If you can control the height and make it 2080x535 we could just shoot with the anamorphic lens the other way around. Yeah the buffer is the key, the card write speed shouldn't be a problem.

Are you able to do a crop like 1365x803 to write 24fps to a 1000x card? which is 2k 2.55:1 with a 1.5x anamorphic lens.
Toshiba just announced a CF card with 65MB/s minimum write speed http://www.gizmodo.com.au/2013/04/behold-the-fastest-cf-card-ever-made-for-now/

We can't even be certain if it's the final one, so just be patient until Canon publishes it.

It should be, I heard they started installing the new firmware at Canon service centres last week. They did the same thing with the MK2 24p update, I went in to a service centre and got it a week before it was officially released.

720P 422 is doable... the raw size never changes no matter what mode you're in.

How does the 720p resolution compare to H.264 1080p? This could be a great option for anamorphic shooting. We could talk to Dan at Convergent Designs about a recording option for the Odyssey.

Great work guys.

Really liking alpha 3. I've discovered one little bug though. When I make the display text green I get a green cube in the bottom right corner of the display in record mode. It doesn't happen with any other display colour and a reboot doesn't help. I really like the green display, reminds me of an Apple Iic.

The Mayan Calendar has already told us the world is going to end in December, why would I wait till 2013 when Ill be dead.

Hehe, so what does it matter if you shoot it all in 4:2:2? Nobody is going to be around to watch your nicely graded film.

A lot of users are asking about the clean HDMI out. Alex can you clarify whether it is pre or post compression?

So what does everyone think? Can the 5d3 handle higher resolving video in 1920xwhat ever? Just wondering what everyone thinks. ;D

If Alex can get it recording uncompressed 1080p to CF cards then it should resolve more detail. It's the compression and the noise reduction that stunts the MKIII.

- Clean HDMI out with pillarboxes

Are we talking uncompressed 1080p 4:3?

For uncompressed FullHD 422 at 24p, I need "only" 100MB/s. Maybe with a 32MB write buffer it's exactly what I need.

For 2.35:1, I only need 75MB/s.

That's pure theory, so take it with a grain of salt.

Looks like the 1000x cards sustained write is maxing out at 90Mb/s. 2.35:1 uncompressed would be fantastic. A 2.66:1 option would be even better. There's some good deals on 1000x cards http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/buy/Memory-Cards/Ns/p_PRICE_2%7C1/ci/1097/N/4270508873+4294955789

Is there any way to read 2048 pixels off the sensor letterboxed?

The other option would be a 4:3 crop for 2-3k anamorphic shooting.

Restoring ML after format doesn't work, so probably the best way to deploy it will be to load ML on a SD card (which will always be in the camera), and shoot on CF cards. Or viceversa (load ML on a CF cards and shoot on SD cards).

Handling multiple cards requires some major code changes, and I've already had trouble with the most basic file I/O calls ( http://www.magiclantern.fm/forum/index.php?topic=2528.0 ) .

Since my proposal of limiting it to CF cards was not welcome, I think we'll have to wait until these things are solved.

Loading ML from an SD card and recording to a CF card is the best option looking forward. If you can enable MJPEG 422 or push the ALL-I bit-rate then recording to CF cards makes much more sense. Media is cheap as chips these days so it's a very small investment for welcome new features. Spending days or weeks trying to get ML loading from both slots is a big waste of your time given that it doesn't improve on the MKIII's filmmaking ability one bit.

I'm up for being a bit-rate crash test dummy.

There is hope for MJPEG 422 or clean HDMI out though :)

MJPEG 422 would be bloody fantastic in the 150-200Mbit/s range ;D No real need for ProRes then.

I can change max bitrate and quantizers, but that's all.

Excuse my ignorance, what's a quantizer? Pushing the bit-rate should certainly help but VBR was a drama on the MKII. What's the situation with IPB?

CBR ALL-I implementation is a must have feature. The Magic Lantern ISO's sound cool too.
