Raw Video / Re: Raw Video Playback on 5D Mark iii

There is audio recorded in raw so you're not going to hear any sound until that option is brought back in...if it's ever brought back in. I suspect most users would prefer to have rock solid raw recording rather than audio.

It's hard to tell if you're joking or not, but I will tell you that swapping out the DIGIC processor from a 5D3 is probably a wee bit more difficult and pricey than just purchasing this:

Are you serious, a black magic pocket camera? Why would I want to down grade to a smaller sensor, has slightly less dynamic range, and is really noisy in low light compared to the 5D3?

Someone needs to do their research: http://www.cinema5d.com/?p=17976

I can confirm that the MlRawViewer does not work in 10.8.5, I drag the MLV file onto the program and the program quits unexpectedly. Tried other ways to open it, nothing. Guess I'll have to install a separate linux system and dual boot it on my macbook pro, not going to be upgrading to Apple's stupid 10.9.X

Playback is one of the biggest thorns in ML raw's side. It has gotten better, and now features a low-res almost realtime playback, and an option for high res color low frame rate playback. The guys might be able to optimize it a bit, but I doubt it will ever be as smooth as the h.264 playback. I think there's simply too much data for the CPU to process and playback in real time.

Some guys are using an external recorder like the Ninja to record the HDMI signal alongside the raw data so that they can get playback from it. Other people have a laptop handy and simply load the CF card on it and have a quick look.

As much as I would love smooth playback, I have to say that I hardly ever actually use it in real-world situations except to check for safety (in which case I can deal with crappy playback).

It's been 10 days later since I posted this, and the playback has improved!!! Now I can press the Play button to see the last video I recorded. I like the new MLV, don't hear sound during playback, probably will be an option later.

How hard would it be to disassemble the 5D3 and swap out the digic processor for a newer one?

Raw Video / Raw Video Playback on 5D Mark iii
December 09, 2013, 02:02:19 AM
After I record raw files on my 5D3 and then go to the file manager to watch them play, it seems very slow and the red blinking light keeps blinking. I know it's cause so much data is being processed. but is there a way to make it smoother? Is there a way to hack the Digic Processor?

After recording RAW Video I'd love to be able to press the PLAY button above the trash can in order to playback the last raw file.

I remember reading that the 5D3 doesn't capture the entire sensor and that you can change the recording size of the sensor. Would it be possible to take a Sigma 50-150mm F2.8 that's made for APS-C sensors, put it on a 5D3 full-frame and have magic lantern capture a smaller area of the sensor?

Any chance you could make the file for me? I feel like i would mess something up, since i don't know anything about code.

In shoot_task (in shoot.c) you can call display_off() if get_halfshutter_pressed() is true. Probably a good idea to make sure you don't call it more than once, call display_on() once it's released.

I can't find how to get to shoot.c

Looks like kind of complete.
There is also a manual to be sure. ;-)

Where's the manual for the nightly build? Can't seem to find it.

Ml became a rolling release model.
The latest nightly version is considered as stable.

Are these the all files needed to installed Magic Lantern on my 5D3?

I found the latest "nightly" build for the 5D3 in the dropdown menu here: http://builds.magiclantern.fm/#/

But I read somewhere you're supposed to installed the stable version first, before the nightly.
