look this is what i got:

https://vimeo.com/89151079

https://vimeo.com/89151097

both rendered through resolve, do you think flickering is because of the amount of highlight recovery i made in resolve?

cheers

I see the flicker.. it's small.. I have no idea really. The videos look damn great that for sure! ;)

Hey I know it's a super duplicated old question... but dual iso video on the 7D is impossible? Why photo and not video?

I made some tests and dualISO works completely fine :) Thanks Tony for implementing this :) Flickering is the matter of further processing (shadow/highlight recovery) and has nothing to do with "unpacking" and cr2hdr.
Tony, do you think it would be possible that your app could recognize dualiso files among dozens of normal MLVs? That would be the huge time saver as well.
Cheers

I'm trying to figure out a way to automatically detect it.. but for now not too sure. Will keep you posted!

Tony,

go for the 64gig 1000x. They are faster than the 128gig 1050X.

The 128 1050x could be useful when just using 1x mode and getting longer record times at 1729x972 but not so when going for the higher resolutions in crop mode and higher framerates at 50 and 60p.

Nice, thanks for the info! :)

I like the 64gigs simply because you will lose less data if they die.

Wow... what an answer! Anyway how often did that happen? I read a couple of cases long ago.. with faulty ML builds of that day...

i just processed two dual iso clips, both of them had flicker, one more than the other but noticable in both of them, not acceptable for pro work, bummer, is there some parameter i can change in order to eliminate flicker?

thx in advance

cheers!

currently uploading both, i'll post them as soon as they're up

Mmmm I have no idea about that.. what the program does is execute cr2hdr with all the default settings.. maybe something to look up in the dual iso thread.. I have no idea about that.. I have a 7D so no dual iso video... I have one clip of a 5D3 that I did the test on.. 116 frames and I didnt processed it completely hehe, so I don't know about the flicker.

The other settings you have basically start lowering the quality, like the interpolation, process in full res.. so I don't know about the flicker really...

Ok will look into it.. strange is not happening to me.

yup.. i just ignore it now =(

Wow.. really? Weird.. I assume it gives the problem whenever you click a file in the list and tries to load the thumbnail right?

Hey one 'old' question... are the KB 128gb 1000x still giving performance problems or the batches are coming ok now? Are 64gb still better? I may be purchasing cards soon so I'd like to know what to do. Thanks!

1.9 works good Tony.

Its just that it looks for FORMAT.dll all the time, I already downloaded previously from its site and upon first run I pointed the app to the tools folder. Did I do that right? How can I fix this?

Format.dll? I think that's irfan view problem.. did it work before for you? Did you point to the original irfan view folder? Anyway in next release will abandon irfan view as it is really unconfortable to do that!

Anyone else with this problem?

I would like to ask about 'custom file prefix' option in dualISO module. It seems that this works only with cr2 for now (and its buggy according to description), is it possible to activate it for movies? I tried and it doesnt affect movie file names. With the new apps and scripts it would be very useful to pick up dualiso files easly and fast from couple houndreds mixed MLVs.

Indeed! I just implemented dual iso video support in my converter and that would be neat! Though I think there IS a way of detecting automatically with metadata but that would be MUCH easier..
#88
Hey chmee, strange.. in my converter I also look for like 6 fields of metadata while adding, and it's extremely fast.. maybe it's the method you're looking for the bytes? I always look for an exact byte, I know there's a command that searchs all bytes in the files which takes forever.. anyway, you're an awesome programmer so I might just be talking nonsense.. hehe

looking forward for dual iso support, will try it tomorrow, i'll keep you updated.

Great! Works great I think.. but it's with the default options so as it is max quality it's slow.. adding the options now.. but I don't think anyone will use anything low quality...

v1.9 is out!

- Back to mlv_dump cause of the "mlv2dng stopped working" error. It's a pity cause it was SO fast.
- Interface improvements, with bigger queue and saving space on options.
- DUAL ISO SUPPORT! Though it is sooooooooo slow. But anyway I think that's the way it is. (right click selected items on queue)
- Now you can specify the camera ID for multiple cameras. (right click selected items on queue)
- Chroma smoothing option. Default, none. (may change that?)
- Small bugfixes.

To do, a lot! Including full mlv support, black image substraction, better proxies (using xconvert), dual iso options, full metadata window, more options, delete mlv/dng, import dng folders, proper installer/updater... the list is endless.. hope i can do it all soon! CinemaDNG for me is the most important.. will wait for command line... and I was thinking about Dual ISO and CinemaDNG.. not at all possible right??? That's a complication :/

We're getting there!

For me it didnt work at all.. the frames, fps and camera model tags are wrong. The fps seems like it adds the previous value, so you end up with a huge number in the end. Fps shows 1.00.. maye that's the multiplier factor in mlv metadata? And when I hitted start, "raw2cdng stopped working". Oh also, i dragged and dropped 62 mlv files.. short ones, 9 seconds each.. and it took very long to add. Also, it added some wav files that were hanging around because of mlrawviewer.. it'll be wiser to filter it only for mlv's (and raw's).

But anyway, simple mistakes.. it's looking very promising!!!

Myself I'm coding at the moment.. making an interface update, to include dual iso, black image substraction, full mlv support and much much more.. please tell me you didnt forget about the command line? ;) Cause then it will be perfect!!!

Cheers chmee, thanks so much for the hard work! :)
Tony.

Hope you won't mind Tony. In case you do, just tell me and I will delete it !
I've been using MLC converter to do this clip for french 80s pop icon Desireless (Voyage Voyage amongst others)

https://vimeo.com/87198388

Wow man!!! Incredible video!!!! LOVED it in every way!!! I think it's the best video I've seen with ML so far.. can't believe it's ML really!!! Looks like red or alexa, hehe.. the 5D3 is a beast!!!
Thanks for sharing the previous version.. and thanks so much for all the credits towards these converter!! :)
I'm back from my holiday now and gonna continue development.. gonna change the interface a bit to make new functionalities, should be great!

Cheers!

Anyone can tell me which crop factor are we getting with the 2k crop mode?? (2.20:1)

Hehe.. hot conversation.. it shouldnt be like that. Marsu42, you are right.. and of course you too audionut. But there is a valid point.. we need a proper gui.. because command lines ARE laughable.. well they are very time consuming.. yes!
I know the main os is mac for this business.. but maybe you missed my thread Marsu.. i am developing a converter for windows.. which i am aiming to have everything and be thr ultimate solution.. its looking good.. and also chmee is working on cdngs.. which is thr way to go.. so my guess is in 2 months ML would be close to (or co.pletely) perfect. I am on holiday returning in a few days and will resume development on my app.. which i have good ideas for.
But as audionut said and its very true.. its up to collaboration to make the back end happen.. well it IS happening and soon it will be ready..
But yeah ML will be always for small budget productions who want to get close to really professional cameras.. so i dont mind myself a little dirt on the road :)
Anyway id love to compile my converter for mac.. i just dont know how to and currently have no mac to test it on.. will do soon when i resume work.though..
Anyway hope i brought some peace to both sides hehe..
Cheers!!

This is probably a mlv_dump thing but, wanted to throw it out there anyways. Would it be possible to set start and stop points on the clips and only export that section? Sometimes, there is a lot of extra footage that doesn't need to be converted, would help cut down on converting times.

Actually yes. You can set an in and out frame number. It will be a bit complicqted to make a live thumb preview and sliders. And another thing.. when you are doing a lot of files altogether.. would you use it? Because it should be specific for each file.. and to be honest in a production type of work where you have markers and director indications.. i wouldnt cut anything there..

People! To all who are getting the error "mlv2dng" has stopped working.. its because of mlv2dng. The program is discontinued and has flaws. Will switch back to mlvdump when i get back and upload. Meanwhile if someone has an older version of mlv converter they can upload.. as i dont have them with me now.

Sorry about the unstability.
#97
Hey.. excuse my ignorance.. does this work with dual iso video? If so.. will implement it in MLV Converter! Cheers!
#98
Hey all!!
Greeting from Boracay Island!

Just had time today to find an internet place and read all your messages... I see some progress going on around here.. i like the black frame thing, nice!! Will implement it for sure.. and all the other things. Will switch back to mlv_dump.. will add the chroma smoothing option.. will work on dual iso.. Also the xconvert is a nice find!!

Thinking about the proxies.. do you think I should continue developing them? I dont see much use for them.. really after the cinema dngs from chmee.. this converter i think is useless until he releases a command line.. will stick to regular dngs for now.. and polish the interface, bugfix and add this features for now.. dont know about proxies.. anyone uses them?? They take unbelievably long..

Anyway, cheers to everyone!!!! Thanks for the good wishes!
Tony.

I agree with you, especially if there is a way to access "source settings" in Premiere.
But if you take away the proxie stuff, then we could just use chmee's app? The only stuff that we would want from your app is the DNG compression.

I think that to make your app even better with the future new UI, you should add:
- drag n drop (like in Chmee's app)
- thumbnail view of all the footage in the window (like MLVBrowserSharp)
- abillity to play from the app (MLVViewSharp)
- abillity to do color ACR stuff before exporting the DNG or proxie (dreamy feature :) like in the Mac app Cliphouse http://pomfort.com/cliphouse/

I hope I don't sound too crazy... but like many of us, I hope we'll get there someday! Thanx to all the devs involved ^_^.

I agree. As I said in a post to chmee, is that when he releases command line.. then i'll dedicate on making a nice friendly interface for his software.. for now I think what is valuable about my program is the interface, multi folder support, file naming, metadata view. All of this aspects I wish to polish more and expand.. mlv write support will be added also..

All of the features you listes I intend to do, and are posible within my knowledge (except the color one, hehe.. but you can use profiles of ACR which is basically the same thing..) And hey, you CAN open the clips in mlrawviewer, just click "Open", it's right there..

But of course is part of the reason why I paused the development, that and i am currently working all day.. and now going on a holiday.. I hope when I get back we have command line.. it'll be nice to split the effort also.. one for interface and the other for the magic ;)

Jeez... well maybe it'll be better to be back with mlv_dump... though to be honest I am looking forward to chmee's command line for Cinema DNGs.. the whole dng, proxie, ae, acr workflow is worthless!! We just have to wait a little bit and then I'll redesign the program to work with his... it really is an amazing workflow.
