Inspirational video I filmed using Magic Lantern Raw on 5D Mark III
#2
I'm noticing a white balance shift on some of my clips.. I have my white balance set in ACR but after exporting the clips there is some major hue shift in the colors (sky from blue to green) and I'm not too sure why thats happening..
Shooting on a 5DMarkiii on build from march (because the more current builds I've experienced more noise)

Raw Video / More noise than usual? (recent build)
August 21, 2014, 06:55:12 PM
I recently experimented with a few of the new builds and I've noticed some high noise levels even at low ISO's, and even after noise reduction which usually cleans it up super nice. I never noticed noise to be this extreme back on the February build that I was using previously, I'm wondering if anyone has experienced something similar. (Shooting on 5D Mark iii 1.1.3 build)

I fixed the link that wasn't working

Whats up everyone, here's a recent video I put together while flying with @GoldenGateAir over the San Francisco Bay Area.
The whole video was shot using Magic Lantern Raw and I thought some of you might enjoy the aerial shots

Enjoy

Raw Video / Re: Slow-motion on 5DM3

You can record 1920x818 at 48FPS and slow it down to 23.976.. I've done it here -- > https://vimeo.com/87812777

Hey guys,

We've rented a 5D III before to run some tests with Komputerbay 64gb cards.
The ones we bought seemed to be doing well in 1920x818 30p.
However, since we're short on budget, we send the cards back to Amazon.

I've already bought 8 Komputerbay 64gb cards, but have no way to test them until
we're picking up both Mark III's. Which will be next Friday. The shoot is will be Sat-Sun.

1. Are there any reliable tools I can use to test the memory cards (on Mac)?
2. Magic Lantern automatically stops a recording when frames are dropped?
3. We're renting a 7" HDMI Monitor, is Magic Lantern compatible?
4. Is RAWtoDNG sufficient on set, or should we just dump the .RAW files directly?

Is there anything else I should be weary of when using Magic Lantern on set?

Thanks,
Michael

I do know that the Komputerbay cards are supposed to be the least reliable with magic lantern. But if you have 8 cards, you might be alright.
1. I'm not too sure
2. I usually don't experience dropped frames, but if I did, I wouldn't want to continue recording.
3. To my knowledge, the only chance you have at using a monitor is having a Mark 3 with 1.2.3 firmware, and magic lantern 1.2.3. Not positive.
4. I personally would just dump footage on set, and worry about raw2dng later while you're not on the field.

Looks like this is heading in a great direction!
I can't wait to see the day where we can get stable use from a 5D Mark III & wireless follow focus/external monitors/movi...
Productions would be epic!

Emmmm something is not adding up? What card are you using? And are you cropping?

1000x lexar 32
Used 720x60 canon settings. Then with ML settings I shot 48fps override and used 2:3 aspect for 1920x515 then stretched to 1920x818 in post. Slowed down to 23.976. No cropping I believe.. Bam

Looks great!

Would you mind sharing your workflow?

Thanks!

Converted MLV files to DNG w/ MLV2DNG. Brought all clips through After Effects for adjustments, and then put into FCPX timeline for final export.

After a complete reinstall of CS6 I was able to get everything running smooth again.. Won't be trying to update ACR for a while now! Thanks for all the help Andy
#12
I'm doing just that, wish me luck. And I appreciate your help, thanks.
#13
Ok Andy I was able to find that plugin and erase it, but now upon installing the older version I'm getting an error (Installation failed. Error Code: U44M2P7).
Anywhere I can find that old camera 7.1 plugin and just drop it in that file to replace the newer one?

Thanks a bunch

I'm on a Mac, and I have no clue how to uninstall just ACR. I've considered uninstalling and reinstalling everything but with all the plugins I have in photoshop and after effects it would be a hassle.. And what if after I was still stuck with 8.4? Worries me a bit
#15
Thanks Andy, I was able to find an older ACR but upon installing and opening ACR, it still says its using 8.4 beta up top, how can I get around this? Thanks
#16
VisionLOG Still doesn't show up after selecting either of those.
#17
Has anyone had any success getting VISIONLOG to work on ACR 8.4? Even with the folders in the correct places, I cannot get the VISIONLOG to show up or work inside 8.4 anywhere.. If it's not possible, does anyone have suggestions on how to get back to ACR 7 without having to completely uninstall-reinstall the cs6 series? This would be a big help, thanks.

@WeekendWarrior It probably doesn't affect the flicker caused by using shadow/highlight recovery, only the grain effect of ACR. The recovery is done individually in each image to "optimize" the result, so that will probably remain unchanged with this update. If you use Whites/Blacks for the recovery instead of Shadows/Highlights there should be no flicker.

I know I should do more intensive testing on this subject, but are you basically suggesting that all the sliders besides the shadows/highlights won't cause flickering? Even exposure or sharpening? Cause so far to keep it safe I've only been doing VISIONLOG & White Balance inside ACR and doing everything else in after effects to avoid that flicker.  Thanks

Very professional!
The build that you used, it's for Firmware 1.2.3?

Thanks!
It was actually the build for 1.1.3 firmware.

Where is the link?

The video should just pop up, but I inserted the link underneath in case that doesn't work

Great looking footage! I love the grade, would be really interested in a brief explanation on how to get these colors. Anyway thanks for the video!

Thanks! Did all of my color in after effects mostly using curves.

Very nice I like it ;)

Thank you!

Thanks guys, I did all the color in after effects and then brought everything into FCPX for final export.

(I accidentally posted this on the wrong section last time and it was never moved here)

Went out to shoot some photos for Lotuss Clothing Supply's Spring LookBook and ended up shooting some Raw Video
This is my first project using my 5D Mark III and Magic Lantern RAW.
Shot using only a 35mm 2.0 lens, Fly Cam and natural light.
Used 2.35 aspect ratio for 1920x818 and 48fps to convert to slow motion.
Used the Feb 6th build and experienced no issues on set with loss of footage, frames or any of that.
Big thanks to the Magic Lantern team for even making this a possibility! I was very pleased with the footage. More to come..

Does this now allow us to use the sliders without the exposure flickers caused from ACR? Or is that completely different?
