1) Use EOScard (Windows) or MacBoot (OS X/macOS) to make card bootable
or
2) Run install with 8 GB card.

Card must be bootable and copying the files over without won't work. Never has.

I used EOScard on the 8Gb CF card. With the files on it.

It all works again. Can't thank you enough Walter, THX

Hello all,

For years I use Magic Lantern on my 5Dc and for years I use it with my Sandisk Extreme CF 60MB/s 8Gb card and it all worked perfectly!

But the last week I can't get it to work anymore on this card.

When I installed the ML on the camera (in the early days) it said in the manual to use a smaller card first, then copy these files to a bigger card and it would work fine (it did for years).

I copied the same files of my 1Gb card to the 8Gb card and now it doesn't work anymore..... When inserting the 1Gb card ML works

Some tests I did:

  • Manual mode
  • with and without battery grip
  • copying files from the 1Gb to the 8Gb card
  • downloaded the files from website again (they are the same files, but did it anyway)

Does any of you have some more advice on what to do? I could live with the idea to use ONLY the 1Gb card for the ML features but it would narrow me down on making photos with it (57 photos on 1Gb or 474 on the 8Gb card).

Any help would be helpfull

User Introduction / Hello there pro's.

This is my first post on this forum and I know I should wonder around and check it out but it seems to me I can't find an answer to my question.... So I ask the question in the introduction.....

I am 45 years old and live in the Netherlands. I am a snapshot shooter for 24 years now and my main photos were concert photos. I say were because the last 5 years it is more and more nature and or landscape and or HDR, architecture...

The main camera I use is the Canon EOS 5D. An other camera I have is the EOS 20D but this one is converted to infrared! Then I have a pocket version as camera, the Panasonic DMC-LX3. I have/ use different lenses but the total range i have is from 17-500mm, also lensbaby lenses and homemade lenses.

A friend told me about the Magic Lantern and still I am scared of breaking down my camera (I don't mean this harsh). The firmware I am using now on the camera is 1.1.1 and if I download this ML new version I have to downgrade the camera to firmware 1.0.9 and then upgrade with ML.

1 - Wouldn't it be smart to wait until ML can be installed on a camera with firmware 1.1.1?
2 - Would it be smart to also install it on the converted EOS 20D? I mean would I benefit from it?
