleshoot?

Why aren't you getting any aliasing?

I've had to stop using this program because the drive disappears when I try to read the files in Resolve, though the mount points still shows up on my desktop. When I try to open it nothing is there, if I restart my iMac and then reload MLVFS it will work for a bit but then I'll try and view the files in the folder again and it will stop working. The only thing that works for a while is uninstalling OS X fuse and reinstalling it and then it stops working again after some short time. What logs do you need to troubleshoot?

Oddly enough I have the Ninja Blade and 422 and when I shoot flat and expose for the highlights with good lighting, the h264 looks as good as the raw.

I use Leitax adapters on all my Contax Zeiss: 28/2,35/1.4,50/1.4,85/1.4,100/2.8makro,135/2.8 and they all report max aperture. I also shoot in M with the Autoexposure or ETTR modules, though it works great shooting in Av too. Try the Leitaxs... Expensive but way more solid than a non screwed-in adapter.

Are you compiling a later build for 1.2.3? If so can you share it?
