Depends on what you're shooting. I mostly shoot weddings, and I find my setup pretty good for my needs: a Rode VMP on camera to capture ambient & reference audio, and the G3 running into the H4N capturing audio for speeches. I mic the groom with the G3 during the ceremony to capture the vows on it.

Very neat menu!

For panoramas you can use ghost image. You will need to take a photo, set it as ghost image, move it so that it covers only half the frame (according to which way you'll be rotating the camera), take another photo, set the new photo as ghost image, etc. While this may sound a bit complex, it's not that hard once you try it. I'll keep this in mind for a tutorial.

Excellent photos! Really love their processing.

While there are certain features which I don't use (such as fisheye, false colours, swap menu-erase, crop factor), I understand that these might be useful to others.

Would it be possible to create a simple config file with all the features so that we can choose which ones to keep/remove (for example histogram=0 would hide histogram while histogram=1 would keep it visible in the menu). That way each user can choose what's best for him.

Completely off topic: I'm struggling with getting decent levels on my audio recordings. Initially I had a Røde Video Mic and bought a Fiio 5 to amplify, but that introduced a lot of noise. Now I've bought a Tascam DR-40, but that still doesn't give a decent audiosignal with the Røde video mic(works fine with the inbuild Tascam mics), so now I'm considering to try with a Røde NTG-2. Do you know anything about this stuff, how to get a decent volume audiosignal recorded on the camera?

Have you tried the Rode VideoMicPro? It has +20db built-in. I have one, and it allows me to turn the down analogue gain on the camera quite a lot (usually near 0).

Hey Schloime,

I will definitely look into it. Apparently QtChange doesn't support command-line interface, so for now I don't think I can integrate it. I will check if there are any other libraries which can do the same thing. So far the closest I found is a modified version of ffmpeg (with added broadcasting features), and according to its documentation, it can write quicktime files containing timecode tracks.

I'll see if I can work something out in the coming days  :)

In the meantime one must just be creative with their recording. I saw one user mention that when recording something long and uninterrupted like debates or presentations, they use an external audio recorder so not have any gaps in the audio recording and fill in the video pause between clips with shots of the audience or other environmental shots.

I think that this is the best way to go for now. I mainly shoot weddings. We find gaps where there isn't anything going on (e.g. someone just finished a speech or party ready from ceremony) and restart there.

i totally looove the first picture. the colors and detail is just perfect for my taste! how many pictures did you take for this one?

Thanks! That's made out of 3 photos at 2 EV increments (-2, 0, 2). Processed in Photmatix but blended in with rest of the photos in PS.

Great work! I'm also a huge fan of ultra-wide shots, so I really enjoyed it :)

It's not the sensor that counts but the processor. It has a Digic V+ processor like the one in the 5D3. Current cameras supporting ML have a Digic IV processor.

General Help Q&A / Re: Reset Button

Yes.

Go into the ML menu (press Erase button), go to Config menu (the one before last, with the CF icon), and select Delete config file. Restart your camera and everything should reset to default.

Thought I'd share with you a small utility for Windows I've written a few months ago in C# in case it's useful to you guys  :)

This is a simple light-weight app which allows you to offload footage from your memory card to your PC. I've found it quite useful as a backup for on-location shooting, and carry it on a small netbook.

Here's a break-down of the features:
- Copy files from memory card to a primary & secondary (optional) location of your choice
- Filter file types to copy (currently MOV, THM, JPG, CR2, WAV, MP3)
- Renaming video files to creation date & time (as a timecode reference)
- Verification of data after copying (by comparing exact file sizes)
- Storing up to 3 profiles (video, audio & photo profiles)
- Quick profile switching using CTRL+1/2/3 keyboard shortcuts
- Copying all Magic Lantern files, only the configuration file (magic.cfg) or the config and hidden.cfg (introduced in ML 2.3) from a pre-defined location
- Generating a shot list based on data obtained from LOG files generated by Magic Lantern, which includes the date & time, lens used, shutter speed, aperture, ISO, focal length, white balance, picture style, FPS, HDR and bitrate
- Exporting shot list to Excel spreadsheet
- Transcoding of HDR videos captured through ML
- Argument passing for running through scripts or batch files

Let me know if you have any ideas for new features or encounter any bugs.

I haven't tried this picture style in particular, however it looks very close to my modified picture style based on neutral (basically neutral with reduced contrast & sharpness, and one less notch of saturation). This has become my preferred picture style after some testing. I also occasionally use Cinestyle (usually for weddings).

Thought I'd share with you some HDR photos I've taken using ML's HDR feature  :)

I believe these were all made out of 3 exposures with 2 EV difference.

I also have some others in my flickr set here:

I have to report what a think is a minor bug I found out that ML Zoom doesn't work with 60fp. (in canon EOS 600d) It starts to glitch and it is annoying although you probably already knew this but i think I should tell you anyway i can't wait for the next version :)

To my knowledge Zoom doesn't work well with 720p. Maybe others can confirm this.

im looking for the ML for the 60d ver 1.1.1 i really need it please

The current version of ML (2.2) supports firmware 1.1.0. The next upcoming release (2.3) will support firmware 1.1.1. If you're on firmware 1.1.1 and want to use ML, you should downgrade to the previous firmware for now.  :)
