Raw Video / Re: 4444 or 422 who decides?
June 18, 2015, 02:49:05 PM
Sorry, meant 422. I need ProRes 422 not ProRes 4444 specifically.

Workflow: Shooting plain RAW not MLV.
Using RAW Magic to convert to DNG
Using Adobe Camera Raw to process i.e. color temp and any other adjustments required

thanks

Raw Video / 4444 or 442 who decides?
June 17, 2015, 10:34:24 PM
Hi folks,

Shooting raw on 5D mk3 processing resulting DNGs in Camera Raw and have made some color corrections which I'm guessing has contributed to some of those 442 clips becoming 4444.
Is there any control over when this happens as I need my clips to be 442 but they also need color correcting i.e. how can I keep 4444 away from the door.

thanks

General Help Q&A / Re: Expo Override ON problemo

Is it designed to work when the camera is in Manual mode. I'm probably doing something wrong but with it ON, I can only go down to a 33rd and up to 4000th of a second not 25th and 8000th.

Further tests reveal the pulse to be inconsistent, when Exp Override is On - it's usually there but often there is no pulse but then kicks in when stopping down until underexposed then opening up again.
It's easier to see it pulsing by looking at Canon's histogram dancing left to right rather than relying on just your eyes and the camera's screen.

Hard to say where the flicker is coming from even though the aperture change kicks it off.

When Expo Override is doing it's thing, what exactly is it bumping up - shutter, aperture or ISO?
Not sure what it does exactly?

Tried it with a Nikon 1.8 manual and that looked fine both ON and OFF.
Tried it with a 70-200 and although slightly subtler than with the 24-70 (perhaps going in close up diffuses the effect) the problem is still there with Exp Override ON but not with it OFF.

How do I get my ML settings off the camera and onto my computer?

General Help Q&A / Expo Override ON problemo
November 22, 2014, 10:57:31 PM
Couldn't work out why there was a pulsating 1 stop exposure from normal to overexposed on non-RAW footage shot on a 5D Mk3, until I narrowed it down to having the Exp Override set to ON causing the histogram to shift from left to right and bac.
Is this normal?

My apologies - found it under Movie > RAW video (MLV) > Use SRM job memory > was ON, now OFF.
Will report back when tested.
#11
What is SRM and where do I find it to disable it? - I have looked but can't find.
#12
Anybody?

R = 1.314
G = 1.000
B = 2.909
#14
White balance was and is on Auto
#15
Tried not running mlv_rec and raw_rec at the same time but makes no difference.
#16
The strange thing now is it alternates between green and normal when viewing on camera.
Initially it was green, then when viewed again, it looked ok - which was good but perplexing.
Then on reboot it went back to green etc.

What's happening?
#17
Can't be the converter at fault as it's green when viewed in the back of the camera.
#19
Switched on Fix black level, converted to DNG using mlvtodng, still no preview just logo, green cast when opening dng in Photoshop or Bridge.
Used ExifTool to correct and file updated but is still green.

Strange thing is in Camera Raw this green image's Temperature is set at the extreme end of the scale at 50000 and Tint is at the other extreme at -150 It looks ok when these are reined in to more normal levels but not sure this is the way to go as these are major adjustments being made just to get the image in the ball park to start with.
#20
Ok. Installed Exif Tool and went throughout the whole process. Terminal says the image file was updated but when opening in photoshop, it still green.
#21
Didn't install exiftool specifically as there was no mention of having to in ultimatemale's vid - I guess I thought it was something that just occurred. ::)
How best to install - is there preferred approach e.g. perl(/) or not etc?

Also noticed a difference between mine and ultimatemale's initial "green" issue in that his preview image of the file was ok and it was only in photoshop that it turned green - whereas with mine, there is no preview, just the DNG logo. The green files became apparent when viewing in Bridge.

It would be profoundly useful to be able to preview them as thumbnails - is this an option?
#22
Got the green cast - tried to fix using the exiftool method as in ultimatemale's video and get this....help!

exiftool -BlackLevel=2048 M29-0418_frame_000000t.dng
