Camera-specific Development / Re: Canon 60D

Hi Walter,
1 - I never had problem to install Picturestyle before.
2 - I don't have a old EOS utility version (maybe you?)
3 - With last EOS I can install Cinestyle (and any other desired picture style) only on M (manual). When I switch to Camera this set up is disabled.
So, When I fire up the camera on M (manual , EXPO,  I can see (or choose) : Picturestyle > Cinestyle... but if I switch to Camera mode, EXPO, I can see UserDef1...

Usually, this problem occurs after clearing Canon settings, because you have to reinstall picture styles and it's not obvious that you also have to register them for movie mode.

How you can see, the option to insert a picture style on movie menù is not available...

Remove battery. Insert battery. Reset camera settings to factory default. Shut down cam. Remove battery. Insert battery. Restart cam. Try to install a single custom picture set. Retry function in ML and Canon menu and report back results.

Thanks Walter, I followed exactly all step you suggested  but no way...

Now I read the link from a1ex hoping find a solution

Clarification, please:

- Are those picture styles visible in Canon menu now? YES
- Are those picture styles visible in ML Expo tab now? Both video and photo mode? NO
- Are you able to change picture styles in Canon menu? Both video and photo mode? NO, only in photo mode.
- Are you able to change picture styles in ML Expo tab? Both video and photo mode? NO, only in photo mode.

please help, tommorrow I have to shot and I didn't meet this problems before...

Hi Audionut,
in your link, FINALLY, we can simply and rightly understand how Histogram (and ETTR) works. Great!

Many thanks for all reply, of course.   ;D

Okay garry, now you are in focus about the argument!

But sorry, you have repeated the same words I used... :-[

1 - you start to exposure on right increasing aperture (for video). Than ETTR histogram shows all three R G B  increasing their dimension till a full circle: this should be the correct/suggested ETTR exposure.
2 -if you increase more your exposure, R G B full circles show a number inside,  circles show a number to them, which means that you're in overexposure, quantifying every single overexposure value inside every single RGB channel in EV +1, +2... so + 1 stop, + 2 stop...

So, I think, I can push up exposure till the three circles, first, become VISIBLE, and second, when they are BIG, I reach the maximum right exposure available, before clipping. That's all!
A many cases, you can push up just  a little more right exposure... to work with in in post. In this cases, inside the BIG circles (RGB channel) appear numbers, which minds +1 EV stop, +2 EV stop,...  in over exposition.
I don't see any others meaning about it... :-[

I already read this page, of course...!
It is not so clear about what I asked, and sincerely, I'm not surprise now, cause nobody still can not answer to my very elementary questions... :-\
Anyway thanks for your reply!

Hi garry,
many thanks for your reply, but I asked something really different... ::)

Theywere two simple questions, only to know if I've rightly understand the meaning of RGB circles. Sorry, but maybe I have to repeat me:

1 - you start to exposure on right increasing aperture (for video). Than ETTR histogram shows all three R G B  increasing their dimension till a full circle: this should be the correct/suggested ETTR exposure.
2 -if you increase more your exposure, R G B full circles show a number inside,  circles show a number to them, which means that you're in overexposure, quantifying every single overexposure value inside every single RGB channel in EV +1, +2... so + 1 stop, + 2 stop...

Anyway, I doesn't touch change  ISO I decided to use (always as low as possible) and I stay always on 180 shutter degree rule, apply any temporal FX in post. The only parameter I change to exposure is Aperture.

I mean, right now I'm starting to understand how exposure in ETTR with ML to capture more Dynamic Range as possible for post. No way (and no time...  :-[) in this moment to experiment.

I'll visit ypur blog, of course and again, thanks for your reply, but sorry, I asked something other...  ???

Anybody use ETTR...? :o
#16
Ah, okay, all right, but I meant inside ML menu. Anyway, you have to switch on Canon menu, to set up them (resolution and frame rate). I think could be great to set up all setting in a single menu....
::)

Anyway thanks!
#17
Hi guys,
I didn't find a way to display video resolution and frame rate on ML menu.
When you take your camera to start a shooting session, you have to go on Canon menu, set up resolution and frame rate and then, switch to ML menu to make further setup. This can be, IS, not so great!
There is a way to show directly on ML menu this infos, as well as all the other shooting setup (White balance, ISO, Shutter, Aperture...)? Why not? :-\ :o

Many thanks for a reply!

Shoot Preparation / ETTR for raw and video
July 22, 2015, 03:04:58 PM
Hi guys,
I still have some doubts about setup ETTR before shooting VIDEO.

1 - I noticed ML displays ETTR histogram even if I'm not filming in RAW and I didn't load any modules. Of course in EXPO menu there was any ETTR control. Something is wrong or I can use ETTR histogram reference to exposure my video NOT in RAW?

2 - In ML instructions page, they suggest to load ETTR Modules. If you load it, appears on EXPO menu but as "Auto ETTR"... so, which is the difference between ETTR already present as histogram displayed on monitor and the "Auto ETTR" module loaded? And why Auto ETTR module is suggested for RAW? For normal camera video format it doesn't care?

Sorry, I am little confused...  :-\

Okay v,
thx for your reply.
So, If I have rightly understand:
1 - you start to exposure on right increasing aperture (for video). Than ETTR histogram shows all three R G B  increasing their dimension till a full circle: this should be the correct/suggested ETTR exposure.
2 -if you increase more your exposure, R G B full circles show a number inside,  circles show a number to them, which means that you're in overexposure, quantifying every single overexposure value inside every single RGB channel in EV +1, +2... so + 1 stop, + 2 stop...
Am I right? ??? ??? ??? ???

Shoot Preparation / Understanding ETTR diagram
July 22, 2015, 12:26:36 PM
Hi guys,
I'm starting to use ETTR exposure methid on my canon 60D.
I'd like only to understanding ETTR diagram displayed on monitor. Sometime the the RGB balls become bigger/smaller...  ???and sometime compare number inside these balls...  :o
What does it mean?
I didn't find this explanations on web, but tons and tons disputes and quarrels on use or not use ETTR  :D :D :D

Many, many thnaks for a reply!

Raw Video / Re: 60D RAW video - it's working !!!
February 28, 2014, 06:28:40 AM
Hallo everybody,
I've a Canon 60D and I installed a new 15 feb 1024 NB on ML 2.3.
I noted if i shot on 1280*528, aspect ratio 16:9, the ML crops image!
But if I turn RAW video resolution to 1920*1080 (to use the entire image I can see on display... the ML shoots always in 1280*528(720) - (canon 60D cannot shoot more than this resolution) - but I can use all my lens  in theirs entire dimension.
Anyway, I can't understand why ML crop image... in any camera, if i change resolution, for example from 1080 to 720, it doesn't crop image!
