Hey everyone,

I was using the April 21 update with the 5d 1.1.3. Nothing fancy, just using the 1080, normal 14 bit, no crop. Very little lockups or issues.

I then tried the April 21 update with the 5d3 1.2.3 firmware and I seem to be have more lockups and recordings stopping (not all the time but less stable then with the older firmware).

Is that normal? is the 1.2.3 firmware less stable. Or is it something I am doing?

Does anyone else have any ideas or experience?

Cheers

Hey everyone, I used to use this a while ago with after effects. But the link to download it does not work anymore.

Does anyone know where I can get a copy?
Or is there another solution?

Thanks
Chris

Thank you, any advice for dealing with hot pixels, I seem to have quite a few?

Thank you Wib!

That is literally the most informative video I have ever watched on the subject. Answered so many questions!!!

So the under exposed lines, is that normal to all 5d 3's or is it bad luck that I have the issue on mine?

Hey,

I am messing around with the 5.7K anamorphic on the 5d3 and really enjoying it.

Does anyone have any good recommendations  of how best to desqueeze the Anamorphic DNGs in AE and Resolve?

Any settings to yield the best result possible?

I thought it was fixed pattern noise but I didn't want to just assume.

How do I dark frame average? I had a google search but that lead me down a rabbit hole.

Is there a specific point that the lines become apparent that I could look for in the scopes? Or some way of seeing a marker for it in any of the view assists?

Hey,

Does anyone have any advice on dealing with the vertical lines that appear in dark under exposed areas. Im trying to work with the noise floor of the 5d3 in 14 bit. So far I am handling/dealing with the chroma noise ok. But the vertical banding is very difficult to remove and if there a slight hint of it, really damages the sharpness when Youtube compresses it.

Is there anything I can do, I assume this is normal?

Has anyone got any advice with how to deal with this ?

(The lines are more noticeable in movement then in a still frame)

Thanks

Raw Video / Re: Raw video on 5DMK2
January 12, 2021, 06:40:56 PM
Thanks everyone.

I actually went back to the last nightly build from 2018, for stability issues, one of the experimental builds I was using seems to corrupt files every now and then. I am only interested in using 14bit raw anyway.

I am having issues with my external monitor, sometimes I get pink flickers for a second and my last batch if clips had flickering issues that ruined them.

Is there a problem with the 5d2 and using an external monitor in raw?
(Both the experimental build and the older nightly build, seemed to cause some issues when I plugged my Cinieroid HDMI EVF/monitor).

Thanks
Chris

Thanks for the advice,

I do find my footage has a slight red tint to it, I am having trouble removing it.
How has other people dealt with this issue?

Thanks

Hey everyone, I have been using my 5d2 with an external monitor and I have found that the records times are slightly reduced.

I have Global draw set to turn off when recording and I don't have the sound module.

In other peoples experience, is there any settings I can tweak to squeeze some more performance out of it?

Cheers

Raw Video / Card not Formatted issue with 5d 2.
January 09, 2021, 03:29:15 PM
Hi,

I am using my 5d2 and whenever I format the card, I get the cannon message that the card can't be formatted.
Has any one had this error?

Without Magic lantern the card formats fine. Is this a build issue or has something changed?

I never had this issue in that past.

Any advice or thoughts?

Thanks
Chris

I used to use MLVFS a few years ago. I am now trying Magic lantern again. Though currently I am using MLV APP.

I always preferred the simplicity of MLVFS.

With the 14bit raw from the 5d 2 and 3, does the MLV to CDNG conversation have the same results in image quality? Or does one program have the edge on this?

Any thoughts from seasoned users?

Thanks

Chris

Thanks Rob!

Just what I needed, I have a much better understanding of it now.

Getting much better results.

This is what I have been using. On the crop modes It just starts recording then stops.
The normal modes like 1920 1080 or 1920 1220, seems to work fine.

Any ideas? Am I missing a setting? Or using a wrong build?

Thanks
Chris

Hi everyone
I have been using the Jun 19 crop_rec on 5d iii with kombuterbay 1106 card.

Most of the higher res crop modes stop recording almost immediately, I get maybe a second.

If there something I'm missing here? Something I haven't set up right.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Do people think the MLVFS is that much better then something like Rawmagic?

With MLVFS  once you have mounted the MLV files, is it best to load them directly. Or copy them out of the mounted drive so they are just normal DNG folders?

Thanks

Chris

Cant get MLV audio to work on the 70d

Hi
I have been using ML raw for a while on 5d 2.
Just put it my 70d, it all works fine except the mlv audio.
I have enabled the Mlv and the MLv audio modules, though when I import it in with MLV viewer there is no audio at all.
Does anyone know what I am doing wrong?

The h264 video has audio.
I used the 2015dec22,70d111a

Thanks
Chris :)

Raw Video / Re: Raw video on 5DMK2

Hey everyone.
I have been using the 5d2 raw for a while, here is my latest film. I made with it.
I have two questions I am hoping someone might have an answer to.

1. Can we output a better then 420p hdmi signal for focusing with magic lantern?
2. What is the fasted constant recording we can get at the moment?
I have had results up to 1872x 940. Though I have heard we can get higher. I would love a little more resolution, are there any recommended settings to get slightly more resolution. Im using a 64gb komputer bay card.
Thanks
Chris

Awesome. That has been really helpful.
I will run some proper tests on the weekend.
See how it looks.

Thanks

thats great mate! Thankyou.

Im doing tests with your settings and the latest build and I am starting to get some better results.

I do feel the motion on the 5d2 raw video is a little different. more choppy and less fluid.
Have you found this at all?
Thanks :)

Thanks, thats improved it alot, though there is still a frame drop every now and then. Im filming a timer and Im still seeing it.
Are there just small frame drops on the 5d2? Just a characteristic of the ml raw on the 5d2?
