This is great chmee! (1.5 beta)  Superb program and interface, no problems here just good CDNG files to import direct to PPro CC, no vertical banding or pink highlights, thank you.

+1 for the Kingston FCR-HS3 it is a beast indeed and has no problems with my files.  I am using SanDisk 64GB Extreme Pro CompactFlash Memory Cards (160MB/s) and they handle the mlv/raw continuous with no issues at all.  Very nice cards and of course a perfect match to this reader.

Hi chmee,

I've been away on holiday for a while, just got my 5D Mark III and I am happy to report that all previous issues I had in the past are now gone.  No hot/bad sensels or anything else.  MLV/RAW files import perfectly into PPro CC iwth no color cast issues so far.  I only shot a couple of things in the last day or two since I got my camera but so far it all looks good.  I'll do some more testing and report back.

The interface it great and it work a treat, fast too.  Great work!

@chmee

Question: Is the mlv2cdng app going to work in the same way as the raw2cdng app?  What I mean is will we still have to convert from MLV>RAW or will it be drop MLV files straight into the GUI and convert to CDNG.  The one thing I like about raw2cdng is the SPEED!  It is blazing fast on my system.

This is great James.  I can say that working with the plugin as it exists right now is a joy.  Having the ability to adjust exposure control, white balance, highlight & shadow is important as Malex mentioned is important.  If we could use it with ACR even better, but I don't know the tech side of things or how that could be accomplished (if it could).  But if it was, then you have the "Holy Grail" PPro CC plugin.  The one thing about raw import as I am using it now is the ability to open it in ACR which gives you a huge advantage from the start of your work flow.

Shoot Raw>Edit Raw>Color Raw>Export Raw> +1 on that.

This is of course the workflow we all want.

I'm still good no pink frames but I have not updated past the Feb 16th build which works on my 60D.

Although I may be able to shoot continuous in low res, it doesn't serve my purpose as I would not shoot that way in real case scenarios.  I want to shoot at the resolutions I need to work with, so if I shot at 640x480 and could shoot for 30 minutes it still isn't going to be anything I would ever use.  I am interested in what I can shoot and use in my projects and right now what I get works without pink frames.  However I'll give it a go in low res and see what happens.

Sounds good, can't wait to see what happens with this.

ML is probably responsible for a very large number of Canon sales.  I bought my camera after I found out I could use ML with it.

Well, that's all I get before it stops automatically.  >:( I WISH I could get 1000 frames!  MLV_REC works well.  I guess my 60D is limited by its hardware.

I don't know but right now this is the FW I'm staying on for now because it works!  Any more ideas?  Let me know if you need more tests.

After lots of more testing in 60i here are the results...

mlv_rec.mo
Canon menu: Quality: RAW > 1280x720 60i / ML menu:
FPS Override > 60fps
Clean > average 220 frames 10/10 shots no pink frames.

FPS Override > 60fps 5X Magic Zoom
Clean > average 205 frames 10/10 shots no pink frames.

FPS Override > 60fps  10X Magic Zoom
Clean > average 215 frames 10/10 shots no pink frames.

raw_rec.mo
Canon menu: Quality: RAW > 1280x720 60i / ML menu:
FPS Override > 60fps
Clean > average 227 frames 10/10 shots no pink frames.

FPS Override > 60fps 5X Magic Zoom
Clean > average 203 frames 10/10 shots no pink frames.

FPS Override > 60fps  10X Magic Zoom
Clean > average 205 frames 10/10 shots no pink frames.

Total Pink Frame Count = 0

Code: [Select]
#include <iostream>

using namespace std;

int main ()

cout << "Those are really great results for the 60D"  ;

cout << "Now all I need is a way to go straight to PPro!  ;

return 0;
}

I just took my first C++ lessons today!

Build a bridge, people will walk across it.  With no bridge, the divide remains.  Open a door, someone will walk through it.  I merely wanted to build a bridge and open a door, to see if anyone would cross or enter.  Let's see.

Okay, will do.  If only the raw2dng_escho output would go straight into Premiere Pro CC... it's a dream come true.   :D

@ a1ex  After further extensive testing I can report that I can shoot in mlv_rec.mo/raw_rec.mo with mRaw/RAW (Canon menu) with no pink frames and also the same in Magic Zoom 5X and 10X, no pink frames zoomed in.  All output is clean and perfect with raw2dng_escho with no sensels/cold/hot/dead pixels.  Perfect raw and output on my 60D.  Looks good.  Any changes you want me to test for 60D?

Same format as before 10 shots per setting, no pink frames in 10/10.

@chmee  I have been doing lots of testing and also testing for pink frames on my 60D and now it seems to have been fixed.  Did some more experimenting with conversions.  Still getting the odd pixels/sensels in raw2cdng but if I convert with raw2dng_escho.exe the files are perfect.  Here is a raw2dng_escho file for your reference (Canon 60 D / MZ 5X mode / mlv_rec.mo @ 1280x720)

Okay, well it certainly works and I am on the same OS (Windows 7 Ultimate x64 SP1).  Here is a video screen capture to show usage...

So just keep slugging away and you'll get it to work.  Your missing something somewhere but I don't know where.  Can you drop a .RAW file into the GUI?  Are the Output path and Tif Model tag check boxes checked?  Look at the video and duplicate what you see and it should work as you can see it does.

1. Download raw2cdng 1.4.9.zip  http://dl.phreekz.de/raw2cdng/raw2cdng.1.4.9.zip
2. Extract it into a folder called raw2CDNG.  You will get 2 files in the zip, mlv_dump.exe and raw2cdng.1.4.9.exe.
3. Copy one MLV and one RAW file into the same directory as the installed files.
4. Double click on the raw2cdng.exe file, the GUI opens.
5. Drag your MLV file from the same folder as where the program is onto the open raw2cdng GUI (program window).
6. The mlv_dump.exe command box should open and start extracting the MLV and then when it is finished you will see the RAW file in the GUI.  Then all you need to do is export it where you want to.

I can drag and drop files from the desktop, SD card, C drive, D drive, it all works.

The contents of your folder should look like this...

I named my folder raw2CDNG, and it looks as above.  I dragged one MLV and one RAW file in there and it started working from then.  You need to have mlv_dump.exe (http://upload.g3gg0.de/pub_files/fb196456f6a6389763cab895fb6067f8/mlv_dump.exe) in the same folder otherwise you'll just get that brief command window popup.  In my testing you need to have everything all in the same folder including the MLV/RAW files...

Set your settings (as in the previous picture, then with all the contents of your folder looking as above, drag the MLV file onto the raw2cdng window, it should pop open the command window and look like this...

See if that helps.

Make sure you have Gamma at 1.0, check the box for partymode and then try moving any files you want to encode into the same folder as raw2cdng, I think that is what I did, might be worth a try.  Also use the latest nightly build.  I was having that same problem and I checked/unchecked partymode and tried 10,12,16 bit and all that but I think it was when I set the Gamma to 1.0 is when it fixed it.  Make sure about the Gamma setting.

I ported the cold-pixel-fix from raw2dng to mlv_dump. Should be in the next nightly. If you are interested in, give it a try. The commandline option for mlv_dump is:

Code: [Select]
--fixcp

Edgar

Do I need to download a newer version of mlv_dump.exe to use this?  Or is it in camera where this fix takes place?

One more note, on the newest build "magiclantern-v2.3.NEXT.2014Feb16.60D111" I now get an additional 40+ frames in 1280x720 mlv_rec.mo in RAW (Canon menu: Quality - RAW 5184x3456)  That is a bonus as now I get 10.20 -10.45 second clips and that is very usable.  Thanks a1ex!  Whatever you did seems to be working on the 60D!  I'm still running further tests now on crop 5X-10X/60FPS.

@Wartburg-Entertainment

What camera, RAW2CDNG settings are you using?  (It helps to put all your specs in your user profile signature).  I had that same issue in 1.4.8.  In 1.4.9 I do not.  Latest version is... http://dl.phreekz.de/raw2cdng/raw2cdng.1.4.9.zip

My settings are like this...

I get no pinkish output but still the hot/sensels problem exists.

@ andy kh

Oh... unfortunate.  Did you check all my Canon/ML settings?  I think these three things had something to do with it.

Auto power off - off (was on)
Auto preview - off (was set at 2 seconds)
sRaw 2592x1728 (changed to mRaw 3888x2592 and RAW 5184x3456)
