Thank you for the feedback.

The camera was Canon EOS 5D Mark III. It is a full-frame camera.

QuoteDude, curb your sharpness and crop-ins...

Did you watch it on Vimeo in 4K resolution but not full screen? Try watching it in full screen.

Most of the footage was shot on 5D3 in RAW quality. Magic Lantern proved to be very stable. In all the years I had only one incident when camera would not boot, but I could fix that by copying ML files from the card to computer, formatting the card and then copying the files back to the card. The card was KomputerBay 256GB 1066x.

Following modules of Magic Lantern were used a lot: dual_iso, ettr, file_man, mlv_play, mlv_rec, silent.

  • Silent module is excellent for time-lapse photography. It saved me dozens of thousands of clicks. I used it in all kind of combinations: silent pictures with intervalometer and bulb timer, silent pictures with intervalometer and dual iso, silent pictures with ettr and so on. The results were always great.
  • Silent pictures did not work with Canon EF 24 mm F/2.8 IS USM lens. They worked with other 5 prime Canon lenses that I own though.
  • RAW video was also used a lot. Never had any dropped frames. Recording was always smooth. RAW videos were then processed with mlv_dump.exe in a command line on Windows. In result I got uncompressed DNG.
  • 3x crop mode for RAW video recording was used quite a bit and proved to be great!
  • Tried recording 60FPS RAW but had to give up because of bad frames. Slower frame rates (below 24FPS) were fine though.

In the end result is on the screen. Big thank you to Magic Lantern community for delivering such a useful piece of code. A production like this could not have happened at the budget level I had if it wasn't for ML. You rock :)

Warning: may produce strong feelings of happiness and excitement for the outdoors!

After 5 years in making I am proudly presenting you the most picturesque time-lapse / drone / hyper lapse - a film to inspire people recreating outdoors, spend time outside and travel.
And don't tell me about coronavirus lockdown - most of the footage was shot around Vancouver! Enjoy!

Trailer is below.

I want to use FPS Override feature to shot some time lapse. I use ML nightly build for 5d3.113 from July 2, 2015.
I need really slow shutter speed at least 2 seconds long, optimal 4 seconds long.
In 'FPS Override' menu I can choose 'Desired FPS' as low as 0.150 (~6.6 seconds exposure) but 'Actual FPS' gets stuck at 0.554 (~1.8 seconds exposure). See image below:

If I start playing with timers I can make it only worse ('Actual FPS' just gets higher, not lower as I need it).
This behavior persists for all 'Desired FPS' below 0.5 (0.15, 0.2, 0.25 ...) - 'Actual FPS' gets stuck at 0.554 and I cannot make it go lower. Once 'Desired FPS' gets to 0.75, 'Actual FPS' also becomes 0.75.

Can someone explain me how can I get 2 or 4 seconds exposure with FPS Override on 5D3?

after some time I decided to install ML on 550D.. only interest at this moment is silnet pictures for timelapse

I have to disappoint you but 550D does not work good with full res silent pictures. The problem is with shutter speed. From below you are limited with 0.5 seconds. Silent pictures can go as fast as 1/10 secs (not my data, based on a1ex feedback), but usable pictures start from 0.5 secs because of the gradient.
From above full res silent pictures can't take exposures longer than 0.8 seconds with your camera.
In the end with 550D  you are limited to exposure interval between 0.5 secs and 0.8 secs.
I recommend you to read the whole thread, especially posts this and this.

Is it possible to specify output directory (not output file) for mlv_dump.exe?
I have gigabytes of mlv files (silent picture time lapse) that I want to export to DNG and then to Lightroom. Currently I first copy files from CF card to hard drive, then export to DNG and then to Lightroom.
It would be nice if I could point mlv_dump.exe to mlv file on CF card and specify output directory for DNG files on my hard drive.
However, I was not able to find such feature in documentation. Does it exist?
I tried something like this:

mlv_dump --dng outdir in.mlv

But it does not work and complains "Error: Failed to open file outdir"

I just spent several days testing full-res silent pictures functionality.
I used ML nightly build for 5d3 from April 28, 2015.
I tested silent pictures with 2 lenses: EF 24mm f/2.8 IS USM and EF 100mm f/2.0 USM.
Setting aperture does not work on 24mm lens. The photo is always taken on the widest aperture which is f/2.8 for this lens.
Here are 2 images.

Left one is a master CR2 image taken with all ML settings off. I had to put markers indicating distance from tripod in my backyard :)
The camera was focused on the nearest marker '.8'. Aperture set to f/22. You see that all the markers are in focus.
Right image is MLV image taken with 'silent.mo' and 'mlv_rec.mo' modules. Silent picture settings were set to 'full-res'. Exposure simulation and exposure override were enabled in ML menu.
Camera was focused on the same point.
However, the picture was taken at f/2.8.
At the same time setting aperture works with EF 100mm f/2.0 USM on the same camera with same ML build.
Summary:
1. Liveview says that picture will be taken at f/22.
2. Exif says that picture was taken at f/22.
3. Actual picture was taken at widest open aperture.
4. Setting aperture does not work on EF 24mm f/2.8 IS USM and works on EF 100mm f/2.0 USM.

QuoteSounds like expo override may not work with STM lenses. Any other STM lens users can confirm?

EF 24mm f/2.8 IS USM is not STM lens, but aperture does not work on it too.
