Raw Video / Re: Raw video on 5DMK2

Ok, that was exactly what I was looking for. However I had the dream that it was possible to just lower the framerate to say 20 fps to make it possible to set recording resolution to 1920x1080. So I will check if I can go along with the crop mode or if I scale up the 1880 to 1920. Thanks!

Raw Video / Re: Raw video on 5DMK2

Hello nice girls and guys. Wow, what an old thread this has become. I was once among the first who bought a 5D2 and followed the way of ML when the RAW version was released once. Then for years I did not use my 5D2 at all.

Now due to Corona I have to somehow step back into my old business and was wondering, if the RAW filming with the 5D2 has progressed.

Actually I can't find a clear description of what can be achieved with the 5D2 now. So could someone please help me:

I want to shoot 5 or 6 seconds of RAW footage with the highest possible resolution. I don't care so much about fps but resolution is important. So is there a way to make my good old 5D2 record in FullHD at say 20 fps or so? Or even better? I tried, but did not succeed. However I read that ML is capable of that?

Thanks! Martin

Thanks for your reply. I see that this is the bleeding edge of the progress, yes. However I really would like to get the best out of the camera and it is quite hard to find the right download links from the first page, these are only the newest modules, right? Should I install the "official" Magic Lantern and then put these modules on top? All I need is e.g. 4 seconds of recording at Full HD, it would be ok to drop some frames. Could you maybe point me to a complete install of ML where the basic RAW recording capabilities are implemented?

The last one seems to be this from 2018? Is this the basic install and do I have to drop the development modules on top of that? Thanks! Martin

Hello nice people.

I bought one of the first 5D MkII some years ago and tried Magic Lantern too, but then stopped working with my camera. Now due to Corona I need to use my 5D2 for filming again, since I can't afford a new camera.

I would like to do some tabletop clips and want to get the best quality. Now when I installed Magic Lantern some years ago, it was starting to be capable of recording RAW. But now it seems it can do much more?

If you don't mind, could anyone give me a short glance of what happened here? I have to get the camera ready until tomorrow. I installed the newest Magic Lantern but did not succeed to make it film e.g. Full HD RAW at 25 or 30 fps.

I obviously failed to find a complete install for all the new software that is developed here, I don't even understand what is possible. So my question is: Is there a short description here of what can be done with the software and is there a complete stable setup with all modules?

What is filming with crop, what is this 1:1? I saw the videos above, does crop read out e.g. only the upper part of the sensor?

Most important for me: Can someone please help me make at least Full HD filming in RAW work? I have a Komputerbay 1000x 64GB. I don't have the time to read though the 55 pages of this thread until tomorrow, so I'd appreciate help very much! Thanks!

Hello!

My EOS 700D only has RAW+L , thats what I use when shooting RAW and previewing on a computer. I download the JPG to view the shot. Is there any chance to make the camera shoot RAW+S JPG or, at least, convert the large L-JPG in camera to S-JPG by scripting? Automatically after each shot?

I am asking for in camera conversion. Of course I know it's possible to convert after having downloaded the L-JPG to the computer. So I am looking for a fast download, while the time needed for conversion does not matter! Thanks a lot!

Hello,

my EOS 700D can shoot RAW+JPG at once, but the JPG size is stuck to "large", like "RAW+L" . Now I'd like to shoot e.g. "RAW+S3", since I am downloading the JPGSs as preview via USB.

Is there any chance to make the camera shoot RAW+ smalle JPG or is there any chance to resize the image in camera after each shot?

Thanks a lot! Martin

Hello,

is there a way to change the items that ML shows on the display? For example, I don't need the temperature and free space items. I tried to find out how to do that, without success. Any hints?

Thanks a lot!

Martin.

Yes, KomputerBay certainly will stand by their products.  They have a lifetime guarantee on their cards.   :D

But "lifetime" seems to be meant the lifetime of the cards: As long as you can buy them new! It is meant to be the lifetime of the product line, it´s NOT your lifetime :-). At least that is what I read some time ago...

Hmmm, I don´t think I have to go further with testing. The card gives me 65MB/s, that is a little more than my 16GB Sandisk Extreme. I already read about the inconsistencies of KomputerBay regarding speed. However, I will give it another try by changing it to another card.

Hello guys! I got a 1000x 64GB KomputerBay Card and would like to try how it works on my 5D2, I´ll post my results here. But I wonder if there are already some conclusions about the various cards how to format the cards to achieve best speed results. Is there any table for that out, yet? Thanks! Martin

On the other hand, ok, this one is more than double the price, but still quite cheap, and it has all you need to go without having to hassle with housing and so on: Click

Looks really interesting. I think one can´t do too much wrong for the price. I only wonder how bright it is.

The monitor alone goes for 25 bucks, for example here

Booooom! That´s bad news. Ok, so I have to save money for a MK3. Thanks nevertheless for clearing this question.

Quote from: frogcement on September 01, 2013, 12:26:54 AM1%  said just a few posts ago, dual iso works on 5d2 just not in live view, I've personally never used live view for dual iso, I rarely use lv at all.

I am asking for dual iso video! So if dual iso is not available in LV I was only wondering if dual iso video turned out to be impossible at all on the 5D2. I think I am not the only one being very keen on that feature.

Quote from: zuzukasuma on August 31, 2013, 11:55:56 PM... it all started with 5D Mark III & 7D ...

First ML ran on 5D2, I have here ML 0.16 or so... So does it mean dual iso will definitely not be available on the 5D2?  : ???

Yes, I mean dual iso video. I suppose if not available in LV, it´s not available for video, or did I miss something?

Ummm, just can´t resist to ask because I am too curious. What are the reasons this feature can be implemented in XXD and XXXD- cams but not on the 5D2 yet? It all started with a 5D2, not? I hope my good old horse is not too outdated for the newest features coming up here?

Was there a change in the white level point?  Or did the exposure settings change?

If the exposure settings changed, I would say your lens vignettes.

Hmmm, tried again and I cannot reproduce it, strange. I must have done something wrong maybe or maybe you are right, it might really have been the vignetting. However, now the results are absolutely reliable. Sorry for the false negative, nevertheless thanks a lot for your help!

Hello, thanks a lot for you work!

There is one thing I don´t understand: I have been out to test ETTR, I was doing some landscape shots. Now theoretically the brightest areas in a scene should be those that make ETTR calculate the exposure settings, right?

If so, why is it then that ETTR comes to different settings when pointing the camera to a more darker point while the speculars remain in the scene?

I was pointing at the bright clouds, let ETTR do its calculation, then pointing more at the bottom, while still having the clouds in the picture. As far as I understood, ETTR should have led to same settings, but it didn´t. I thought it might have to do with the metering mode, but obviously it doesn´t, no?

Please help me get rid of my confusion! Thanks.

 :'(

I bought a faster CF card some hours ago only to be able to record dual iso raw vids. I really love the style, I like the intro from Lars von Triers film "Melancholia", I would be very happy to be able to record footage that comes close to that.

Well, I suppose I will have to wait...  ::)
#23
Sorry, I suppose this is my mistake, obviously the DUAL ISO is not yet implemented for 5D2, right? Can´t wait to have it on my cam soon.

Same thing here, can´t cr2hdr the dngs extracted from raw vid. Thanks a lot for fixing, Alex!  :-*
