I shot a commercial video on my 50D and the camera stopped recording, so I had to restart it.
Now the MLVRAWVIEWER wouldn't open it, so I edited the HEX file and copied the header from another working file and it worked!

Hello guys, I just shot a video with my Canon 50D using a Lexar CF 32GB UDMA 7 with the latest nighty build (magiclantern-Nightly.2015May03.50D109) and I got A LOT of bad frames.
I've been using Tragic_Lantern_for_50D_Andy600Build.2014Feb01.50D109 on the same card for over a year with no issues, but I decided to test out the last nightly to get benefit from the new features.

Is anyone using a stable nighly with the 50D?
I'm gonna try another card to see if results change.

raw2cdng can Batch Convert , give it a try there also a preview in the latest version.
If you edit in Premiere Pro , 16bit Cdng's from raw2cdng are supported .

I sure will. I actually ended up queueing files in MLRAWVIEWER selecting one by one and using the E key.
The results are so much better then MLV converter. Thx again!

I'm using Tragic_Lantern_for_50D_Andy600Build.2014Feb01.50D109 (for a bigger resolution on 16:9 1584x896) on LEXAR 64GB, SANDISK 64GB, SANDISK 16GB and TRANSCEND 32GB UDMA 7 cards with VAF Filter.
I'm recording MLV and converting it to DNG using MLV Converter 1.9.1

I actually solved this using MLRAWVIEWER to extract DNG files instead of ML RAW Converter.
I strongly suggest you all do the same on your PC workflow, since the image results are soooooooo much better

@dogmydog Try lowering the blacklevel to "1024" then adjust your ACR setting in A.E. and or try a different extracting software.
I would use "raw2Cdng" as my recommendation on Pc's--> http://www.phreekz.de/wordpress/2014/04/magiclantern-raw2cdng-1-5-0/
I would use 1.65 as the most stable version, or if you only need DNG's then use MLV_Dump on command line
MlRawViewer 1.3.3 (CDNG/MLV/RAW Viewer & Encoder, Linux/Mac/Win) is also very good to extract DNG's but no Cdng's thou.

@reddeercity Ty SO MUCH! The MlRawViewer 1.3.3 extracted DNG's worked out PERFECTLY!
Don't know what's wrong with my MLV Converter. Not only the green cast is gone, but the image quality is so superior I'm actually thinking about re-extracting all my other MLV files with the Viewer.

does it have an hdmi output? will i avoid overheat issue if i use an external monitor when recording raw?
also, it will stop recording when reaches 4gb ? that's a little over 1 minute?

For those asking about the external monitor:
I've been using my 50D to shoot my web series (www.youtube.com/opostodosexo) since sept/2013 and I use a liliput 669 external monitor connected to it since day one. It works incredibly fine, but I'm not sure if it affects the write speed on CF cards. I also use a battery grip.

The 50D tends to overheat after some minutes of recording, after that if you're recording in h.264 the frame rate will reduce automatically

About the heating, all I can say is that I constantly change batteries and cards between shots and leave the card slot and battery slots open with a dedicated fan just for the camera. The place where we record is really hot, so in the summer we have to be patient, but the camera never failed to deliver suberb results in MLV rec mode.

The flickering pixel relates to the sensor. Raw is clear enough to show just how much one pixel can affect the overall image. A good practice before shooting is to conduct a deep sensor cleaning, about 30 seconds to a minute will aid in "flickering pixels." Some times a 5-minute deep clean is needed to eliminate hot pixels. Though, hot pixels / stuck pixels tend to come back. But you'll find that almost all CMOS sensors have issues with stuck / hot pixels in some way shape or form. If stuck with the footage, I would find an image processor that automatically removes flickering / hot pixels when debayering the Raw images. Adobe Camera Raw automatically removes stuck / flickering pixels when debayering.

...Hope this helps you hone in on quality, usability, and also somewhat of the sensor industry's norm.

It's funny because I always use ACR to CC my shots and then use AE to render out DxHD to Premiere. Shouldn't it have it fixed for me automatically?

Hi everyone, i finally bought a 50d and i'm now using magic lantern for the first time. 

I'm thinking of buying a fast CF card to shoot raw, but i'm not sure which one to buy. Because there are so many mixed reviews on different sizes, speeds and cameras.

-For the 50d how fast does it need to be to shoot raw? 800x?
-Are the komputerbay cards trustworthy?

Get cards at least UDMA 7 or 1000x write speed. I had a defective Transcend 32GB and a 16GB, so i don't recommend that brand (althought it could have been because I was using a USB 2.0 card reader. ALWAYS use a USB 3.0 card reader).
I use Lexar 32GB 1000x and Sandisk 16GB 60mb/s with no issues on 1584x896 23,976 fps.

How are you merging the spanned RAW files? Also, which app are you using to render the DNGs?

The reason I asked is that both have caused me pink frames or torn frames in the past, try without global draw on and see what happens. On the 50D i've seen speed loss and one or two pink frames when recording with GD on, on the 550D every clip with GD on would get screwed up somewhere, so its something to check.

Rename the raw spannned files to .001, .002, in this order, then use FS Joiner Splitter. Then use Andy's raw2dng to process the raw +4GB files.
I had only corrupted frames when tried to process spanned raw files without using this method 1st.

Interestingly, I frequently record with my Lilliput for framing with no problems (although you won't get gray scale preview out the hdmi - doesn't work).

About peaking:  Keep in mind that it mostly depends on what mode you're shooting - most of the time I shoot in crop mode at 1920x960. Even with double buffering and dialog timers off, if I have peaking on, I do not get continuous recording. Global Draw is one of the most taxing processes in ML. I try to use it mostly for pre-record operations.

Recording with Lilliput, MLV, with 2 or 3 pink frames only at start (known issue) and the rest runs smoothly.

Here's a micro short I shot entirely with Raw on the 50D for the Vimeo weekend challenge. I felt a bit creative over the weekend and thought it would be nice to do something other than a test. Very tricky lighting for the camera here but it held out well I think. Overall budget was £2.50 for some candles I bought from ASDA!

Funny we've just been edging on this discussion, I'm glad a few people are talking about it, i'm really hoping we can find some way of improving things.
I too came from the 550d, which made me assume the crop would be centred, I've tried a few builds and like Andy600 says i'm yet to find a way to do it too, and it seems nobody else does.

I wanted a wide angle in crop but alas canon conspire against us. It seems better in 10x though , can anyone offer an explanation about that one? because the recorded area is the same, but I seem to get less vignetting.

But to point out, it is better in crop, but the aliasing is still there in spades, I've shot a river a few days ago in 2000x1080 that looked like a multi coloured mess. Don't think that shooting in crop will give you a IKON or Digital Bolex on the cheap, I've realized that and it was a real bummer on my day.

Well, I don't own a Bolex or BMCC but im very pleased with my 50D raw video.
I don't shoot crop, bought a Mosaic Eng 50D VAF and I'm very pleased with results. Aliasing and moire are almost gone!
