Tragic Lantern / Re: 7D Raw Thread
September 11, 2013, 09:13:17 PM
I just shot an event video on a 5d Mkiii and a 7d, both shooting raw, all footage processed in Da Vinci.  The 5d stuff looked flawless.  As sharp as the C100, but with better color, and no compression issues.

The 7d stuff on the other hand, had purple fringes on all the highlights, and totally unusable aliasing and moire on most horizontal lines.  Short of a VAF filter or a stable implementation of the crop, I don't think I'd try to shoot this way again.

That being said, I still do prefer the look of the raw images to the h.264.  The work being done here is incredible.

Could someone send me the booton firmware please?  I'm on a mac

Great job Pelican, thank you for all your hard work.  Hopefully there will be someone to pick up where you left off.

It depends on the bandwidth only and my card can write about 42-44 MB/s

That makes sense but....

I can write 1600 x 600 without errors which requires 38.3 MB/s

But not 1280 x720 which requires 36.8 MB/s

Could you give me a link for the raw2dng you are using?

I am using Raw Magic, from the app store.  Is that a bad choice?

Oh I see, but based on the playback it's only the last line corrupted.

After conversion to DNG, something like the bottom 1/5 to 1/3 of the frame shows the usual pink issues.

1600x600 is too much for the Trascend 400x but 1600x534 is continous too...

Strange how higher res at some aspect ratios works better than lower res at others...

When it corrupts, it says so on the screen right away, and after the buffer is filled, it writes it to the card afterwards, and reads that each frame is corrupt as it writes it.  Every time it writes a corrupt frame, it beeps.

1600 x600 is fully continuous and the files look good.  For some reason even some lower resolutions corrupt in other aspect rations.  Using a Sandisk Extreme 60 MB/s

Am I the only one getting no preview during recording?
#11
When I load it, the screen displays "Scripts dir missing"  and it seems that every frame is coming out corrupted...  Thanks for all the hard work...

Here's a quick test, wanted to get a glimpse of what skin tones might look like, and try some high detail landscapes.  I did get some pink frames every now and then, but in general, the 41 frames I could shoot at a time went smoothly.  Thanks for all the work developing this, its coming along great.  I can upload some DNGs if that is useful in any way.

Video in the 7D is done not just through line skipping but pixel binning as well according to the release information. This is what is responsible for the grid like pattern. You need the VAF-7D. If either of you were local to SoCal, I'd consider loaning it out to you as I own one.

I do live in SoCal, and was considering purchasing one.  It would be great to test drive one.  How effective is it in the raw files?

I'm noticing a grid pattern in my DNGs...  Anybody else noticing this?

With the new patch you can skip the whole EU part (step 9-12)

How is the patch installed?  Sorry if this has been explained, but I was unable to find the instructions.  Thanks so much.

I never had to "install" 2.8, I just ran it.

Try uninstalling EOS utility completely, then install the version that came with your camera (on your CD), then just run the 2.8 version (dont worry about installing it)

If you still get errors which step do you get the out of memory error?

I tried using the version from the CD that came with my 7d, on a computer that has never has EOS utility before otherwise, and when I select "Camera Settings/Remote Shooting" it still stops and gives me the "Out of Memory" Error...

Am I the only one getting "Out of Memory" errors in EOS Utility?  Is there a fix for that?  Prior to installing 2.8.1 everything worked fine...  Is there a fix for this?  ???
