Never mind, I see how to access the utility menu now.  To answer the other question, yes, my path variable does include /usr/local/bin and the executables in /usr/local/bin work just fine.  However, disabling the SIP and moving the executables and lib directory to /usr/bin and then re-enabling the SIP fixed the problem and I am now able to convert dual iso .cr2 files to .dng files.  Thank you for your assistance, I greatly appreciate it!

There is one step missing in the SIP process.  Once I hold down command-R, the computer does not automatically boot into safe mode.  Instead I am given the choice of restore from time machine backup, reinstall OS X, Get help online or Disk Utility.  Which of these should I select?
#3
I think the executable is hard wired to look in the directory "usr/bin" and is not looking in "usr/local/bin", although I could be wrong.
#4
I have visually checked by opening the usr/local/bin directory chain and seeing the executables and manually verified by doing a "which" command in terminal.  Both exiftool and draw are in the directory usr/local/bin.  The lib directory required for exiftool is also in the usr/local/bin directory.  The error message

Input file : B01_4486.CR2
sh: dcraw: command not found sh: exiftool: command not found sh: dcraw: command not found Error: dcraw output is not a valid PGM file Logfile    : B01_4486.txt

THE END

still shows up when I try to drop a .CR2 file in the executable icon.

It seems to me that the code is working fine but does not know which directory to look for the exif and dcraw executables in.  If this is correct shouldn't I just recreate the exact directory it was in before instead of placing it in usr/local/bin?
#6
So I migrated everything from the QuarantineRoot directory to usr/local/bin and it still fails with the same warning.  Do I need to set some path lengths in my .bash_profile or is something else causing the problem?

Post-processing Workflow / Dual ISO with Mac El-Capitan
November 30, 2015, 09:51:05 PM
I have read some previous posts on this topic, but it all seemed like a foreign language to me and I am wondering if anyone can help me.  I had dual ISO processing set up on my computer and then made the mistake of updating to El-Capitan and my batch mode dual iso convertor no longer works.  Whenever I try to drag a folder over the cr2hdr icon I get the message sj: draw: comment not found sh: exiftool: command not found sh draw: command not found Error: draw is not a valid PGM.  it seems to me that the program no longer recognizes the directories where the executables are stored.  So I modified my .bash_profile to show that path length and it still does not recognize where the executable is.  I would have tried to do the same thing with exiftool, but to be honest I used the installer to install that and I am not sure what directory it is in.  Has anybody else been able to solve this problem, and if so can you give me some instructions on how to fix this?

I see, you are absolutely right.  When I adjust the shadows, highlights and curves in LR it comes out at the same dynamic range and color, but with significantly less noise with a 200/3200 setting.  Very nice.

I am using a Canon 6d with the dual iso option.  As a test I turned the light off in the room I am in and kept the light on in the hallway and took a picture through the door.  I took the first picture at iso 200 and the second with the dual iso feature turned on to 200/3200.  The picture came out heavily banded because of how the sensor scans one line at iso 200 and the other at 3200 as I would expect.  I downloaded exiftool and draw along with the cr2hdr.app and dropped the .CR2 file in the window and it successfully converted it to a .dng file.  However, the converted .dng file looks identical in dynamic range to the original shot just taken at iso 200.  I must be missing something, can anyone give me any suggestions.  I would attach the photos as jpegs here to show what I mean, but when I hit the attachments and other options button, it does not lead me to any method of attaching a file.

General Help Q&A / Bulb Ramping with the Canon 6D
May 15, 2014, 03:14:07 AM
I am about to try some methods with Magic Lantern to do the equivalent of Bulb Ramping; however, the current version of ML for the 6D does not seem to have ETTR in the package.  I am going to try to use the linear exposure ramping function to produce a time lapse of the sunset from about an hour before sunset to an hour after sunset.  Does anyone have any recommendations for the ramp rate that might fit this attempt?  Also, it sounds as if ML bases the exposure ramping from a combination of aperture changes and ISO changes.  If I use a lens that has no electrical connection to the camera will it just try to adjust the ISO or will it behave in an unexpected manner?

I am sorry, i meant to type 64 GB, not MB

I have a Canon 6d and have installed and ran Magic Lantern from a 64 GB card.  When everything, I believe is relevant is on the card I have a 524 kB auto exec.bin file, a 131 kB ML-6D113.FIR file and a folder titled ML containing 40.4 GB of files and folders, leaving a mere 18 GB of space to place photos.  Are any of the files I have on my disk not required after I have installed the software, or am I unfortunately left with a  mere 18 GB of free space?

I just got back from a lengthy trip and am finally getting to look into this.  The new auto exec.bin file seems to have fixed the problem; however, out of curiosity, in which header file will I find the BULB_EXPOSURE_CORRECTION term?

I am heading straight from work into a 2 day trip so I may not get to attempt the change or implementation of the autoexec file posted until Saturday.  Also, I have not downloaded the source code to manipulate anything yet, nor am I familiar yet with how it works.  Is BULB_EXPOSURE_CORRECTION a hardcoded variable that needs to be changed and then recompiled as an executable, or is it on a read file that can be changed withouth compiling?  Also, is there a version of the code specific to the 6d?
#15
I have been at work since I sent you the first message this morning so I have not had a chance to manipulate the variable BULB_EXPOSURE_CORRECION, since the camera and my ML files are at home.

It is possible the issue is on my end and not the software, but I am not sure.  I have the mode selector dial set to bulb, in ML the intervalometer is turned off and the bulb is set to a 10 second exposure.  I press the shutter button half way and hold for one second and it takes a single bulb exposure that in this case overexposes by 0.6 seconds, where it only does it by 0.5 seconds when operating with an intervalometer.
#17
When I say intervalometer I mean the combination of bulb exposure and intervalometer.  But the comment still stands, the bulb exposure is set to lets say 18 seconds and I get an 18.5 second exposure, the same thing happens if I set it to 4 seconds, I get a 4.5 second exposure.
#18
The boot up was a success for the 6d; however, the intervalometer seems to consistently overexpose by a half second no matter which settings I choose.

O.K. let me see if I am on the same page.  Initially I installed the 1.1.2 version of firmware and its associated ML software and it did successfully install.  Then I uploaded the 1.1.3 firmware with the commiserate ML files for that version.  You are saying that I need to install the boot flag someplace within that process and do not need macboot to make the card readable, is that correct.  If it is then I need to re-read the documentation to figure out how to do that, although any help would be appreciated.  And yes, I would be happy to use my 6d as an experiment for this new version you are talking about.

Thanks you for your responses and for being patient with me.  However, I do have one more question.  I have made it through the entire process, but need to make my card bootable and am using Macboot to do so, but it is failing every time with the following errors.  Is this something I need to be able to fix or is it a problem with the card requiring a new card?

scripts=false chdkboot=false chdk32boot=false dslrboot=true
Command 'diskutil unmountDisk disk2' = 'Unmount of all volumes on disk2 was successful'
   return code was 0
making DLSR-bootable - format=2
making FAT32 DSLR-bootable
Command 'printf "EOS_DEVELOP" | dd bs=1 count=11 seek=0x47 conv=notrunc of=/dev/disk2s1' = '!Error

dd: /dev/disk2s1: Permission denied'
   return code was 1
Command 'diskutil mountDisk disk2' = 'Volume(s) mounted successfully'
   return code was 0

Thank you, in the list of messages I found one titled link to canon firmware, but it did not have any links to previous or current versions for the 6d, is there someplace specific in that list of messages that i am supposed to search?
#22
Yes, that worked.  However, in following the second set of instructions given to me it listed the need to be running firmware version 1.1.2, where i am using 1.1.3.  On the canon website I can find in the updates for the 6d where I can download 1.1.3 and 1.1.4, but nothing about legacy firmware versions.  Can someone point me to where I can find older firmware versions for the 6d on Canon's web page?
#23
I just realized that the tone of my previous message came out wrong, the decision to try and install it was mine and I will get the problem fixed.
#24
Unfortunately your reply came a bit too late.  Someone sent me info sending me to this link "http://www.magiclantern.fm/forum/index.php?topic=3904.0" and said I could use the .fir file listed in the link titled THIS SPECIAL UPDATER.  Unfortunately not only did it not work, but it turned my 6d into a paper weight and it will not even turn on now.  I think it deleted the firmware and will not even allow my camera to turn on and I will likely have to send it back to get fixed.  If there is anyway a link to the correct .fir file or installation process could be attached to the nightly build link it would be very helpful.
#25
I am trying to download ML for my 6d using software from the nightly build, since I am told that is all that is available for the 6d.  I follow the link to builds.magiclantern.fm/#/ and click the download button.  It downloads a folder titled ML and another file titled auto exec.bin, but there is no fir file.  When I take the files produced in the download and load them onto the root directory, the camera tells me that it is not detecting any firmware to update the camera with, which i suspect is the lack of a .fir file.  I have downloaded the software more than once from the website, but the results are always the same, no .fir file is produced.  Can someone let me know where I am going wrong, I would greatly appreciate it.
