General Chat / Re: Use dslr (550d) as high res usb camera

Is it because perhaps USB 2.0 cannot handle the bandwidth with full hd?

Or you could use a HDMI media capture card for that.

You can use the sensor as a webcam. You do no need to use ML for this to work. A search on Google could point you in the right direction. I forgot what the application was called. I used to do with the 450D. However it was limited to 720p

Oh wow. Is it time to get a Mac? Hahah

Huh. I was under the impression that firmware changes are like resetting buttons. Where they change back to the default values. Guess I was wrong.

The highest fps for 1920x1080 on my lexar 64 GB 1000x cards was 25fps. Any where above that and I'll get dropped frames.

Do note the larger capacity cards tend to be slower than the 64gb cards

Hmmm going on what you're saying. If you have done a reset to the 1.1.3 firmware and it still can't read any CF cards then it could very well be a hardware issue.

Quick question though. Are the cf cards all readable by other canon cameras/computers?

Is it possible to use a canon camera to format a cf card and try using that formatted card to see if it reads?

When testing your cards is the ML software on them or on the SD card.

Some of these questions might be unrelated but I just felt its good to know if other systems are causing any interference.

I believe they only play the CDNGs and not the .MLV file. Tried searching around but could not find anything usable.

I guess what you can do while waiting is to ensure that your Rawmagic is updated to the latest version and try again?

General Help Q&A / Re: Flawlessly working ML on 5d3
August 02, 2014, 11:58:17 AM
I'd suggest lexar for professional work. They have never failed me. Yet.

It is rather stable now
#13
if im not mistaken Lexar ones can handle continuous, but they are way to expensive.

Hoodman too..
#14
The 64gb versions are more consistent with speed. But I'm not dismissing the 128 gb entirely. 24 fps is possible. Think about the offloading too.
#15
WOAH! This is stunningly good
#17
What about the cf card buffer settings. And if you have an SD card perhaps spanning will help?
#18
Using the same combination but I never get a solid green light. Just a solid yellow. No drop frames though
#19
Get it from the nightly builds thread.

while recording mlv, pressing canon's menu button brings up canon's menu (which is expected) but pressing the menu button again gives me a black screen and the camera just stays that way.. anyone has this too?

what i did...
coming from a 1.1.3 (mar 08 build)
Downloaded the 1.2.3 nightly from http://builds.magiclantern.fm/#/

copied all and pasted to sd card, the camera doesn't start

so i went to canon's website and downloaded the 1.2.3 firmware placed the .fir in the sd card with the old 1.1.3 ml.
camera starts and updated to 1.2.3.. camera won't start with sd card inside, works normally without sd card.

copied bleeding edge items over to sd card.
camera starts

update using the .fir provided (the 40kb one)

``````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````
for anyone who wants to try i guess this is some rough instructions. follow at own risk
1. download the canon 1.2.3 update fir from the official website http://www.usa.canon.com/cusa/professional/products/professional_cameras/digital_slr_cameras/eos_5d_mark_iii#DriversAndSoftware
2. place the 5D300123.fir in to the sd/card that still contains the 1.1.3 ml
3. use canon's menu to update from 1.1.3 to 1.2.3 -  ensure u have enough battery. this takes about 2-3 mins
4. the camera won't start once done, remove battery and wipe card.
5. download the nightly (link above) and place them on the card.
6. the camera should start now and use canon's menu again to update using a1ex's 5D3_123.fir
7. you should get this screen
8. you're done!
camera works perfectly now..gonna test the functions
