Yes i'have done.I found that température could goes up to more than 70°.But it does not tell me if it can cause damages to camera...I know that heat is not good to noise signal, more the camera will be cold, better image quality at high isos will be better...As anybody can experiment by shooting in winter...I do not find anything about % rolling shutter to know me what it could be on a picture...

Hi,

With a low frame rate (0,3) i can get 12 pictures into buffer, exposure time is setting to 1s.The camera show 41°C and the camera body is hot,is it dangerous for the camera?

I don't undersand what mean % rolling shutter, more the frame rate is low, more this % is close for 0.What does it mean?

Hi,

Just received my Lexar X1066...What an improvement!!Really nice!Everything are so much quick,no more freezing with my settings...I use 1.2.3 firmware, but silent mode do not work...error 70..Do i must downgrade to 1.1.3 ?Is the speed improvement valuable with Lexar X1066 ?I get114mb/s in writing..

Thanks a lot,one more time,to all devellopers for this fantastic tool!

-Hi Levas,thank for your reply!

Did something similar with a 6d.
I used the full resolution crop_rec mode which is 5464x3072 at 2.5fps on 6d.
Although I didn't use prerec, since you can't put much frames in there in that high resolution. And you still need to hit the record button quick to catch the lightning.
So I just recorded continuously, whenever buffer runs full and recording stops, I hit record button again for a new MLV file.

-Yes,1/10s exposure time is really good to catch lightning, when using longer exposure like for example 30s,if the lightning appears in the beginning of exposure, then ,the most little branched lightning will be drowned into sky background at the exposure end...If the lightning appears at the end,it's won...I really need pre rec mode like on my Atomos called Pre roll mode, because the TEL lightning are not visible to naked eye (actually when you are far away from them (300-400 kilometer away) and they are unpredictable...I can know where they can appear but at any time when...So CF card capacity do not allow to shoot continously...Impossible to unload the CF card on the field...Or it is very complicated.

You can get 2,5 with Canon 6D,what is your settings and SD card?SD are less expensive than CF...I own 6d too,it could be interresting.

This one was shot handheld with 10-17mm Tokina fisheye.
Iso 3200 - Shuttertime 1/10th of a second and aperture of 5.6    (5464x3072 at 2.5 fps in 14 bit lossless)
(If I didn't shoot handheld, I probably would go for longer shuttertime, did miss a lot of lightning through 1/10th shuttertime and only 2.5 fps)

-Really nice shot!As i say above, longer exposure could drowned lightning details depending when they appear...

-Hi Histor, thanks a lot for your reply!

May I ask you a question: isn't lightning "slow enough" to be caught by motion detection and full-resolution silent pictures? It might be tested with some video at home...

-Actually,i don't know...Because first,i do not know the existence of this setting with silent picture mode...But i will see and try...I guess that the motion detection works due the high luminous contrast difference between ''with'' and ''without'' lightning, isn't it?.Really interresting, one more time, thank you!But i have open this post due to an another kind of lightning, they are called TLE or ''transcient luminous event'' and these lightning are much more quick (1/10s) and much less bright...So i do not think that it could work with the silent mode motion capture...

1) No additional sensitivity

-OK,that would have been a dream!! :)

2) I guess buffering happpens in RAM, then data slowly pass to the card. Getting free RAM is a good idea - unload all unused modules. Long time ago we even compiled without some features (defishing, etc.) to make ML smaller.

-OK,i will breack my piggy  bank for Lexar X1066!

3) Is the bitdepth really critical here? You're shooting just a bright line. Everything else should be blended from a good long exposure frame. Isn't it?

-I'm a artist photographer with a lot of deontology...Maybe too much...I am againt this kind of  photomontage, particulary with nightscape photography... But for the lightning you are speaking about,it is the lightning itself that expose the scene...So blended montage is useless in my opinion.

Here is one of my picture, actually stacked picture extract from 4K video, with Sony A7s and Atomos Ninja 4K 10 bits (compressed) coming from HDMI. 25600 isos 85mm Lens F1,2 wide open 4K 25 i/s.The final picture has been resized into 3/2 format. The TLE duration is around 1/10s,here is 6 pictures stacked togheter to get the whole phenomenon.

Please, report on you experience. Check CHDK forum on that subject too.

-Yes i will do..But what is CHDK forum?

Hi,

I'm trying to find the best solution to shoot lightning with my 5D3 under ML.
I have some questions:

1)Is the 3x3 binning mode hardware or software?I mean, when using the 3X3 binning mode,
is the sensor sensitivity higher?Like when using an astronomical camera?

2)I use until now a X266 CF card (70Mo/s Writing),but i'm looking for a Lexar x1066.If i pay for
the Lexar, will be a change into the image buffering for pre rec mode?

3)My settings are: Full res live view 5K 14 bits lossless, frame rate 1s, pre rec 2s.
Picture with 14 bits lossless are lighter than 10 bits raw, that is why i can get 2 frame with pre rec mode.
It works with these setting, but it is not really stable...Could it be better with the (expensive) Lexar 1066X?

Thanks a lot to all ML devellopers to share with us this magical tool!

It works on my 6Da and ML nightly 2016Dec19.6D116

just copied from astro.rar the astro.mo to the sd card

[edit] tested the newest nightly build 2017Sep30.6D116, it loads astro modul, seems to be working, still no field test performed...

Hi,yes it works with 6D 1.1.6 with the last nightly build ,but the LV gain must be on 0 EV...
