Raw Video / Re: RAW + DUAL ISO video ? how
June 14, 2017, 10:49:32 AM
would love to see some samples of this mode

What is that in terms of speed? 160MBps?
#3
any chance of the new algorithm working with RAW2DNG too?
#4
Are you sure you had the CF card selected.. and not the SD card?
#5
By reversing, do you mean you set the camera's ISO to 6400 and the ML ISO to 200?

Or something in the raw2dng settings?
#6
Yea, that did a very good job of clearing it up. Resized down to 4K (and 2K), it looks pretty much perfect.

The still images are starting to looking really nice... a bit of edge fringing, but usable

yep... I did a rack focus and once the highlights come into focus, it gets a bit messy, but not too bad.

For now, i think protecting the highlights as much as possible is the best way to go, avoiding artefacts.... Then pulling out the deep shadows. Probably not getting quite such a DR boost, but it gives a more usable image.

Starting to get close to a usable settings. This was shot ISO 200-800 .... Exposure was pretty centred, to avoid too much highlight aliasing. Click for 1080p

To me, it seems better to have less artifacts, even if the highlights are softer.

100% Agreed.

Softer images, i can work with. Noticeable artefacts are a no go.

This is about as good as i can get it. I was working between ISO 400 and 1600.... Exposed heavily to the right (I tried about 10 exposures, this was best). Some pretty heavy colour moire and stair stepping in the highlights... But the mids and shadows are pretty good.

(EDIT) Was my firewall.

Words fail me.... Amazing.

Look forward to testing this out

General Chat / Re: Any UI help needed?
July 08, 2013, 11:33:56 PM
As with most creatives.... I'm a bit slow with the technical stuff. So alot of that went over my head  :D

All I mean is that if you ever want to make the thing look a bit more polished, like the Canon UI or an iPhone app style... I could help out by providing graphics, icons, a style sheet etc.... in psd, png, vector files, whatever the system can take.

The current UI is fine, for me.... It does what is required, but some people really respond to a slick UI.

Just a thought...

General Chat / Any UI help needed?

Hi ML team.

Just wanted to put it out there them I am a UI designer, so if you ever need help with the graphical side of things, just hit me up. I spend most of my day designing for iphone, Android and other small screen apps, so the DSLR screens should be easy enough. I would work for free, of course.

I'm sure you are plenty busy on other stuff, but maybe once the dust settles, we could work on making ML even smoother.

All the best, Jay.

Raw Video / Re: Raw and Highlight Tone Priority

The more i read about it, the more useless it sounds, in Raw. So i will discontinue the HTP testing, for now.

If you guys want me to test anything though, just shout. I'm amazed what you guys have done with ML, truly amazed and thankful.

I was thinking the same.... I was using BATCHelor for the first time, so maybe it does things differently in terms of name/date.

I'll redo the test again with a clipboard shortly.

Raw Video / Raw and Highlight Tone Priority
July 07, 2013, 09:24:15 PM
I know we are supposed to switch this off, to get better speed... But i can shoot 1080p continuous with this on, for thought I would run a few tests with it.

I shot this exposed for the highlights, then tried the same with HTP on. I certainly helps bring the shadows up, without too much noise. As you can see on the bottom two grades.... Bringing the shadows up further shows the HTP disabled has more noise.

The highlights with HTP on seem to have blown a bit, which makes the whole thing a bit pointless, but perhaps with a bit more testing i can find a nice middle ground.

And lose multi core rendering.

Well worth it though, for certain shots that really need that extra little boost. My pc still handles it pretty well, and it is by no means the fastest system.

Yep, definitely possible.

I can use HDR mode in 1920x1080/24p continuous and 1080/60p for about 300 frames.

I've been playing around all day today with raw hdr mode.

If you want to avoid blending the files... What you can try is bringing both sequences into AE (put dark and light DNGs into seperate folders, then import as sequence), line them up (dark on top)... Then adjust the opacity of the dark clip to about 30%... Add an adjustment layer above the two clips and add the Shadow/Highlights plugin... Set the plugin to blend 50%.

I find this gives a really nice, really natural looking video with huge DR... that you can then start grading.

due to ghosting, this only really works in 60p mode

If you want a really fast way to get the HDR/Tone mapped look.... Just apply the highlights/shadows plug in, in After Effects. The preset values look very HDR like.
