Wish I knew how to program so that I could make the changes that you suggested, it has the potential of being an incredibly nifty little program that would fit right into my workflow once polished a bit. Still useful though albeit a bit quirky especially the fact that the settings has to be done out of the program.. So thanks kidfob for a nice app and I wish I could help make it mature :) and thanks Ottoga for very constructive testing and well related findings I would never have been able to express it as clearly as you did. :)

Hi,

Has this been updated since release?
#3
+one on this, I'd like to help with any dirty work. Btw I know nothing about coding, but I could maybe help looking for stubs etc once we've got the dump.  :)

Hi there everyone!
I have a thought/request/idea..
Sometimes when out shooting I'm shooting without dual ISO and then I might get into a situation where I need it "quickly" but going into the menu to turn it on often times is not quick enough, just had a thought that it might be possible to set for example the info button as a shortcut key for turning dual ISO on or off when not shooting in live view. Don't really know if this is the right place to put this, but just thought it would be very handy. And I have no knowledge whatsoever in coding etc. so I don't know if it's an easy thing to acomplish or not.
Keep the good work up!  :)

Think this got lost in the heat of discussing DxO ;) .. or maybe I'm the only one thinking it would be useful :)
(Hope I'm not breakin the rules by quoting myself)

He did.

Thanks Walter, that's a nifty add on.
Sorry for my ignorance though.. but I can't work out the focal length and the f value, it's probably staring me right in the face but I can't see it.. :-[

1600/3200 It effectively worked as a Graduated ND filter.

That pic is so nice, I've been tryin to get some star photos lately, but haven't got any good ones so far. Would you share the rest of your settings? f value, Time Value, camera, lens? Would be very thankful!

By the way does 1% need a battery in it? (it's the same as 5D MKII)

I'm ready to send! :) :) :) :) more than ready :)

I can't tell the price now though.. it's 11pm where I am :)
So I'll have to get to know (tomorrow for me) and I need somewhere/someone to send it to too (pm me adress name etc. ?)
I think as well price will depend on how fast we want it to get there.. I mean if fast fast fast priority it'll me more expensive, if just fast less and if just "post" speed the least.. ;) let me know friends.

I think it's different if it's 2nd hand and used (specially if it's slightly broken... ;) ) and if it's sent as a gift, I don't need it back I'd be happy to let 1% keep it (if he think it's worth keepin that is :) )

Gift part already mentioned ...

By the way I'm in Sweden, so just say if it's not worth shippin. Maybe it's better to get a 2nd hand one that's fully functional from US?

I'm in!

I've actually got one that is working but is broken....
the screen is working fine and it's fine takin pictures, but the top screen is not working as should (it fell off the roof of a car while lending it to a friend and I got a new one on the insurance) I'd be real happy to send it if it's good enough and then we only need to pay for shipping..
Let me know what you think friends. I could post some pics of it, maybe worth askin 1% what he would think about it.

Otherwise I'm in for contributin with some cash. :)

Does the problem still happen if you let the camera sleep, THEN turn it off?

Tried your suggestion last nite, and it seems to work fine like that. So last nite I left the camera to go to sleep, then I turned the main power switch off and this morning battery is still full.
Did you try the battery remove/insert Pileot?

Ok so I took some test pics, but not sure if I use it right.. judge and comment :)

@Danne, do you experience any trouble with the Auto ETTR when shooting non live view?
For me it's rather random, sometimes (only sometimes) it works fine, but most of the time it just lights up the LV and state Auto ETTR and then shut down right away without doing any changes... but when shooting in LV it works fine most of the time (sometimes I get rather random results though). I've been trying to search and read up on how to best use the Auto ETTR but haven't found much..

Anyhows here are my test pics all shoot at f/8 straight out from camera (obviously the DUALs have been converted) only added tiny sharpening in LR5. DUAL ISO set to 100/800

First ISO 100 1/100sek

Then a DUAL one exposed for ISO 100 1/83sek

DUAL with Auto ETTR gave me ISO 100 1/41sek (seem to get some blown out highlights but maybe that should be fixed in post?)

Then I tried to make the ISO 100 and the DUAL Auto ETTR to look as similar as possible by changing exposure, pulling down highlights and boosting shadows, tweaked blacks and whites a bit too, everything else untouched. Oh sorry I had to change the white balance too as the colors were way different the DUAL one was a lot warmer (as you can see comparing the first 2 pics), sampled it from the same spot on both.

First out is the ISO 100

Then DUAL Auto ETTR ISO 100/800

Don't know really but almost seems like ISO 100 is coming out on top for the shadows? The DUAL ISO one is more vibrant though, a bit like boosted saturation! BUT maybe I'm using it all wrong? And I did shoot hand held so I know the frame isn't exactly the same (which I find a bit annoying, should have brought my 3pod)

So let me know what you think, tell me if I'm using it completely wrong etc, just shout anything at them :)
CR2s are available if anyone should be interested.

On a side note, imagine if we could have the duals processed in camera :)

I never turn off my camera since my 20D and never got empty battery.
I can confirm that, never turn my 7D off lugging it around in my Lowepro classified 160 AW or my Kata 3N1-20 never had empty battery part from the time I thought I should be good and turn the camera off to save battery.. Ironic isn't it  ;)

Everyone's setup is different, just depends how your bag is set up.

Does the problem still happen if you let the camera sleep, THEN turn it off? Can you confirm if turning the camera off then removing and replacing the battery will prevent any battery drain or is it useless to try?
I'd agree on that, but as I said I've never had issues. (I've got 7D with 17-55 2,8 attached, 70-200 2,8, 50 1,4, 85 1,8, 2x extender, speedlight 580 and 420, 4 extra batteries, speedlight collapsible octabox, 2 chargers, a bunch of cables card reader and a few other extras don't know if this is heavy enough.. :) )

I'll try your take on letting it go to sleep and then turn off tonight, you might want to try with battery remove/insert then we'll know tomorrow if either of them work :)

The reason I was wanting to check is because I'm wondering about the silent picture mode. I know it takes info from the live view and from the search its supposed to make .422 files. When I tried it it made .dng files that I have no idea how to open or process.
I loaded my .dngs into lightroom got a warning that lightroom didn't recognize them, but I could process them fine. Haven't tried any other program.

Is there any I can help to investigate this issue?

I can't really help, but it has happened to me too. But for me I don't know if it's related to the card door (I was told it's not related...) anyhow, if I turn my camera off on the main switch and then leave the camera for the night, then the batteries are drained in the morning. But if I leave the camera to turn off by itself (power save mode usually keep mine on 1 min) then it's fine.
But I noticed yesterday if I have a lens with IS and the IS is turned on and I leave the camera in movie mode, then it keeps the IS motor going constantly...

My conclusion...
Leave the camera in photo mode
Set power save to something that will be convenient for you (1, 2, 5min etc)
Leave the main power switch on at all times

Is it possible to attach photos from googledrive? I've searched for like 3 days on how to post photos, but haven't found anything pointing me clearly in the right direction..
So can I put my photos on my g-drive and then mark them as shared and just copy the link and put inbetween the img tags and the photo will show up on here?

Has happened to me too a few times too.

I've just experienced this with my 7D, slightly different though..
Charged the batteries fully yesterday, did some shooting, turned camera off from main switch left the camera (without opening the card door) this morning no battery.

Just thought I'd let you know.

Usually I never turn the camera off, I just leave it to go off after 2min by it self and I've never experienced this b4 until now when I did turn it off..

Wow A1ex! This is just getting better and better, so thankful for all your hard work. Noticed that the colours are a lot more vibrant with the latest version of cr2hdr too.

Now what I'm aobut to say is just dreaming..  :)
Imagine if we could controll every second line vertically too, wouldn't this make it even more powerfull, or maybe better yet in a bayer pattern with 3 different ISO values like 100, 800, and 1600 just imagining it would bring even more DR to the final image. Now as I said it's just imagination on my side and I don't think it's possible. And maybe it wouldn't even help.. but then again who thought dual ISO would be possible before A1ex revealed it to us. :)

Some more examples of what dual iso can achieve. The shadows pop out like never before. Mostly use interval between 100-1600 and then use ETTR to find exposure settings. Works perfect most of the time.

It's incredible!
Sorry if this is a noob question, but what is ETTR...? I was actually going to ask you how you know what exposure to do before.

@a1ex thanks a thousand for your hard work!!! How can I send you a cookie?  :)

check out my picture of a 100-6400 some posts up. Worked rather well.

First post.. So please bear with me if I seem dumb.
But Danne I'm very impressed with your pictures! Would you like to share how managed to render them? I've been trying for a few days now almost full time to get some good pics out of this Dual ISO function, but always get the horrid pink magenta highlights from cr2hdr and even some green stuff when under exposed, don't know what I'm doing wrong.. Did you use cr2hdr? Or how did you process your images can't wait to get a convenient workflow for this amazing function. And can't thank everyone working with it enough!!
