Anyone experience footage is way too dark, pitch black pretty much, when imported into mlvproducer?

Try using MLVApp, available for Windows and MacOS as well, and very well supported, plus latest just came out. Never tried MLVProducer, but last update is from 5/2019.

Not sure I understand the point of anamorphic mode. The resolution does not appear to be any better than 2.5k and in fact seems to look worse.

You get less crop. Almost full sensor width readout, and stellar resolutions when desqueezed.

[EDIT] Tested with 15-45, works very nicely, great build.

I'll test today's build for the Aperture control! Thanks a lot for considering : )))

Also, quite interesting insights from guerchi. I'd say, the long term easiest way would be to introduce a few variables, that store each preset's values.

Lets say, we could have two presets that are customisable, and save themselves, maybe even export a little xml or cfg file for sharing.

Feels doable, but emphasising FEELS!! : ))

Very nice, one thing. It skips wide open (3.5) on the kit 15-45. Maybe not jumping to f22 when reaching wide open? And / Or option to choose stepping (full vs large steps like now)?

Thanks in advance : ))

Could be added. But iso will stay at 100 until aperture is all the way open. So basically when you want to shoot at iso 100 outdoor you'll only be changing aperture when using the existing iso + aperture hot keys.

maybe "Right" button could switch between ISO / Aperture for Up/Down buttons, like it does with Aperture/Shutter (given that Shutter is locked).

I want the full width so the compromise to get 18fps is 2.39:1.
I guess full width could be kept an 24fps if we want to use a more narrow ratio than 2.39:1. Could be interesting.

So we have:

1464x1836 at 24p (64,509,696 pixel / sec)
1736x2180 at 18p (68,120,640 pixel / sec)
1736x2996 at 14p (72,814,784 pixel / sec)

So maybe 24p's width could be pushed till about 2072(?), with height and fps unchanged. And / Or full width and lowered height of course, may be a variable for setting its ratio between limits?

I consider 14fps anamorphic as a photo burst mode or timelapse mode more than a movie mode preset.

It's a very right path though. Many movies use 12 or even 6 fps shots for certain dreamy sequences or plates. I already have one in mind, that needs a low fps plate.

Just out of curiosity, where's the bottleneck in allowing full sensor readout to be recorded with 24fps? I mean, could we achieve a few frames at all (250?) And, can anything be done with the dark liveview while recording 1080p with a bitrate lower than 14bit?

8)

You got some test footage I can see of the 14fps? Doesn't it look choppy at that speed?

Hello, I would like to comment that in the 16 sept. program I don't find the way to configure 1280 x 1890 4k anamorphic 24 fps by default or not, as in the 8 sept. version; only 5k 14 or 12 fps works well by default.
Thank you.

You get 1464 x 1836 10bit 24fps at 2.39:1 ratio. As mentioned by Danne, if you turn off ratio, you get the 14fps mode, with full sensor readout, and 1736 x 1890.

I just kept accidentally taking photos whilst half-pressing shutter and sometimes it would glitch to a half-screen with a white bottom half in halfshutter and then require a camera restart. It feels much better now.

Pressing MENU twice tends to help with that. I love your request. Ultimately, it would be nice to be able to assign all buttons custom.

Hi!

Just tested Sept 8th build briefly. All presets record corruption free out of the box. I even got 256 frames of 4K Ana in 14bit before it stopped. 10bit is Continuous.
5K Ana is also corruption free, but you are right to suggest using 4K Ana preset.

Sticky zoom works well, just one needs to press it long enough to stick : ) 200ms?

playback mostly works, but sometimes it stays on a black screen, while playing in the background, like mentioned earlier. Upon exiting playback with half shutter press, sometimes I get 1/3 preview, with bottom 2/3 of the LV remaining white. Texts on the bottom are rendered. Half Shutter press resolves it.

Thank you for your hard work once again.

lol back : )

I usually have good insights, but am fairly stupid in programming. I'm checking sources in my free time, but quite hard to digest without proper programming background. : ) Till I do, I highly appreciate every little improvement, wether it is important for me or not, and humbly accept all changes basically, while I don't want to upset anyone with these suggestions.

Thank you, that's what I do, just thought, maybe worthy to suggest to default these options, if the aim is to make the presets work as good as possible.

Nice release, I'm actually waiting each day's upload more then the next season of Rick and Morty : DD

Hi!

Testing Sept05 build, works very well so far. Playback sometimes gives black screen, not a big concern.

Just a suggestion, could the wheel function be switched and locked by default to Aperture? Shutter lock is already quite neat.

5K ANA gives pink frames when used with "set to 25fps" ON, also not a concern, quite edge case, may be worthy to include force 25fps off in the preset.

Maybe HDMI out could be detected, and be forced to use RealTime preview in 4K Ana, or worked out, why Framing preview gives black output there. If there's anything I can do to help debug, let me know. (Even a release with force logging what you need for it ?)

Thank you a million times

Ok, this is great : )

Sept 04 build.

Still with External monitor, with Preview set to Frozen LV, 4K Anamorphic Rewired works very good. Preview is still cropped, like mentioned earlier, but live, and gives no corrupt frame (yet). Playback works as well.

All bit modes work, only thing is 12, and 10 bits give quite dark preview, with greenish tint.

I'd say its cropped, and looks stretched too. I've redone, and reuploaded in a bit better quality:

Pause for preview frame at 0:11
Pause for playback frame at 0:50

Hope its more recognizable. Had to switch back to 1080p rewire to have playback working as well, but you know : )

Could you do a screenrecording of what your monitor gives when using it with 4k anamorphic modes?

Hi!

Did some testing with Sept03 build, however, with a HDMI monitor hooked up.

Default, first start up with 1080p rewired works flawless, records well, no pink frames, etc.

2.5K: preview is live and framing is not correct, (its on the Canon 5x zoom view), ill link images in a bit. Right half of the screen is basically the last refreshed pixel in the middle tiled till the edge if it makes sense.
Recording OK, with whole images, but plenty of pink frames(50-70%), playback works.

4K ANA Rewired: preview is live, and framing is not squeezed (its on the Canon 5x zoom view), Preview is with full images, no bug like 2.5K.
Recording OK, with whole images, but plenty of pink frames (10-20%), playback works, but shows black screen (see the LED blinking, reading accordingly), both on internal and external screen.

I'll test w/o a monitor, just wanted to see how much funcionality has progressed with it since I'm very keen to use only External monitors with it. Love 1080p already, and occasionally do use without to get nice 4, and 2,5K results. Thanks a lot for your hard work, beautiful to see the M becoming a cine camera even with its brutally slow cpu : )

Cheers

Hi!

Just an observation, when using HDMI out, and 4K Anamorphic mode, I get slightly less pink frames, if I just do a clean install, set it to 4K ANA in crop mode, exit ML menu, enter Canon menu, exit, rather then running the cinema script. Just thought, maybe worthy to look at. I'd love to use a field monitor when doing 4k : )))

Hi!

I'm Miklos, from Hungary, and have been following ML development, especially for the Eos M lately. First of all, wanted to thank everyone's contribution, its truly amazing stuff.

I started using a Liliput A5 field monitor, and it works great in MCM Rewire mode.
4K Anamorphic is partially working with HDMI out. Liveview is stuck just 1 step before the 7fps correct framing view that works with internal screen, thus it is live, but squeezed.
Records countinously in 1488x1866, but gives half pink frames quite often.

Can I help to investigate what causes it? Can I make a log maybe with adtg_gui with and without the HDMI out enabled to help the process?

I'll do my research about it meanwhile, I'd like to contribute as I can. : )

Cheers
Miki
