It helped me! Many thanks

:)
#2
Thanks for your help.

I got it working with Wine, as the mac version didn't have the ability to update embedded Jpegs.

Also discovered (to my horror) that ingesting via Prelude and renaming the .Mov files means you can't load them back on the card. Even if they adhere to the character limits.

In an ideal world I'd just make a short movie with all my plate shots edited together, then select ghosts images on the fly in Lantern.

But again, touching the original .MOVs in any way makes them unplayable. There doesn;t seem to be a way of rendering out Canon friendly .MOVs.

oh well!

Thanks Walter.

You suggestion worked - but I involved me having to use a Windows machine, as I could not find out how to replicate the  Export/Import -> Embed preview image into selected. I'm Mac based.

I'm not adept at Terminals or how to pass commands to Exif.

If you have the time, could you tell me what commands I might use to Embed the Modified Previews ito the raw files.

I understand the principle, that I need to use RAW files jpeg previews as the 'trojan horse' to make this happen (I think), but that's where my knowledge ends!

Many thank for the reply, in any case.

#4
Thanks but, 1 isn't accurate enough - or practical.

and

2. If I load jpeg directly from the card into photoshop, then resave as a flattened jpeg, with new pasted content, the camera refuses to see it.

Something about the jpeg format?  I've making a film where I revisit many places and people - need to reliably match frames quickly.

any help appreciated!
#5
If anyone can just tell me how to get a simple JPEG back onto the card so it's readable as a Ghost image, I would be eternally grateful!
#7
Hi all , I would really appreciate some quick help.

I am reshooting a scene, and want to use some existing original 5D3 footage as the Ghost Image for the new shot.
The Old footage is no longer on the card, and I can not find a way of putting it back into the 5D3 card to enable ML to 'see' the clips.

I have tried copying footage via canon software, putting it directly into the  same folder as the camera is shooting to.

Nothing shows up :-(

Help!!!. On a shoot today, and this is critical.

many thanks.

I shot and edited this alone. Great fun. Great Cause.

I used :
5D3, Magic Lantern [nightly]. Tamron VC 24-75, various Nikkor Primes 135mm is a beauty. Picture style VisionTech. Graded in Speedgrade with some Neat Noise reduction and grain.

Wish I'd popped off some raw, but it was too chaotic. Next time!

Enjoy

Adobe confirmed it's a bug with premiere 7.1.0.  Workaround is to export edl or use Premiere cs6. They tell me they are on the case.
#10
Look at the XML you send to resolve. From FC.  See if it has the {reel} tag after each media clip.  If it doesn',t it will fail. I had more success using Edls .
#11
NOT FIXED:

I noticed that premiere's FCP export no longer includes <REEL> names   :-\

SO......
In resolve confirm options
Keep 'Assist using Reel names' [Checked]
But change Pattern to: */%

I guess Resolve was looking for Reel names that didn't exist in the premiere xml.

This doesn't work.......

Anyone????

Put me out of my misery!
#12
I can confirm that the problem is with the XML export from Premiere Pro 7.1.0

1.Create Quicktime Prores Proxies from DNGS created with Raw Magic via 5DIII
2. Using Premiere CS6, edit my Resolve generated DNG proxies
3. FCP EXPORT .XML
4. Opens perfectly in Resolve. The Original DNGs are re-linked. All is good.

The same thing with Premiere CC 7.1.0
Opening XML in resolve gives me 'Fail; to Link Because timecode extends do not match'

world of pain - I can't manually relink 100's of DNG in resolve.

Something is broken.

Could anyone please test with Premiere CC 7.1.0 & Resolve 10.

I have attached the 'good' and 'bad'  XML's. Don't really know what I'm looking for - any help appreciated! If there was a simple way to modify the XML to get it working - that would be great!

As of resolve 10, I have been unable to re-link Proxys made in resolve, Edited in Premiere CC with the Original DNGs in resolve.

Using this Guide http://nofilmschool.com/2013/09/tutorial-canon-5d-mark-iii-magic-lantern-raw-offline-online/ all was good in 9 - now when I import the Edited XML (or EDL) from Premiere to resolve, I get an error: 'timecode extents failed to link'

I have tried unchecking the Resolve option to 'use unique File names' when exporting the proxies (appends 'V1-000_' to the front of the proxy) - the result was the same.

I can see that resolve has the Correct Reel Names for the DNGS - and they match the Names of the DNG Folders, and the Proxies I render out.

Pulling my hair out!

Can anyone help - would be much appreciated!

I really want to avoid manually force conforming in resolve.

Wth resolve 10 when I make proxies and bring in the edited xml back in from Premiere, it doesn't relink them, – 'failed to link because 'timecode extens do not mate any clip in media pool'

It was working in resolve 9

I have 'Assist using Reel names from
  • Source clip pathname' checked

    Frustrating!

    I'm on a mac

    Any help appreciated

Suspect it has something to do with the naming convention of the converted CinemaDNG file.
The quickest workflow I have found for cranking out woth with raw is: covert Canon Raw via RawMagic, Import into Resolve, evaluate clips, render for editing Premiere, checking it to 'Use Source Filenames'.

This is a very quick process - but you can see the names of the proxies don't correspond to the original file names.

If you look at the Filename in the Resolve's Media Pool the DNGs are called: M07-1257_[00000_000451].dng
But the exported proxies are called M07-1257_00000.mov

An excellent walkthrough by Jesse Borkowski explains the process
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-0S2MJT9wDY -

but uses Blackmagic cinemaDNG files.

If I throw in some clip with other file formats, resolve handles the roundtrip for those files perfectly.

Anyone got any ideas?

Many thanks

I rendered prores proxy files of my cinemaDNGs that I have from RawMagic. I did my editing with premiere pro and exported a finalcut-xml. In resolve I imported the xml (without the proxys so that it would connect to the c-DNGs files in the media pool), however, it connects the same file to every single clip.

I have the same problem - have to force reconfirm each clip - as the all link to the same as - as you say.

ML 2.3 with Canon 5D MkIII and various Nikkor Lenses.

So nice to expose well with ML. Managed to capture skies that usually blow out. Wish I'd shot some in raw
