Thanks all for the nice comments!!

It is zero moon so will be heading out again tomorrow for another shoot.

Envy your location  :) We were clouded out for the past few days. Going to a dark site tomorrow for the showers/milky way and hoping the weather clears. Nice catch!

Hi all.

Haven't posted here for a long time. This video of Milky Way timelapses shot on 60D with ML (still old version which I used for my early ML Raw videos) and also 5D Mk3. The 60D is usually used on my DIY slider with ML intervalometer triggering a Dynamic Perception MX2 and Merlin Head.

My timelapse workflow has always been simply Adobe Bridge with ACR and After Effects.

Lens used: Tokina 11-16mm 2.8 on the 60D and Samyang 14mm 2.8 + Samyang 24mm 1.4 for 5D3.

These shots were done in the span of about 7 months.

Raw Video / Re: Flatz ACR Preset - Magic Lantern RAW

Just downloaded your preset, will try this workflow. Thanks

Edit: Just found out I'm still on Camera Raw 6.7 (CS5.5) on my home PC, not compatible with your preset (Process 2012)-:) Will try it next week at work on CS6.

I've been using raw2dng. Then I open adobe bridge which will give you a preview of all your DNGs (also you'll be able to spot any frames with the pink mess which you can just go and delete the specific DNG file). In bridge, you can edit any frame with Camera Raw which I find nice because most of my first frames in my shots are not ideal for color editing. I then apply my color corrections to the rest of the DNG files. Then I open the DNG sequence right into after effects (make sure your import settings are on the correct frame rate - otherwise play back will be off). It'll bring up Camera Raw again, but I just click done since I've already edited the DNGs.

With this work flow (similar to raw time lapse), I can now go back to bridge and re-edit any DNG files with Camera Raw and go back to AE and click on the imported sequence and click reload footage. It should update any changes you made to the DNGs in Camera Raw.

I have a similar workflow. Also I would save as preset in ACR to make it faster to apply the settings to clips shot in similar environment, or at least a good starting point for other clips.

I also made short video three weeks ago. I like the details and richness of color raw footage delivers.

Very nice! Makes it hard to go back shooting H264!!

The last build is amazing! ML-RAW-60D-hourly_2013-06-20_17-40
On 1472x616 from 335 to 401 frames.
Keep on doing absolutely great job guys!!! :)

Edit: Every frame counts! ;) Gonna do tommorow more tests and put another spreadsheet here.

Using the same build I got 197-199 frames for 1728 x 736 (25fps). Previously as in my two videos it was 178 frames. Yes, every frame counts!

From an Image Quality standpoint, I noticed ants crawling on the stair risers at the 50 second mark.

I'd bet they'd be lost in in-camera H.264 mooshiness; only way to capture such detail would be RAW.

Thanks Haliburton. I happened to have a shot of the same scene on H264, also with the slider. So I made a quick comparison video to highlight the stark difference in clarity of both format. Not that we didn't already know:)

Raw video scaled up to match 1080p and the H264 color adjusted to the raw shot.

Seven seconds was just barely enough to get slider shots, so if the latest news about better buffer optimization is positive, even jib shots in raw will be viable on the 60D! Looking forward to that.

I didn't use ML rack focus. All clips were recorded in manual focus. (my hand)
The focus peaking function is very helpful! :)

Quote from: Haliburton on June 17, 2013, 05:03:18 PM

Yes, I found that focus peaking is superb, making use of my Canon FD manual focus lenses, much more practical.

I forgot about the focus peaking! That's why my focus was off in some of my clips:)

Did another test a couple of days ago at 1792 x 736 using ML-RAW-60D-hourly_2013-06-12_13-50 (haven't tried the latest ones yet). Brought along my slider to see if it is possible to operate (manually) and get usable footage within the time constraint of 7 seconds. Very tight, 1-2 secs used up pressing start and starting the slide. Also a few clips have the magenta flash at the beginning.

This is the outcome:

Here's a test I did last week shooting only at 1792 x 736 (2.35:1) using update #8. I got 178 frames throughout, with liveview on and based my exposure (overexposed mostly) on the histogram.

So from the 1734x976 - 4.4 secs to the 1280x720 - 14seconds I am pretty happy. Only thing I need to do is rethink well every shot, place it, coordinate start/end and just overall pre-plan of everything.

+1 @Burni_

A few weeks ago I told A1ex that I'll wait for the official version of ML raw... Found out I just couldn't resist:) I have been experimenting a bit the past week like others are doing, and despite the workflow and the limitation of the 60D sd, it's worth my time learning to use raw. Huge thanks to A1ex and the ML team.

Yes I heard the cost of shutter replacement is pretty reasonable, however, the thought of not having your go-to camera for a couple of weeks (at least, where I am) during replacement is not really comforting. Of course there will come the day it will have to be replaced, hopefully not too soon:)

The shutter count factor was at first a 'deterent' for me to do more intervalometer timelapse. It was like godsend when fps override was made available on ML. But after using both for a while there are more times the oomph of intervalometer TL is a must have and just close my eyes to shutter count:)

Here is a fps speed test video I did sometime ago and have updated to include a short side-by-side fps/intevalometer comparison. http://vimeo.com/48570899

General Chat / Re: What camera are you running ML on?

Personally besides the 60D (ML) also have a 600D. At work 5DMk2 (Used to be two Mk2 and a 7D - Mk2 stolen in Beijing and 7D in Paris, both at exhibitions)-:)

Run n gun type timelapse of the famed aircraft carrier while it berth off Kota Kinabalu port in Malaysia. Still quite a distance away from land and the crummy weather didn't help. Just one 60D with ML and Manfrotto tripod.

Magic Lantern is just simply very handy.

In my haste chasing locations to get good shooting views, made some mistakes in my first try at manual ramping :(

Saw this yesterday too. Great work he did to do the tutorial. Lots of attention to details.

Here is my test using the script default on a short bramped timelapse at sunset. AE renders of scripted, original and Sapphire plugin flicker remove.

Thanks a1ex for letting me try the script. It works really well. Like others have mentioned here XMP output will be great. I don't have any knowledge of coding or programming so have no idea how easy or difficult it is to implement. No matter what thanks for ML.

Some one asked about fps settings on Vimeo so I posted this. Test shots using the Magic Lantern FPS override feature showing of cloud movement at different speeds plus one night traffic shot. From 3fps down to 0.25fps.

Sorry don't know how to embed vimeo videos here.

Magic Lantern 2.3 60D test clips strung together. Raws and jpgs straight into After Effects. Basic intervalometer, FPS overide and bramping (not easy to get right!).

User Introduction / Hello from Malaysia

I have been lurking around here for some time and decided it is time to post.

I shoot videos and timelapses on the 60D (with ML) and 600D. The Bramping and FPS overide features in ML is so valuable.

Thank you very much for ML.

Hope to post more soon including work I have done using ML.
