Don't by the 80d, it's not a bad camera, but it's not what you want... And the magic lantern for 80d may be far away. My first camera was 1100d and now I have 80d and a 100d just for magic., I am not very familiar with making professional video, but for the money I spent on my 80d, I am not satisfied. If you can wait some more, good idea to save more money, and point to some better cameras .
Maybe it's a good idea to ask for video  from cameras you are interested, in different situations , and after, on your computer to see how you work with, and how they look., For 80d I can send you some cuts.
If the photo is not the 1st option, I now you have some glass for Canon, why not to consider Sony a7 S I, or Mark II? By the way, I think the mirror less, are more capable in terms of video? They have more Ram memory? Meybe it's just a wrong opinion of mine.

If you want to save the fotos from the dead sd, try the SanDisk recovery program, don't give up if it's not working on first try, maybe using another reader can help. When I bought the card, the recovery program was as gift, with a code on the box, for me it was the solution.

My bad experience with heating, finish with a dead camera. Meybe the cause was my lack in how to work with ML. In that specific case, the resurrection came with changing the card with a new one, with ML on it. The old card was later recognised by the SanDisk recovery program.

Sorry my English Walter. You don't have any heating when recording? I am just curious what size of card, will perform better in same conditions, and if it is a deference between them from heating point of view. Hope it is more understandable what I mean.
Yes Wlad81, I have same problems. This is why I bought battery grip for my SL1, but I don't make a final conclusion if it changes the situation. However a slight improvement it's expected plus the advantage of extra battery.

Crop, it means that just a portion of senzor is used, but the optics and dof remain the same. In crop mode you will see just the had of the "dog", but is the same had, of the whole "dog" this time, you see when shoot full frame of your camera.

@Wlad81 I have a similar situation, but in specific condition and with deferent results. It is not just my observation that MLVApp is not running perfectly on windows (I don't know how it's run on other... ). In my case the app in Windows 10, aply the fix in app, but don't do the same for exported frames , and just for some extensions (I don't try all), for example the 4444 Pro res in Windows 10 export just fine., in Windows 7 on my pc, Pro res 4444 don't export at all, but export other just fine...
So my advice for you, try the app on another pc, you will have a surprise. I am not very good on this, but you can try on your pc to run a Linux in virtual machine, and there run the MLVApp?

I suppose you have windows 7, so you want preview the photos. It's meybe more simple to download a program that can view cr2 on your computer? I now, it's not that easy, but I find one that works very well, and it's cost 15 dollars ?

- yes, enabling/disabling the focus fix in MLV App make the difference, (MLV App come preinstaled with a few focus maps)
   I do some experiments with the dfort maps and without, the results are the same... Just enabling the focus with the 2-nd option (in both situations) , make a better result, but far from perfect.
The good news for me is that exporting prores 4444 (i tried just this) from MLV make the perfect job, so this will be the way.

I want a clean raw, without focus dots, for working in Adobe camera raw from after effects.

The fix focus dots button is on, and the preview in MLV App is clean., is another way for fixing them?

When exporting dng from MLV App 1.8, in After effects, the focus dots are prezent...

I succeed to install July 25 on my SL1. After some manipulations, especially with crope mode, seems to have some crashe logs, 1 freeze and even a error 70. I will explore to be sure in which specific situation it happens.
Can I install another build on another card, and alternate them for a better comparison on the same camera?
