Thanks for the wonderful software. Just curious to know if there will be an option for importing cdng files in the future versions :)

Tamil! Beautiful composition, sharp images. What is the workflow?

Cool video Wangtrirat! Did you use the BMD film in 'input transform device' as i cannot see the option cinema DNG in resolve 11? Also, it just converts to rec709; can we further the grading with more control that we otherwise have in the flat BMD film look? You said that you have more flexibility in dynamic curve, how aces enhances the control? :) so many questions, sorry. Also, read like LUTs can't be much of a help too in ACES grading.

Sure. Thanks Paul :) I couldn't stabilize in resolve. The output from premiere is kind of muddy as the black levels look changed. I would also like to know the best settings for vimeo to retain sharpness and contrast.

friends, I tried, for the first time, the crop mode magic lantern settings with a 50mm canon lens in my 5d mark III (august 2015 build).
2880X1320 with Global drawing On, histogram and waveform On, mlv sound Off.
There were frames skipping but I continued so that the recording goes for longer than 6 seconds.

Mlv to cdng by raw2cdng
Colored in resolve
music converted to wav in premiere, added to resolve (resolve doesn't accept mp3)

I would happy to know what could have made the video better.. Thanks.

Thank you so much buddy. Crop marks like ro3, rot, golden spiral and triangle all composed together as one bmp would also be great. Thanks again.

Thank you so much friends.. :)

Hi friends, I hope the post is relevant here... I am thankful, whole-heartedly to the creators and members of Magic Lantern. My first feature film now under post-production is being shot with magic lantern raw. I thought of sharing the poster here. The film being an independent one, magic lantern was extremely useful in bringing up the quality.

Great works friends from you all. Really great and am grateful to you all. This is a Tamil language film from Chennai, India ;) Name is translated as 'Nolan Equation.'

I am a newbie in filmmaking too, I will share the pics, trailers with you all soon.

Creators and developers of magic lantern and supporting software guys, here is my kneeling thanks :) Hopefully one day, I will meet you all in person to thank you.

Hi friends, my footage is mlv files from 5d3.. I am new to color grading. I have graded a footage applying LUTs. Inside Resolve, the footage is bright and sharp. After I render and watch it in vlc player, it is slightly dull. This look is seen in all render forms like dnxhd 444, dnxhd 220/10bit.

I haven't calibrated the monitor (LED HP pavilion 22fi)...Just tried my hands on grading. Why is this difference occuring? Should i consider this dull output and tweak a little extreme in resolve?

https://images.creativecow.net/273943/resolvcolordifference.jpg

thanks.

Quote"You are converting to CinemaDNG RAW. I really don't think it matters what white balance you set it to in Camera or how they are converted out, you can always change the WB before you actually start working on footage.

For in camera WB, its nice to set it somewhere close to what you believe is the right WB when shooting, but only for shooting preferences, the beauty of RAW is that you don't have to care about WB, you can set it to 12000K or 2000K, it doesn't affect the final image."

yes ..thanks kharak

hi.. there seems to be a problem.. Few days ago, when I imported my .raw files to raw2cdng 1.6.5, it showed me AWB (autowhite balance?) and it set the temperature to 4500 for all .raw files. I carried on with that along with my .mlv files, which got extracted fine (showed the temperature that i shot with).

Now, my .mlv files too show in the tool that the temperature is 4500 AWB.. This was not the temperature i set while shooting.

other .mlv files in other folders are each opening with some temperatures like 5800, 5000 etc.,. Each folder/shooting location has its own temperature shown for all the files contained in it. Is this how it will be? or am i doing something wrong?
#14
hi artyg..thanks and how do i do that? rendering cinelog-c..?
#15
thanks Artyg.. in resolve i just go on with coloring after linking the offline-edited timeline to cdng mediapool. I don't render anything for resolve. But after I grade, I would render dnxhd 220 for final import into AP.

I am currently editing cdngs directly in premiere cc. Even if I get pink highlights or other issues, I don't have to worry as I will import the xml to resolve checking on "automatically import files from media pool." Resolve never shows issues with cdng files (like pink highlights etc.,.). After coloring, I render high quality footage back to premiere for final mastering.

It would be great to have a lesson on the resolve-premiere-resolve-premiere roundtrip, as things are updated now :)
#16
hi chmee...

may i know the preferred settings in raw2cdng 1.6.5 for direct cdng editing in premiere pro cc (2014), for DCP/theatrical projection output?

the info is all spread out in posts and a compiled answer could save many beginners like me :) :)

thanks
#17
"23,97fps is defined as 24000/1001, whereas ml writes 23976/1000. in earlier versions i readjusted manually broken frames from fi 59940/1000 to 60000/1001. maybe thats a solution."

chmee.. sorry i don't understand. By earlier versions, do u mean raw2cdng tool?

How do i do that (manually adjusting broken frames)? thanks nd sorry for not knowing :)
#18
thanks DFM...

@sergiocamara, i follow option 2:

i selected fcproundtrip, but fcpxml could not be opened in premiere (i am on PC).... So i exported a normal xml...
1) it opened in premiere, but with importing two audio files for every video file
2) roundtrip did not link any file after importing xml from premiere into resolve after offline edits. it shows "timecode extents do not match any clip" and the reel name is blank

just followed ur instructions.. bt wat am i missing?
#19
yes feureau.. i did uncheck the "automatically import..." The reel name is blank when i import the xml from premiere.... Is premeire-resolve roundtrip with mlv's extracted via 1.6.5 working for someone pls?? It worked a few days ago with old mlv files. Can u guide pls?
#20
Hi.. before downloading 1.6.5, I had to do a video with 5d3 mlv extracted through earlier version (don't remember the version of raw2cdng). The procedure is premiere-resolve roundtrip. Roundtrip was successful. Every effects and cuts were maintained. Client was happy. Resolve (full), premiere cc 2014.

I now extracted new mlv files from 5d3 through 1.6.5 raw2cdng. I imported files to resolve after setting "master project settings" "assist reel name.." etc.,. I exported dnxhd 36 for proxy (as usual) and in premiere I did offline editing and exported finalcutpro XML for resolve roundtrip. This time I did not get the "FCP translation result.." notepad along with the xml (unlike in previous project). When i imported the XML to resolve 11. Resolve could not link the timeline to media pool, also nothing is seen under "reel name" section in resolve. Roundtrip failed and i had to manually link files.

Am i doing something wrong? any new tutorial on this roundtrip?
#21
vow.. u r awesome :)
#22
Hi chmee and friends, happy christmas ;)

hi kharak, there are no missing frames.
I used 1.6.3 beta after facing above problems in 1.6.1, but 1.6.3 beta also crashes upon loading even two files at a time, each with frames greater than 1000.
since then, I am uploading and extracting single file at a time (total includes 100s and 100s of files for serious video purpose), very laborious :(... but seriously, glad to have this tool :)

hi chmee, happy birthday  :) :)... I am using 1.6.1 meanwhile.. but,

1) I get black frames and the tool closes showing "raw2cdng stopped working" even after deleting the .json file in c/user/appdata folder
2) I drop six to seven files (around 1 to 3GB), the tool closes showing the above error. This also occurs when I drop seven files and uncheck five of them to extract only two.
3) The tool shows "converting" even after the files have been extracted to cdng... If I load despite that, the tool closes showing error.

The above all occurs in 1.6.1.... thanks.. :)
