Hum...  I am having a similar problem with 2.3  on firmware 1.0.2.  In movie mode, when I hit the trash button to bring up the ML menus, it flickers back and forth with a Canon screen for adjusting picture style.  Makes it hard to adjust any settings.  The flicker didn't exist in ML 2.2 on firmware 1.0.1

I searched the forum for this problem, surely I can't be the only one with flicker problems.

Well, 2.3 seems to fix the F-stop issue I was having with my lens.

And I am loving the vectorscope and the revamped menu system.

Just finished filming two meaty dialogue scenes for my TV demo this Saturday, and I ran into a few problems that may have been addressed before.

1)  I was using an external HDMI monitor to set up the shots, but Focus Peaking didn't work displayed on the monitor.  Instead, the peaking appeared as random red pixel noise in the top third of the frame.  It worked when I unplugged the monitor.  I assume this has to do with the way the buffer outputs focus peaking to the smaller LCD on the T3i, and it doesn't translate to the higher 1080P resolution on the monitor?

2)  The Focus Zoom box works when used on the T3i LCD, but on the monitor it was just filled with black and white diagonal noise.  Is this also a buffer issue?

3)  This may be in the manual, but I can't seem to find it.  How do I reset the F-stop on an EF lens after I have pushed it up to F/22?  It doesn't loop back around to the lowest setting.  I have to break out of video mode and switch to manual to push the F-stop back down.  I wanted to use a lower F-stop than what the "Q" button was automatically choosing as we were using Cokin ND filters to compensate for background lighting.

Other than that I was well pleased with the current 2.2 revision of ML.  I shoot it using the Canon 50mm F/1.4 and the 11-16mm F/2.8.  The footage was beautiful despite the problems we were having with lighting and color balance.  I couldn't have done it with out the spotmeter and live histagram functions.

I only use the Zoom H1 to run a lavalier mic, so I can't tell you the exact gain to use for camera use.  It depends alot on the situation, location, and audio quality, but I usually set gain between 30-50.  You want normal human conversation to work right around the -12 Db mark.

For in camera audio I use the Rode Videomic perched on top of the camera and feeding into the side mic jack on the T3i.  I also use the Azden SGM-2X shotgun mic on a boom recording into the TASCAM DR-40.  For room tone, I use the older Zoom H2 set on a tripod.

Kinda overkill, I know, but it gives me lots of options on audio.

While working on set as a Unit Stills Photographer, my work-horse lens is the 18-135 EF-S on a T2i.  Due to the massive amount of light put up for the main camera, I don't need a really fast lens, so f4 works most of the time.  I also don't have a blimp, so I don't take photos during filming, so I'm not as concerned about USM.  And a film set is a dangerous place for a camera, with lots of ways for your equipment to get damaged.  Why risk an expensive lens?

As for filming I use the Pentax M42 mount 50mm F1.4 and 24mm F2.8 most of the time.  I also use a Mamiya 645 45mm F2.8 occasionally.

I have to agree with b4rt on the lens choices.  I use both Mamiya 645 lenses & Pentax Screw Mount (M42) lenses on film shoots.  Both are cheap manual lenses with great quality for video.  But they can't resolve properly for still photos on a 18 MP sensor, so don't use them for that.

Most lens issues depend of personal taste and the needs of the project.
