General Help Q&A / Re: Settings changing
February 10, 2016, 05:11:39 AM
Thank you Walter.  That fixed it.  I just want to be able to use it for basketball when mounting to the stanchion.  Perhaps have it adjust to various exposures such as the LED boards.  Perhaps lock focus when a player gets within 8 feet and fire shots until the player leaves the frame.

General Help Q&A / Settings changing
February 10, 2016, 04:17:04 AM
I have a Canon 5D Mark III with 1.2.3 nightly installed.  Right now when in manual mode and camera not being touched, the shutter speed, ISO and EV keeps changing.  Only the aperture remains a constant 2.8.   I can't seem to find what setting it is to do one of the following:

1. stop doing this
2. create a minimum and maximum range for the shutter and ISO to roam in and also a way to change the aperture to about f/5.6

When in Tv mode, the aperture won't go above f/2.8 either.

Thank you

There are two issues at work here:

  • The 7D is not one of the three cameras (50D, 5D2, and 5D3) that currently have CONFIG_AFMA_EXTENDED defined in their respective internals.h, so the AFMA values stop at +/-20 instead of +/-100.  Presumably someone needs to confirm that the 7D can accept extended AFMA values without problem.
  • The DotTune module is slightly broken currently because it still has checks for CONFIG_AFMA_EXTENDED and CONFIG_AFMA_WIDE_TELE despite being a module now.  This needs to be fixed by replacing with functions and variables from afma.c.  In the meantime, no camera will show the options for extended fixed ranges (+/-40 or +/-100), but cameras with CONFIG_AFMA_EXTENDED defined will be able to access extended values in Auto range detection.

I have a Canon 5D Mark III and use the current nightly builds for 1.2.3 and mine only goes up to +/- 20.  It will tell me that I should try +/- 40 but it doesn't say how to get to that.

General Help Q&A / Re: ML and sports photography

I tried out Tv mode yesterday and it did fine.  I do need to bump my speed up higher though, I still have some motion blur at 1250 shutter.  I have not processed my night game from last night but I did half Tv and half in Dual-ISO.

I tried Av but it just just selects anything from 1/15-1/250 shutter.  So I get blurry limbs.
Had not thought about the Tv mode.

General Help Q&A / ML and sports photography

I use a Canon 5d Mark III and have been shooting sports photography, day and night for a few years but it appears as though since installing ML, my pictures are all either hazy, blurry bad color cast, the shutter speed jumps to a different speed than what I want etc..

Does anyone recommend any certain settings on MK for day football pictures and ones for night football pictures?

Thank you
