Getting other OS (kernel) on DSLR is a quite an achievement - congratulations!
Linux kernel seems to be rather optimal for servers. I am looking at other kernels that optimized for ARM CPUs.
1. STlinux.com - I am going to try it on my autonomous robot which controls telescope DIY AZ mount. By the way currently the system is simple round robin event driven scheduler on ARM328p.
2. minix3.org - it has been around for many years, now is minix3. I used it in 1990s for OEM controller development
3. http://www.oberon.ethz.ch - amazing OS. Very small kernel for diskless workstations. In 1980s, when it was devised, I build machine running on 6809 CPU, do not know what my employer at that time did with it ????
4. Nokia's SYMBIAN - not sure if source or specification is available, The most efficient/fastest embedded OS ever developed. Nokia development team is very friendly, so something may be negotiated???? ( I am not talking about Microsoft )

It is just food for thought .... Not sure which way I will go yet for my EOS-M as astro cam.

Regarding crop factor. I have Sanyang 85 T1.5 lenses, to have a crop 1:1 (or close to it), I used focal reducer 0.75 ( 32mm dia ) from my astronomical telescope. Fits nicely to EOS M - just put as close to sensor as possible, results look promising. As soon as I make ring to secure reducer in the body of cam I will shoot test video.

Test video is on line. Try http://vimeo.com/84560480

Which make/model focal reducer btw?

Good question - Focal reducers are available in any astronomical shops, I have not seen branding on them just reducing factor. Two sizes 1.25" which is traditional size of focuser and larger, becoming more popilar for 2" focusers.
China makes millions of them .... I suppose some resellers just brand them .... marketing trick.

The cards I use are: 32 GB SanDisk Extreme 45MB/s (no ML) and 32GB Transcend SDHC (10) with ML on it.

Duplicate Questions / Re: EOS M Live View via USB
January 09, 2014, 10:49:08 AM
I do not have nor ever had have Microsoft based computers so Canon software is out of the question.
iMac 17" ( intel core duo ) reached "use by date" it will not even boot - the message is like ... "can not run legacy software", to reload firmware to original state is not possible, APPLE ditched it .... bummer ... it was my first APPLE box, never ever touch any thing from this company again.
My boxes are UNIX and Linux.

Duplicate Questions / EOS M Live View via USB
January 08, 2014, 10:20:41 AM
Could no find FAQ regarding EOS M - USB Live View so decided to ask.
1. Is it USB LV enabled on this camera ? Tried on Nexus 7 the DSLDashboard - it talks to cam but nothing can be displayed i.e. images or videos.
2. Are any plans to make this feature in ML by someone ?
3. Any idea how difficult it can be? - I am thinking of bulding gstreamer port ( relevant parts of it ) or borrow code from VLC - to build a module. Did not try VLC talking to EOS M yet ... may be tonight project.

It would be great to use Nexus 7 as external monitor for films and astro. The "IPcam" Android app. does strem video from web cams via WiFi.
Thanks ....... Kris

ML installation - SD card want boot. When I got EOS M I wanted to use ML. Follow all instructions on the net ... the SD card would not boot.
The solution - as I use only UNIX/Linux systems the utility called fsck ( fsck from util-linux 2.22.2
fsck 1.42.7 version ) showed that "dirty bit is set ". It means that hard disk (SD in this case ) is corrupted so it can not be mounted nor used as boot disk. The fix is as follows, you have to be root or sudoer:
# fsck -a /dev/sdf1   ( where sd....1 what ever letter is your SD card ).  I do not know if this works on OSX.
I use 32GB class 10 SD cards. Did not try 64 or 128 GB yet. ML is great ....

Hi there! I'm new to the forum, and want to thank you all for your hard work.

I have a problem that I hope you can help with. I recently bought an EOS-M and couldn't wait to put ML on it. It ................ is 89 pages long now and my search found nothing.

People that have ML running on EOS M ..... Brand new camera, after initial tests wanted to get ML. Finaly I can get to "green screen" stage - so it boots and loads FIR.
On subsequent power up it stays there flashing green led for ever.
SDHC card is 32GB Transcend class 10 ( very fast, excellent on on Sony video cams and perfect on EOS M as well). Have also SanDisk SDHC 32GB class 10  but did not try it

Aby help will be appreciated .....    Kris
