Raw Video / Re: Canon 50D Magic Lantern liveview
January 21, 2015, 08:53:21 PM
No room in the housing. I got a 2500 mAh battery that lasts through 1 dive. I have enabled Magic Lantern to go into sleep mode, however, last dive I did not tickle the camera(press the shutter button for it to wake up) and after 30 mins( I do a lot of shore diving, so it takes me 30+ mins to get out there to the reef), the camera powered off completely. Actually I have to switch on the camera before I place it in the housing because there's no dedicated button on the housing to turn on Liveview.

Anyone else out there know how to program a custom key, C1, C2 or function to turn on LV when I switch on the camera? I've tried to program C1,C2 per the manual but LV constantly switches off before I save the sequence. :( I really don't want to add a button on the housing, it might compromise its integrity.

Here's a video...

Thanks both. Good to know. I'm tempted to go buy a new box at Best Buy, will probably do soon (unfortunately I can't use my work's laptop for this type of processing).

Hi there,

I picked up a used Canon 50D with 7500 actuations in very good shape and installed ML + nightly builds. I also purchased a KomputerBay 32 gig 1000x CF card and I recorded some RAW video(seems to be consistent after a few seconds, at least I get the green camera icon on the LCD (85mb/s or a bit more), which I assume it indicates the card can keep up shooting RAW. I downloaded MlRAWviewer1.2.3 and can see the footage, however, after that I've been having problems converting the .MLV files to .MOV or .AVI. Is there an easy way without dealing with hundreds of .DNG files per clip? I plan on shooting on land and underwater (in a Sea & Sea housing), and while H.264 works fine, I want to know what's the easiest way of processing RAW files.

I am coming from a GoPro 3 black and have shot many underwater videos. Problem is, with GoPro Studio, it's a piece of cake to put together a movie. Is there a utility that can convert directly to .mov files that are readable in GoPro Studio or similar vid editor? Sorry, newbie questions and have read through the forum as well as downloaded RAW magic but could not get it to work. I also tried to download Davinci Resolve 11 Lite(which I think it's free) but got stuck (my computer still runs Vista) Will need a better one down the road (can't use my work's laptop on this either.. so) :)

Any suggestions will much be appreciated.

Thanks.

Raw Video / Canon 50D Magic Lantern liveview
October 07, 2014, 04:07:20 PM
Hi,

Just picked up a used Canon 50D and installed magic lantern (tested it several times, records fine; not RAW, just regular .mov H.264 mode. Plan on installing nightly builds later). I also plan on using it underwater too so was wondering if anyone knows an alternate way (custom function) to turn on Liveview without pressing the print/liveview button on the left side of the camera? My housing (Sea & Sea) does not have a dedicated button for Liveview (it was originally designed for the Canon 40D).

I can always turn on liveview prior to placing the camera in the housing and through the ML liveview settings I can have it shut off after 5-10 seconds to preserve the battery but I don't find this ideal even though it allows me to take stills (pics) as well. I don't want to modify the housing either.

Thanks in advance for any suggestions.

Camera-specific Development / Re: Canon 50D

Hello,
Sorry if this is not related...

Just wanted to ask fellow Canon 50D users or anyone who knows whether you can turn on Liveview through the menu in the camera instead of by pressing the Liveview button on the upper left corner? Reason I'm asking is because I am planning to purchase a used Canon 50D and use it for underwater video with Magic Lantern. I currently have a Sea & Sea MX-40D housing and have used it with a Canon 40D camera for years, however, the 40D does not support video. I have also been told the 50D can fit in the Sea & Sea housing, however, there's no dial/switch on the housing to activate live view. Everything else would work fine by loading Magic Lantern, but I have no idea how I'd be able to activate Liveview while underwater?

Any ideas would greatly be appreciated.
