Start by using your kit lens.  Is 18mm wide enough?  You don't have to pump a baby full of lead to check, use some other object to check framing.

Wide angles have distortion, are you happy to post correct it?

Do you want fixed focal length?  All other things being equal, they probably have less distortion then zoom lenses.  Especially a zoom lens where you are using the wide end of the range.

What's the budget?

You're username is probably a little funny by itself.  But yeah, combined with babies, and shooting them, I guess that might be to much for some.  I'll help you on the basis that mistakes happen, and I won't jump to conclusions that you're a pedobear.

Thanks for replying!

I find it strange/funny that I probably would have gotten the replies I wanted if I had just lied and said I wanted to shoot some kind of POV porn!

As you might have guessed by my question, I have little to no experience with video, while I do use LR and PS for photo touch ups, I would be open to use a software to do post for video as well.. but I just don't know which... maybe Premiere Pro? Do most softwares (like Premiere) have a simple button to fix distortion based on lens profiles (like LR) or does this have to be done manually?

> Do you want fixed focal length?

Prefer zooms but if there is a big difference in quality/distortion, then I can live with a fixed...

> Budget

I usually look at the gear I want to buy and then think how much I have to cut into my lifestyle to fit it in :D so budge is flexible (to a degree... I don't see myself buying Red cameras anytime soon... unless my lottery luck changes!)

Cheers!

It's all said in jest... except for the part about how nobody will answer your question because your user-name is p0rny.

Perhaps you should get one of those little hand tally counters to see how many times you are wrong in a day! ;)

I really hope you are joking... because you do know that I mean "shoot" as with a camera and not a gun, right?

I thought it was funny to start a thread with "shoot babies" but now that we have "wound" and "kill" in the replies it feels like it was not so funny after all :(

My username was actually "P0ny", but my accident I typo'ed a "r" in between and thought it was funny so just let it be.

Also, its my personal opinion that every pedo should be left alone with the family they have hurt for 15 mins before heading to prison - the family should be allowed to have baseball bats.
I also do _not_ support the "prisoners right" for other prisoners to not know he is a pedo.

> I don't think the mothers would be too pleased if you shot their baby.

I only shoot their babies with their parents permission

Good to know nobody jumps to conclusions on this forum... :D

Anyways, have a good day :)

General Help Q&A / Shooting babies!

Hey!
I am mostly a still photographer but once ML for my 70D is out I think I'm going to venture into doing a lot move video... which brings me to my question (as you guys seem to be doing a lot of shooting with your DSLRs) :

Which lens would you recommend I use to shoot really close ( like 2-3 feet / 61-90cm away from the babies) ? Remember that it has to be as distortion free as possible as their mothers wont be to happy if their "precious" all of a sudden started to resemble Smeagol!

I'm using a crop sensor, but if need to feel free to also recommend one for a FF.

Thanks!

Hey everyone!

A (kinda) new 70D user here as well :)
My lenses are a
50 1.4
18-135 (I bought it as a kit)
and a 70-200L IS II
but I see a lot of love in the last pages for the Sigma 18-35!

I'm def gonna check it out, other than the obviously awesome f1.8, how does it stack up to the 18-135? I shoot weddings so I immediately see the use for a good wide angle low light lens for group shots... anybody else doing weddings with this?

My usage with video is pretty limited, can you explain how you did the following 3x lossless zoom from your below quote please?

Dont forget with the 70D in video, you can use the 3X lossless zoon, that makes your 18-35mm, a 54-105mm !!! However you lose the touchscreen follow focus when its on.

I was recently at a concert and even though I had my 70-200 with a 1.4 extender on, I could have done with some lossless zoom love! :D

Cheers!
