I have a 600d too and I have been really enjoying the 10/12 bit experimental build for this camera for almost a year now. With a decent SD card I get 1280x544 (2.35:1 aspect ratio) continuous in 10bit RAW. You can push it higher for much shorter recording times and possible skipped frames, but since the 10bit at this resolution is so stable I never do. I like 10bit RAW so much more than the normal compressed h.264 video. You upscale it to 1080 or even 4k for exporting in post and you're good to go.

No issues to report yet, only nearly bricked it by forgetting to wait for the LED light to stop blinking before taking the card or battery out, so don't do that.

I say whatever you choose to do the simplest answer is to either do all RAW or all 8bit in a video. Of course there are pros and cons to both formats, but I cant think of any real benefit to mixing the two in a video.
Raw files will add extra time your editing and workflow, thats usually a big factor in choosing .h264 vs. Raw

Thanks for the all details on that build and workflow, I really appreciate it to help weigh my options. I also spend a lot of time looking through old threads researching. The battle for the flipscreen is a personal one, though all of Zeeks videos make a really strong case for the M. 50mbs is more than double what I currently get so even thats a plus since my focus is on 1080. Cutting down or eliminating aliasing would be awesome though.

Truthfully I am not even interested or need 4k and beyond resolutions, but from what I have heard and possibly have had happen to me, youtube is crippling compression quality on uploads under 4k. If any of thats true I would be interested in the possibility of delivering in 4k, but thats maybe a post for a different thread.

I'm assuming this is the 4k lossless compression build? I would consider getting a cheap 650 or 700d over the M just for the flip screen (I currently have a 600d). Would you recommend the camera and build? Is it true theres no real time liveview while recording in those modes?

Not officially? Just to be clear I am no expert or coder, I just read a lot of old threads. If you're really interested I would comb a ways back through the 10/12 bit thread, because I know it was at least tested on that camera during development.

The camera should theoretically be able to run this build, unless someone knows something I don't know. So the answer is probably somewhere in there.

I have a t3i so its nearly the same camera.  I've been using the experimental 10bit build for a few months and haven't had any major issues. My continuous resolution is 1280 x 544 with the 2:35:1 aspect ratio. I always get a couple pink frames in the first second of recording but no weird noise or green dots or after that. I do try to stay at 100 but Ive gone up to 300-400ISO.

The MLVApp post process is a little annoying having to transcode larger files so if time is a factor its not great, but its nice being able to upscale to 1080 prores files since I use FCPX to edit.

I use RAW because to my untrained eye the 10bit RAW looks more natural than the compressed 8bit h.264. To me even the grain looks more natural, and it doesn't instantly fall apart when color grading. Sometimes the h.264 compression just kills me.

I have no problem spending the extra time and effort to squeeze any extra drop of quality out of a 10 year old camera.

Looks pretty clean to me, especially in the night shots. Almost no noise or artifacts. Did you shoot RAW? Or use noise reduction software?

If you are referring to grain or grainy images on the 650D then no ML will not fix that. It is a grainy camera and bad in low light. Also if you do not want to use RAW you are even more affected by the horrible in camera codec compression.
I like to believe the bitrate multiplier helps at least a little with compression artifacts, but it might just be wishful thinking.

I use RAW to avoid compression and try to stay at 100 ISO whenever possible and you need lots of light. I acknowledge RAW workflow is not for everyone, but the RAW grain feels a bit more natural to me to my eye.

To remove grain you might look into in Neatvideo noise reduction software. A lot of people swear by it.

I ran ML back in the day when my t3i was only last years model and I was too young and dumb to fully appreciate it. After being away from cameras and video for a long time Im back and it was worth the wait. The 10bit RAW experimental build is giving me life and will tie me over until I pull the trigger on a new camera.
