General Chat / Re: C200 RAW 4K internal

I really don't understand Canon. They don't give their DSLRs RAW goodies or better codecs in fear of taking out there Cine line, right? But they give their cheaper Cine line camera better specs then there more expensive Cine cams.... They make no sense and their product specs are all over the place.

Picture style has no affect on RAW data. It may affect how you expose it if you are not using RAW zebras or RAW histogram.
FPS override has nothing to do with picture styles.

As far as I'm aware (simple) 4x4 binning would result in monochrome video :D, so whoever said that is wrong - don't worry, it has 3x3 binning... unless of course they went full Canon and made it 5x5, which is extremely unlikely and would look terrible
hahaha 5x5!!!!
4x4 Binning = Monochrome, never new or fully understood the binning process.
3x3 would be a dream on 5d IV. True 2K WHHAAAAA!
4k rolling shutter is quite bad on mark IV so I could care less about that in RAW.

Camera-specific Development / Re: Canon 5D Mark IV

So I was doing some thinking. I apologize if this was covered. If or when the ML makes its way to the 5D IV, I was wondering what would the RAW Video/live view capabilities would even be. 4K would be tricky in RAW since I read the CF card slot are still limited. Not sure if this also applies to the SD card slot.

I, personally would be more interested in the full frame capabilities in RAW@ 24fps

Now we know the resolution of the 5DIII Sensor is 5760 / 3x3 Pixel bin brings us to 1920 right? (maybe I am wrong)
With that same math the 5Div 6720 / 3x3 bin would be 2240. This makes me much more excited if this is possible. With compression, in theory, this should rec just fine to the CF card @ 24fps

However, I read (not sure true) the 5D iv does an 4x4 binning during full frame live view. This would be most disappointing bringing our numbers down to 1680 which sadly sounds like a canon move.
On the flip side, since live view understanding seems to be improving quite nicely thanks to ML maybe... just maybe (wishes don't do dishes) ML can force the 3x3 bin and the 5D IV will have a decent 2k RAW 24fps mode.
Canon, no doubt "could" make this happen no problem especially with the new Canon Cinema RAW LITE on there C200.
IMO canon is super dumb for not having done something like RAW 1920 mode on the Mark IV. However I think ML will most likely be able to take the glory here once again. So we can thank Canon for dropping the innovation ball I guess. Just my thoughts.

@eddytkirk Here is a quick intro to rec 3k on 5d3

UPDATE! This should work with latest build on 6/2/2017
Read in the description for processing tips.
UPDATE! By default, the preview setting is set to auto. when it is set to auto, the preview option is hidden in the advanced menu of the RAW REC/MLV_Lite module. Auto preview should work as well.

Magic Lantern 3072 2.35:1 12 bit Lossless RAW Recording from the CROP_REC_4K build from 4-29-2017
Once you have ML installed and the correct build on your SD card, this video should help you set up your 5DIII to record 3K almost continuously depending on the scene. Remember ML on SD and Rec to CF.
Remember this build is experimental and not for those that are new to ML. Try at your own risk.
If you have not found a quick way to process your MLVs here is something quick and simple that I recommend:
1) download RAWFlow from here: magiclantern.fm/forum/index.php
2.) download latest MLV_DUMP here: builds.magiclantern.fm/experiments.html
on this page scroll down to the 4k RAW video recording. In that section you should find the Mac or windows version of MLV_DUMP
3.) Unzip and open up RawFlow and delete the MLV_Dump that's in that folder and replace it with newest version of MLV_Dump you just downloaded.
4.) transfer you MLVs from your card into a new folder on you computer.
5) Have the RawFlow folder open then highlight your MLVs and drag and drop them right on the RawFlow app inside that folder.
6) it might ask you for permission to continue. Say yes and it should bring up the command window and start converting to DNGs and placing them in separate folders by clip. RawFlow will place your DNGs in the same folder as the MLVs.

awesome shots! Nice color too. Did you use 14bit lossless or 12bit lossless RAW?
#32
I should probably update the tutorial. I would say try the newest build but make sure you use the newest MLV_Dump too.
#33
@MartijnR the new 4k crop rec mod is way nicer. Your crop area will be centered, and you can't get better preview options. It might be a little different to use though. Also it is 1:1 resolution like before. Your crop factor depends on the mode/resolution you choose.

Sound is good.... But understanding live view and compression are probably more important I think.
#35
AWESOME!

Looks like it might do proxy too. Very nice camera. But it's a fairly heavy price tag even on body only but I feel like I would invest in this VS BMC I think.
#37
Sick!!!! @pjs9505! Are you on 1.2.3 canon firmware?

@whysodifficult @rob_6
This video is not for those new to ML. Try this at your own risk. I am not responsible for any damage this video may bring if your camera explodes or bricks. Magic Lantern is not responsible either. It will probably just brick not explode though.

@whysodifficult I am currently making a video tutorial for 3k if you can give me to the end of the day

You have misunderstood me. I was not saying upgrading to 5Div, I was saying upgrading the 5Div to c-log.
I agree, there are a lot of improvements to the 5d iv especially for photo. I know, I own both Cameras and I know how to use them. But I tell you what, I would sacrifice the dual pixel and wifi gps functions for a professional 10bit codec. For some rediculous reason canon is promoting post color grading with c-log on 8bit codecs. I'm sorry this is just silly at this point. And the rolling shutter of the 4k plus the crop is really not good.
What they should have done was:
1 Super 35mm 1.3x crop 4k 10bit  422
2 And full frame 1920 10bit 422 (not h.264 420 8bit)
3 less rolling shutter.
Personally I would trade video autofocus, wifi, touchscreen and GPS for the features mentioned above.
I actually emailed Canon nicely mentioning my concerns and they told me I should take a look at the 11,000 c300 ii
I didn't tell them this but I said to myself, no thanks I'll just use 5diii with ML RAW if I want to color grade.
Im not saying the 5Div is bad. All I am saying is, personality it let me down. This is not the same 5D that spearheaded the DSLR video revolution.

@pc_bel, @goldenchild9to5:

Have a look at the preview options; the help text has some hints for your use cases (also discussed earlier in this thread).
@a1ex this feature changed everything! So awesome!

Oh I didn't realize you were using 2.66:1 ratio @giarcpnw
And you mean 12bit lossless right?
Also did you hit the zoom button before recording?

If you are in 12bit  lossless mode Try to ETTR really branchy tree tops with no highlight clipping on an over cast day and I bet your data rate will skyrocket with those settings. It did for me anyway.
#43
I'm not sure these are accurate rec times mentioned above. Possibly I guess but as far as my testing has shown, 3072 2.35:1 23.976fps override on the 5x mode in the crop rec menu @12bit lossless are continuous. Even with these settings there could be scenes that can spike the data rate so that it is not continuous. Above that resolution, I don't THINK you will see continuous. Remember, if you are using the 5x option under crop rec menu, you have to hit the zoom button to actually rec the resolution. If you don't it will just rec 1920. I'm thinking maybe that's where some confusion can happen. If your not zoomed in the 5x option in the crop mod you will not be recording higher then 1920 resolution. Also if you are using the 5x mode you will need to enable fps override since canon live view defaults to 30fps when zoomed in.

I LOVE mlv lite sooooo much! It's perfect. Sound does not matter to me. Just use a slate and a zoom and you'll be found. Much more like film!
#46
@a1ex the change log for 29th build looks very nice!
#47
@beauchampy No shutter actuations and a slightly nicer workflow IMO. The only issue would be battery life for really long lapses. The Mark iv shuts off the LCD.  But for 1fps or maybe .5 fps it would be awesome. Havent tried it yet.
#48
So I decided to test the 5k mode at 6fps 10bit (not lossless) 2.35:1 and ..... Continuous. This is going to be wild for timelapsing!

Woooooooowwwww!!!!!!!!!!!
This is awesome!!!!!!!

@DeafEyeJedi
sorry to double post but it appears that even 3072 x 1308 12bit lossless 23.976 fps ISO 100 under 5x zoom can cause a spike in data rate. Like I think it said 117 MB/s
@A1ex told me that if you try hard enough you can find a scene that can do this. It appears that it's not just high iso that can cause a data rate spike. Even at iso 100  12bit with a brightly exposed detailed scene that data rate can shoot through the roof. I assume if the details are bright enough to stay out of compression then this can happen. That's my guess anyway. I was able to get the scene back to 90MBs by using 11-8 bit at 3008x1280 here is the DNG that went off the charts.
https://www.dropbox.com/sh/8lmopv8z7p2i91f/AAA4saYTmLE7rFQ3t7nSUBCaa?dl=0

1920x1080 14bit lossless 24p was still okay. Not even close to danger zone.

EDIT!!!!!!! I actually tried to rec this scene at 1920x1080 14bit lossless 24p even tho MB/s was good but it gave me an ML assert
ML ASSERT:
0
at mlv_lite.c:2344 (compress_task), task compress_task
lv:1 mode:3

Then I notice that the compression ration was at 106% or something like that. @a1ex I found the scene you were talking about!
