Duplicate Questions / Re: Dumb question but...

You're right, it says it should work with windows 8.  But when the extension ends with win32, you can see that asking for confirmation from users using win8.1 64bit that it works isn't such a bad question.  Notice the title of this thread.  Just asking.  BTW, you seem knowledgeable, what software do you use?  Thanks.

Resolve isn't working btw, it's asking for a license dongle, and I just wanted to try the free version first.

Duplicate Questions / Dumb question but...

What program do you use to view your .RAW files on you computer once you've shot them?  I've already loaded ML on to my CF card and can shoot RAW, but wondered what program used to view the .RAW video once it has been shot?

General Help Q&A / Workflow questions

I'm learning photography and wondering what the best and most current editing suites are for working with RAW video and also photography?  And do most have a preference for Macs or PCs for your workflow?  Thanks.

Raw Video / Re: 7D and the SanDisk 160 Mb/s

I've noticed the warm up period you're describing as well.  It 'warms' up quickly though, and then it becomes a non-issue.   Your camera settings, as you mentioned, are important as well in terms of shooting RAW with ML.  What CF cards do you recommend that work better than the Sandisk extreme pro 160mb/s?

I don't have an NLE.  I'm not sure which one to get for this workflow.  I've considered Sony Vegas, Adobe Premiere, Final Cut Pro, but I'm not sure which one to get?

My guess is that if you're getting pink frames, you've maxed out your cameras CMOS/processing power/buffer for that particular resolution.  It's not the cards fault most likely.  On my 5D Mark III that same card will shoot 1920*1080 RAW with no pink frames.  If I push my Mark II too far in resolution, like 1920x1080, with that same card, I will get those pink frames

Raw Video / 5D Mark II and 5d Mark III Raw
May 12, 2014, 09:16:42 PM
On my 5D mark II I have ML running and the RAW video which I run at 1880x740 on this camera looks great and plays using windows media player.  On my 5D Mark III, I also have ML running and the RAW video looks grainy at any resolution, and is not as sharp or vibrant.  Also, the video from the Mark III won't play in windows media player, unlike the Mark II, it will only play using mlviewerraw.exe.  Both cameras have the latest firmware update from Canon, and both are running the newest versions of ML.

General Help Q&A / Re: Mark III and ML

Great post.  My mark II is stable at 1880x740 70mbit/s.  Seems like from your experience, the mark III is a worthy upgrade.  The color depth really shines on the Mark II.  I hope it transferred over to the Mark III.  Some internet clips for what they're worth, show it looking oversharpened, and a little artificial.  I just wish I could get more for my mark II.  :o

I'm comparing the two for ML.  The faster CF-bus and buffer allows a slightly higher continuous recording resolution.  The AA, and noise are decent improvements.  In reviews, the resolving power in terms of lines of resolution are almost identical though.  I bet the Mark III is a lot better, but everything on the internet is so compressed you'd have to buy one just to find out it seems.

I use the sandisk extreme pro 160mb/s on a Mark II, and it works fine.

I'm not frustrated with the features.  The more settings the better, no offense taken.  I was just trying to use the easiest mode to get it to work, then I thought it couldn't be done.  I'm just glad to learn that you can use af while shooting.

I have AF engaged on the lens, the camera is in the green-auto mode, and I still have to manually focus while shooting.  I'll have to try other settings.  I'm shooting with the LCD active, which is probably the culprit.

General Help Q&A / Mark III and ML
April 28, 2014, 11:15:11 AM
Is the Mark III that much better at shooting video in ML than the mark II?  I realize it shoots at a little higher resolution, has faster AF, and higher ISO.  What am I missing?  Is it $2,000 better?  I'm trying to look for a reason to upgrade.

Okay, ...do you set AF on the lens, camera, or in ML?  I can't seem to get it to autofocus while shooting.

General Help Q&A / Mark II ML questions

While shooting with magic lantern, I understand you can't use autofocus.  However, can you control the aperature, white balance, ISO, etc. while you are shooting, or does it stay fixed?  Also, what mode do you set your camera in while shooting with ML?
