Try this:
mlv_dump -d -o OUTPUT.MLV M01-2316.MLV

Same stuttering playback in Resolve.

@squig

Can you uncompress that high resolution MLV (mlv_dump -o uncompressed_dst.mlv compressed_src.mlv) and try to play in MLVFS?

Sure, but you're gonna have to give me the exact command. The file name is M01-2316.MLV

Yet another version in first post.

Please report any findings, good or bad.
Happy processing.

Cool, thanks. All good. 4.9Gb uncompressed file is down to 3.1Gb. Original 12Bit compressed MLV is 2.4Gb.

New version uploaded. Compressed mlv_dump version is now merged with cr2hdr.app.

How do I output compressed DNGs?

Have you tried playback, with thouse 7.7MB MLVFS DNGs copied to HDD? If playback is OK than definitely (actually I'm quite confident about it) decompression overhead is an issue.

P.S. What is the CPU load during playback? (is it hackintosh?)

Mac Pro 2010. CPU load with MLVFS running is around 27%. 14-19% with the copied file. The copied file plays back smoothly.

Only problem is, at 7.7MB per frame, I can't get real time 3K playback in Resolve with MLVFS (all options off) even on a relatively fast Mac (3.33 GHz 6 Core 48GB ram SSD/raid GTX-980. Tested on Yosemite Resolve 12.5 and El Capitan Resolve 14.

The same MLV file converted with MLV_dump (6.6MB per frame) plays back smoothly in Resolve.

I don't use a rail plate anymore, it's not necessary for such a light camera body and lens combo. I connect a quick release clamp directly to a railblock: http://www.coollcd.com/super-lightweight-15mm-railblock-v3-942/ http://www.reallyrightstuff.com/B2-40-LR-1-4-20-Lever-release-clamp http://www.reallyrightstuff.com/B5D3A-Plate-for-5D-Mk-III My mattebox has a height adjustment, without one you'll have to get a railblock with a height that suits, or add a suitable spacer or plate. You can get a plate like this: http://www.reallyrightstuff.com/MPR-113-113mm-rail and position it and the clamp at a 90 degree angle to the camera base so you can slide the camera body back to more easily decouple it from the mattebox for quick lens changes. I have another railblock attached to my tripod plate that I just slide on to the rods, and 3 rod clamps attached to handles and a shoulder pad: http://www.coollcd.com/coolblock-90-degree-angle-15mm-rail-block-1104/. You can find cheaper arca swiss clamps and plates on ebay.

Making the user interface app CDNG based works for ML users if it's compatible with MLVFS. I concur with Wayne's suggestion of making the app a FCPX CDNG plugin too. FCPX has a huge user base, many of whom work with proxies of CDNG files. We live in hope that one day Apple will add CDNG support.

Can someone write tutorial about how to rec on these modes?

You're reading it; page 23.

Upscaling in post is a thing. I've shot stuff in 720p crop mode that I'd be comfortable projecting on a 40 foot screen. I can put nitrous in an old Honda, that doesn't make it smart. Reliability trumps  (for want of a better word) a few more pixels every time.

Am i doing something wrong here?

Yeah, you're using MLVFS, it hasn't been updated for these experimental builds. Use this: http://www.magiclantern.fm/forum/index.php?topic=15108.0 or mlv_dump.

Any clue how to run AE CS6 on the latest OS X 10.12.3?

Run the 11.0.4.2 update for AE CS6.

Never knew that, squig. How much faster?

Way faster, depends how many cores you have. Rendering is CPU based in AE. CS6 and CC 2014 make use of virtual cores, so on my mac I allocate 10 cores to rendering. I've allocated 2Gb of ram per core but it doesn't need that much to run at optimum speed. Edit>Purge>All memory and [caps lock] to disable screen refresh speeds up rendering too.

#40
In case anybody didn't already know, multiprocessing was disabled in AE CC 2015. Render times are way faster in CC 2014 and CS6. CS6 is a bit faster than CC 2014 on my 6 core Mac Pro. Installers are still available through creative cloud.

Apr06 3104x1298 1600 ISO 93.4MB/s ~57%
5.26Gb
5.78Gb
Restarted
8.15Gb
25.06Gb (I got bored and stopped recording)

I was going do a comparison with Apr04 but the stack error appeared (for the 1st time) when I loaded the modules so I chickened out.

Can't reproduce.

Canon's focus box appears for 1-2 seconds when starting recording, then again when stopping. No BUSY message (I was getting it with previous builds). Menu works fine, both before and after. Tried 3K 24p and 1080p45, starting from ML defaults. Also tried frozen LV.

Things started to get a bit screwy yesterday after I put ML on an SD card. I'm thinking doing the install with an experimental build may not have been a great idea. I'll do it over with a nightly.

EDIT: It was sticky half shutter. All good now.

?!

After recording, I have to restart to get back into the ML menu.

Are you getting the Canon spotmeter appearing during recording? Busy's still showing too.
#45
Getting back into the ML menu is quite tricky on the Apr04 build.
#46
I got that overlay when I messed with the 1920 tall positioning on the 1st or 2nd build.

I shot standard 1080p raw vs 2.8K raw at the same ISO and aperture, taking a few steps to get close to the same framing; the 1:1 2.8K crop appears to be about half a stop brighter than the 3x3 binned 1080p. Somebody else might wanna test that to confirm.
#47
OK cool, I'll give it a shot.

Seeing as we're all madly trying to squeeze every last MB out of the oldfella to get closer to 4K, would it be possible to add card spanning to these experimental builds?
#48
Are you guys running ML off an SD card?

The best I can do @ 100 ISO is 3.3K 2.39:1. ML is on the CF card.

Hey guys,
I have looked everywhere and cannot find any answers :-)

You didn't look hard enough.

Quote from: Mitchell3557 on April 03, 2017, 01:27:26 PM

With the newest firmware. I installed it and am wondering if it allows to shoot in 4k with compression?

Can you film 4k without the need to shoot RAW?

You can't shoot more than a few frames in 4K with an experimental build.
