We just released our Cinelog for DaVinci Resolve LUTs and for the next 24hrs (20.00/8PM GMT) we will include a FREE copy (sent manually via separate email) with any new purchase of a CinelogDCP for ACR. Current customers should already have received an email from us. After this they will revert to separate products and a discounted bundle.

http://www.cinelogdcp.com/cinelog-luts-for-resolve/

hey andy i just bought a davinci cinelog package instead of the acr version and get the davinci version for free; is it possible that you can give me the acr version for free since i bought it in this 24 hrs period? the mail i used to buy it is: [email protected]

i really dont use acr for raw video, but it would be nice to have it for the timelapses i process through acr.

cheers.

@arturochu, you can simply overwrite the actual cr2hdr in the tools folder with the new one, and should work

I dont think that would be enough since there is a new command line for video

Tony, could you please add the dual iso postprocessing update for video in the next version?

Hello.

I shot a lot of footage on my 5DM2 RAW with my Iscorama Anamorphot 1.5x. Mostly (cause of the CF limitation) like 10sec clips.
Next week i have a shooting where i need continuous 1920x1250 on 30fps. (i donĀ“t need all the 1920 - so about 1750 would do it too)
So i will shoot with the 5DM3. Can you give me a hint / links where i can find the best / stable version for the 5DM3 on 30fps with sound (low quality is enough, just for synching), please.
And stability on an external HDMI monitor.
And what Canon firmware do i need on the 5DM3?

Thank you,
ch_d

Really? Common, you can do better than that.  ;)

We can certainly provide a Protune to Cinelog LUT if needed but if you are working with (and are happy with the look of) Cineform Raw there is little point converting to another logspace as Cineform raw has a great quality to filesize ratio and can benefit from future enhancements to debayering and tone curves. The drawback is that it costs more as the Cineform raw codec is not available in the free version.

Converting from one logspace to another is fairly common in YRGB mixed camera workflows and ACES workflows where a cameras IDT is not available. Not all log profiles are the same. They are typically based on Kodak's Cineon Logarithmic conversion but can differ significantly in power. Cinelog for instance, has a slight linear lift at the base of the curve to reduce the affects of sensor noise and is optimized for the dynamic range of the camera. The curve looks significantly different to Protune, as Protune looks significantly different to S-Log, Log-C etc but they all effectively do the same thing.

One of the reasons it took us a while to configure a good solution for DaVinci Resolve was that we had to linearize the mystical BMD Film curve before we could apply Cinelog [1D] and Cinelog Color [3D] in a single LUT. The exact specs of the BMD film curve are not publicly available so we had to shoot a lot of raw test images to discover it's characteristics. Doing this correctly is not straight forward, even when using Lightspace CMS but we can now effectively convert Cinelog (and BMD Film) to any other log format or gamma. We're including a BMD Film to Cinelog to ARRI Log-C LUT in the new release to demonstrate and with the new features coming in Resolve 11 it will be simple (in theory) to match any camera's primaries. I can see Magic Lantern Raw Video benefiting the most from this feature but there is no specific MLV format support mentioned in the release so we are still stuck with a base profile intended for use with BMD Cameras. But - Resolve 11 will be a game changer IMHO :)

This is what the BMD Film to Cinelog Color 2.0 to ARRI Log-C (Sup 3.x ext) LUT looks like:

Nice! So when will it be out in the wild?

It's a pretty good reel though I must say! But seriously, worry less about reel, worry more about networking.

I think you're right about networking, but i'm pretty sure that if you are in this industry people will want to see your reel/work before accepting that cup of coffee.

Yeah. This question has nothing to do with ML.
It seems more like a full of shame shameless plug.
You should go join a forum that discusses cinematography.

I thought i could post this kind of topic in this section of magic lantern forum, take it easy dude.

does any one know why cant i import dng sequences made from raw2cdng in after effects cc? everytime i try to import sequence this thing appears:

https://www.dropbox.com/s/d1yai5hp21vgy9t/Screenshot%202014-04-03%2001.23.22.png

altough i can import individual frames but for some reason if a do that acr does not appear and it looks like this:

https://www.dropbox.com/s/xeik7qyv71tm1c7/Screenshot%202014-04-03%2001.26.03.png

if i open the same dng in photoshop it opens in acr, so i think its probably a bad setting i have in after effect. any help would be much aprecciated.

Hi, i'm using resolve for windows to process my raw files, since i cannot export to apple pro res i like exporting to cineform, but cineform has many options that are not quite self explainable by their title, so my question is, what's the difference beetwen these cineform codecs?:

quicktime cineform RGB 16b
quicktime cineform YUV 10b

AVI cineform YUV 10b
AVI YUV 422 8b
AVI YUV 422 10b
AVI RGB 10b

wich one will mantain the most data of my raw files for further coloring?

thx in advance

Is there any way to have dualISO mlv files "tagged"? When using ETTR connected with dualISO we often get mixed files (normal and dualiso) and the only way to know if the clip is dualISO or not is to open one of the DNGs (which takes a lot of time with dozens of files). If we have DI files with some different name it would be possible to easly filter such a files out of the rest and process them with any dual iso app (or script) right away. Is metadata of MLV module has a "room" for such a tagging?

EDIT: Maybe something like 'custom file prefix' but for movies.

+1

and also can someone fix the flickering problem with dual iso video? i really dig dual iso video but i don't know how to code, i don't think its a big thing to do but i've been wrong in the past.

cheers

General Help Q&A / Chroma Smoothing
April 02, 2014, 07:56:37 AM
can someone explain to me what chroma smoothing option does in raw video postprocessing? whats the diference between none, 2x2, 3x3, etc... does it have the same effect for all the cameras, what's the recommended setting for the 5d mark iii shots?

sorry but i coudn't find any post regarding this concerns, i think the search function in this forum kind of sucks.

cheers.

Hi,
Love the work being done to bring ML to 1.2.3 as well as solving the boot flag issue.
I tried the latest build on March 31 and noticed an odd brightness flickering issue on the LCD.
My LCD brightness is set on manual, I actually felt that the issue was less noticeable when set to Auto brightness.
If you actually go to the Canon menu for the brightness setting, you can see the little white arrow moving all around.

I reverted to the normal firmware by removing the bootflag and the LCD brightness was stable.
I also reverted to the 17 March build and again the LCD brightness was stable. I am now back on the older build because it was annoying me too much.

I wonder if anyone else experienced this issue.
Thanks :)

+1 i also have flicker in my LCD, it's kind of annoying, but i think i can live with it.

thx, will try fix tomorrow.

i dont think i have a different exposure for that scene, i really wanted those white spots blown out cause afterwards my subject come into frame and i wanted him well exposed. I could upload the original mlv file if you want.

any one having this kind of problem?

jpg: https://www.dropbox.com/s/9v0uut63qawuqhb/101.jpg [ edit: http://a1ex.magiclantern.fm/bleeding-edge/raw/101.jpg ]

original dng: https://www.dropbox.com/s/epbkuhd9j13ncgi/101.dng [ edit: http://a1ex.magiclantern.fm/bleeding-edge/raw/101.dng ]

its present in all my takes of that scene, always around the highlights, first i thought it was a debayer problem in resolve, but it happens the same in after effects and in lightrooom.

any ideas on how to fix it?
