Raw Video / Re: 60D RAW video - it's working !!!
February 02, 2015, 03:56:35 PM
Here is a video of me I shot a while back filming Raw on the 60D in 2.39 Aspect Ratio at highest resolution (recording of 5-7 sec per clip) using an older nightly version (cant remember which one. would have to look it up).

Anywho, what do you think :)?

Cheers.

Raw Video / Re: New and Old Banding Issues
July 30, 2014, 02:49:45 PM
Okay, this is weird. I am using the Canon 5D Mark III .123 Nightly Firmware from July 16 and still get slight Banding (both visible on the mlv raw files & after conversion to dngs with "MLVMystic_v0.5". I haven't ticked on the Banding Correction for the Mark III in MLVMystic because it would just generate horribly pixelated/banded footage instead of correcting it.

Any help on how to get rid of the banding when shooting or getting it corrected afterwards? I looked through all other threads but they seem to focus on issues with .raw recording.

Should I rather record .raw files then .mlv files?

I am a little bit confused here. Is it a hardware issue with Canon's 5D which cant be fixed?

So it seems that the Komputerbay 1000x 064 GB is the favourite choice so is it a safe guess that the new and slightly faster 1066X version will do just as well?

Hello my fellow ML Fans,

I have created a small impressions video on a friends photo shoot using the RAW Function of Magic Lantern on my Canon 60D.
Although it had to be blown up slightly to 1080p it still looks very nice and gives a nice organic feel in my opinion.
I will definitely try out more things with this. Any thoughts? I like to hear what you think! Thanks!

Raw Video / Re: Dead pixel help raw video

Never mind! I am sorry.

Apparently the converter tool "raw2cdng" was causing issues with converting. I used MlRawViewer this time and the pixels do not show up anymore. That is quite a relief! I remember actually having to switch to another converting tool at some point and this probably caused the issue. Hope this helps some of you.

In short: See if the problem still occurs when using another converting tool. In some cases it might help.

Hello guys! Instead of starting a new thread I figured it would be best to reanimate this one as it is pretty much about the same topic and even camera I own(60D).

So i was taking my camera out on a very hot Sunday (32°C) and was shooting quite many RAW Footage clips at highest resolution with my 60D.  During the shoot whenever I recorded many clips after another the temperature of my sensor raised up to 70°C which made me worry as it was also highlighted red instead of orange. After checking the footage on my computer i noticed that at some point a green and purple pixel made its way on my images and seem to stay there, also on every further shot from that time on. I should probably add that  I also swapped lenses a lot that day so I thought that maybe its dust on the sensor. But normally dust doesnt make colored pixels right? So at the moment I am kind of ruling out the possibility of a software issue or luckily I am wrong...

Today I also made a test shot to see if it is still there and sadly it is. You can download a test dng here and you will understand what I mean:

A quick preview can be seen here where i marked the dots :

Did I just kill some pixels on my sensor? Or what do you think? Thanks!

Regarding #1:

I just had success with the pink and green pixel issues (sort of). I basically removed all color of pink and green in the HNL/Greyscale Options of the RAW Window. Now those color are dark and grey and work for me. Hope this helps a little bit for everyone else having these issues. This might work for shots where no green/pink is desired or needed but might not be the best solution for every situation.

So it would still be nice to get some tips on both remaining issues 1 and 2 :).

Hey guys, although I have read through the 60D thread and used search function i could not really seem to find a solution to the following 2 problems or maybe I am just stupid :P :

1: Green and Pink Artifacts/ Pixels

even when following the black level threads ( I am not really sure if this really is a black level issue? Maybe?)

So I haven't started using MLV RAW yet, just the standard RAW recoding module to create raw files.

Maybe some of you want to have a look at it:

https://www.dropbox.com/s/8rhzbnuecgd3i7c/bottom_water_green_pink_pixels-artifacts.DNG

At the bottom, when looking at the water you can make out weird green and pink pixels and/or artifacts. I am using mlrawviewer for previewing and "Magic Lantern RAW - 1.2.0" for converting my .raw files to .dng 's.

Another example where it is less noticable is on this example image:

https://www.dropbox.com/s/fspcgc2788ps2dd/cobble_stone_green_pink_pixels-artifacts.DNG

You can make it out when looking closer at the cobble stone on the street.

I also tried other converting tools but it seems that something is wrong with the way the images were taken.

2: Random .raw files are corrupt or broken / cannot be read with converters

The title speaks for itself. Basically, after shooting clips and later on, when viewing them back, a minor random number of shots cannot be opened with converting tools whatsoever. Like they have been corrupted or something. Would ticking the option "warm up card" help? I honestly don't know.

Maybe you can help me, thanks!

Modules Development / Re: MLV PLAY (mlv_play.mo)
June 02, 2014, 11:38:37 AM
I am terribly sorry for being so amazingly stupid but where the heck can i get the mlv_play module to download and put into my ml folder? I tried searching but no candy for me! I have a 60D and want to play back raw files on my camera.  Does this only work with the mlv raw files or does it also play back the standard raw files? Thanks!

Raw Video / Re: 60D RAW video - it's working !!!

Hey guys, just tested the Nightly Build for the 60D with RAW Support for the 1st time and I am amazed! So congrats to the dude(s) who made it happen and for putting so much time and work into it! You are brilliant! Never thought I could be amazed by my little camera again :). Feels so good!

However, there are some things which bug me though (must have already been said 1000x before i guess):

Its kind of a bummer (or a challenge? hmmm) to only get about 5 secs of recording time with 1728x724 (Using a 20mb/s card, that is the max write speed of the camera anyways, right?).

Any chances that at some point the developers of ML might dig even deeper into the mainframe of the camera's functions to maybe add functions like 10 or 12 Bit RAW instead of 14 Bit RAW unless it is deeply baked into the sensors configuration? (less writing speeds, more continuos shooting and maybe even true 1080p?)

Also is there a way to play the .RAW file back on your camera? kind of stupid when you can only check on your pc afterwards but hey I really do not want to complain here, it is kind of like shooting on celluloid again :D so that adds a certain discipline when shooting :).

Any theories on improving the writing speed of the camera or bypassing it? (by adding additional software and gear maybe?)

Again, thank you developers :). Woooow!
