Yes, very true about the CA, luckily I've been able to fix those issues in my shots so far, but one day.. you never know!

Automatic fixing in ACR just didn't work for me - a lot of manual labor in PS was the result.

To show how easy it is w/ the Samyang I did a quick comparison here - done in seconds automatically in ACR w/ my default Samyang 85mm profile. Note especially the mannequin's heads and the neon signs (click pict for hires):

And looking at sample images, the bokeh is very nice on the Samyang.

I have the 85 1.8 too, but you're telling me you sold that in favor of this? Very interesting! Was a 0.4 f-stop worth more than AF? Or what else do you find that makes the Samyang preferable to the Canon?

Indeed I did, for various reasons:
- I prefer the rendering and bokeh of the Samyang
- I hated the EF's CA (same w/ the 1.2L, btw) - mostly heavy purple fringing which was near impossible to remove in ACR, so mostly I had to do it manually in PS
- actually 1.8 to 1.4 is 2/3 stops
- I don't really need AF - I work w/ lots of vintage manual lenses anyway...

I own a walimex (German distributor) branded Samyang 85mm ƒ/1.4 Aspherical IF UMC

A lot of people complain in frustration about focusing this lens and without any provisions it's really hard to focus @ƒ/1.4 because of the extremely thin DOF it produces. So I did a few things which brought my success rate to around 95% (the remaining 5% are low contrast situations):

- I glued on an EMF chip for camera feedback

- I select the desired focus point manually - I have focus point selection programmed to the thumbwheel on my 60D

- in ML I switched on trap focus on shutter half press

For some strange reason the last one really does the trick - there seems to be a difference between manually pressing the shutter button and having ML do it automatically - I guess it's the time difference from the moment the camera aquires focus. ML trap focus brought my success rate from around 70% (even with focus confirmation!) to 95%!
