Raw Video Postprocessing / Re: The CinemaDNG Discussion
December 20, 2013, 09:20:53 PM
Interesting.... i was stumbling too upon the camconst.json and the researchs of the RT community just today.
But in purpose of finding a solution for the pink highlights in dcraw/UFRAW.
=> http://www.magiclantern.fm/forum/index.php?topic=5197

As i don't have PremierePro, i wasn't aware that the pink cast problem could have the same origins as the dcraw case.
Maybe the new raw engine of Premiere is basing upon dcraw?  ;D

Edit: I just remembered seeing your name on the RT issue board.  :)

General Chat / Re: UFRAW bug fix for overexposed channels

Thank you a1ex for compiling your patches for Windows!

Convert to Adobe DNG before loading into ufraw (wrong white level in the CR2).

Wow.... this solved my pink highlight issue!!  :o

Is it UFRAW messing up with White levels or is that a Canon bug?

I read about UFRAW/ dcraw having troubles with pink highlights in Canon-raws.
But I couldn't imagine ADOBE fixing that problem. LOL

1) without the patch, color profile disabled (highlights ok, colors a little faded)

While trying to fix the pink highlights (esp. with Sunset scenes like Audionuts D46A9441.CR2) in UFRAW i came across the solution to disable color profile by T&E.
But if i look real close i still can see some artifacts or banding. Along with causing faded colors it's no proper solution to the problem.

As compiling ufraw for Windows is way beyond my skills, i couldn't test your patches.
So I would really appreciate if you submitted your patches to the tracker.  :)

Share Your Videos / Re: Mountains of Valais - Auto ETTR

Wow...fantastisch....simply amazing Christian!

Imagining the strains you have gone through (i guess it was way harder than i could ever imagine) makes this project even more amazing.
Let alone the endurance needed to finish the postproduction.

i have 2 questions regarding your post-workflow with LRTimelpase:
- how did you combine ML-deflicker with LRTimelpase?
- why did you use AutoETTR rather than the EV-step method G.Wegener of LRT is proposing for the Holy Grails?

many thanks!

Did you try to run the command prompt out of the path "D:\projects\cam stuff\automatic color grading script\" instead out of "c:\user\vasilis"?
i just tried your way and i get the same error (upper window)
But "shift+rightclick" works with me (lower window)

sorry for short explenation but i'm in a hurry.

#57
Well this looks worser than i thought.  :(

According to my experience (infact it's just guessing) i would use a short path without "blanks". Like 'd:/expotest'.

sorry thats all i can do.

I don't know what i'm doing wrong but it doesn't work for me. It creates the jpg and the tmp folders but nothing else. I have followed the steps, i did tha PATH work etc, but nothing! (Win7 - 64bit)

Plz post the output message of the cmd-window or the dev.log, so other user might have a clue what's going wrong.

If you run uniform_exposure.py from inside the command prompt, the window will stay open.
Little user hint: http://www.tech-recipes.com/rx/232/right-click-to-open-a-command-prompt/

At least that helped me to get the app running  :)

Lol what?
I gave an answer although you asked Andy600 and not me! So i felt like being impolite.

On Topic: What kind of picturestyle are you aiming for?

Noooo i'm not imposing on you Lenny nooo!  ;D

Since i'm eagerly watching this thread, here are some links:

Btw. what software are you using for video PP?
#62
If memory serves me right, you have to enable "module loading" somewhere in that built before you cloud activate the modules.
Better try a recent nightly build for the 550D, the menu-layout is more straightahead.

General Help Q&A / Re: picture profiles
November 19, 2013, 10:42:41 PM
i might be wrong, but from my understanding of picturestyles I'd say:
In-Camera adjustments ( saturation etc.) don't affect the picturestyle itself

The userdef style is derrived from a default picturestyle setting.

So your userdef neutral is a neutral neutral.  ;D

You are wrong: It's all about the man behind the cam and in front of the computer!  :D

This is one of a few videos i watched here without thinking about noise, whitebalance, blown highlights etc.,
just captivated by watching the content.
Really excellent work.....Voll krass Alder!

Really nice images. I think the subtle HDR look strengthen the autumn mood of the pictures.
The pictures inspired me to use DualISO instead of HDR for my next panorama shooting. Thx

For the Panorama stitching i might recommend Hugin: http://hugin.sourceforge.net/
It's a software the gives the user much control over the stitching process, f. e. it's possible to mask out objects.
It takes a while to get into the possibilites of the programm, but it's really worth it.  :)

Doing panorama photography i really learned a lot from this tutorial esp. with moving objects:

What's not:
- I've removed the denoising option for now, because DxO puts it to shame. ...
Quote from: tron on November 05, 2013, 03:56:53 AM
@alex: Don't be hard on yourself regarding denoise. You are doing SUPERB WORK!

Plus, I read that DXO works on .CR2 files not DNG. So if that is the case denoise option is helpful ANYWAY!
NOW, imagine if only cr2hdr could produce a .CR2 as output! That could be processed with DXO PRIME.
OK that is a crazy scenario  ;D

Wondering the same... I just downloade a trial version of DxO Optics 9 and it can't read Dual-ISO or RAW DNGs.

Are you doing the denoising on tiff/jpg in DxO?

My guess is that your shuttertime collided with the interval, so etttr-and deflicker-modules have no time to adjust exposure:

QuoteNOTE:  If you set your intervalometer at 30 seconds and your slowest shutter speed at 30 sec, you will have problems.  Set the intervalometer at least = Slowest Shutter speed plus the review image setting, in Canon Menu, plus 3 more seconds.

I guess your timelapse turns out brighter than the original exposure was due to the ML-deflicker.
So the shuttertime could be over the critical 10 seconds (with interval 15").

Timelapse Postprocessing / Re: XMP vs UFR
October 30, 2013, 01:35:47 PM
I voted for ufraw but use both.
If its gonna be tricky like day/night timelpases i use XMP/exiftool/Lightroom.
If it should get a simple timelapse with no light canges, i use ufraw coz its way faster then LR.

Thank you a1ex.
Why didn´t you film in RAW?

Because Raw video was invented only 6 months ago and the footage is 2 years old.  ;)

As i use a 550D too i'm looking forward to see your results with the Walimex-Fisheye.

I can't remember the Dual-Iso settings.

All i remember is wondering why my liveview is so bright while shooting a RAW-video of another helicopter.....
...till i found out that by activating modules to shoot RAW i also enabled DUAL-ISO (Of course with some high ISO d'oh).

It was the first Dual-Iso build for 550D by mk1174. And if memory serves me right going to ISO 6400 wasn't possible.

So i guess ISO 100/3200 is right, at least your DNG looks as good as it could get.

Nice tutorial.
Good quality, easy to understand and "eine angenehme Stimme"  :D

After half a year i'm still searching for a raw workflow that fits best to my soft- and hardware.
I use Premiere Elements 10 as NLE and doing colorcorrection with it is nearly impossible.
In contrast using Lightroom for getting the best out of the RAW-files is just so easy.
So creating the proxies with lowres jpegs is a good idea.

I'm really AMaZEd!

Below is a shot i nearly lost hope on, but somehow i knew someday a1ex gonna fix it! :D
The 2nd one from left was developed with ufraw at default. Most right was tonemapped with Photomatix to gain some contrast on the helicopter.
With those on the left i fiddled for hours on any raw developer i could get hands on just to see if there is at least some details in the sky.
I expected there would be just a near white canvas behind a black spot.

How many frames per second is everyone getting out of arc or lightroom. Im only getting about 1 maybe 2 with a quad core 2.4 and 8 gigs of ram. Resolve spits out like 9 or 10 when rendering. I wish there was more option for dng processing on windows.

Lightroom only uses the CPU to render while Resolve uses both CPU and GPU (Cuda engine of the Nvidia)
I once rendered 200 CR2 for a timelapse in Lightroom on a DuoCore 3.3 ghz/ 8 GB ram...
it took about 45 minutes and ate up all my pc resources  :(

Raw Video / Re: Setting up RAW for Canon 550 (T2i)
October 17, 2013, 08:12:44 AM
With the 550D 960x540 is the maximum resolution at 24 fps.

You could uprez your footage by 133% to get 720p.
I know this will reduce the sharpening but the results won't be worser than Canon h264.
And still have the advantage of 14bit over 8 bit and your using the sharper middlepart of your lens anyway  ;)

I have the same problem but luma is shifting even before it opens up in ACR. Here i uploaded 5 DNGs straight from the raw2dng (also same problem when processing in raw2cdng). Due to this almost all of my 50 shots are completely unusable  :( So in my case the problem must be either the camera or raw2dng.

https://mega.co.nz/#!2NE1wTAT!Uiek1yOYeWeusNlzIihTvxRVGpo5JoN03dgLh1S94do

Just a quick guess:
You are using auto-exposure in ACR.
When opening your DNGs in ACR 3 or Rawtherapee i can't see any lumashifting. (Unless my eyes aren't able to see it  :P)

The upper ACR-screenshot is using manual settings, the lower is with "Auto" turned on. In the last case i see a shifting between pic 37 and 38.

I hope this the solution to your problem.
