I love my Zacuto EFV and loupe. The 5D3 LCD sucks! The only way to get any real juice off the screen is to use the Zacuto.

Are you suggesting a loupe with the 5d3 would not be good? as mentioned the loupe is not an EVF in itself.

I wonder if the EVF attachment would be cumbersome.

also looks like if I did something like this, I would need it to work with a grip

I'm going to talk myself into a Sony A7R sooner than I think... hah

General Chat / Zacuto Z-finder Loupe + Focus Peaking

I used my manual focus lens and ML's focus peaking to a great extent on friday night and I'm happy with the results.

I wonder whether the Zacuto Z-finder Loupe would help even more? I do actually wish I had an EVF like the Sony A7R.

Has anyone feedback about using the loupe?

cheers

heh, I see.

What's the CA like on the 85?  The Sigma 85/1.4 is reasonably bad @ 1.4.  And I haven't found a nice workflow to remove it, without effecting other areas of the image.

Can't remember anything significant - it's been a while since I used the 85mm outside, lately it's been my 'home studio' lens. Using 135mm f/2 and 35mm f/1.4 outside more.

The only time I've had, what I would consider 'bad CA' with any of my lenses is shooting into the sun through tree branches.

Nice work.  I can only dream to manually focus at 1.2  ;)

Thanks, but I think perhaps a misunderstanding.

The 1.2 I'm using, 85mm 1.2 II L, is AF.

It's the 35mm 1.4 I have which is MF.

the wedding, my first wedding, is for the bride aboves maid of honour.

thanks for the informative post, certainly something to think about!

I was just looking through some of my shots to see what apertures I actually used.

1.2/1.4

I've got my 'first' (and possibly only) wedding in October.

I'm looking at ways Magic Lantern can help me, I'd love advice on any of these things - I'd like to practice.

5d mark III body.

The bride likes my photos, she asked me to photograph her wedding - a lot of stuff of mine has been f1.2 - one slight problem is that it seems a hell of a risk to shoot a wedding for real @ 1.2 - so I'm thinking aperture bracketing! f1.2 / f2.5 maybe?

I have a Carl Zeiss 35mm 1.4 lens, manual focus only - so I'm pretty glad for focus peaking or LV sharpening. Also the magic zoom with split prism - nice touch!

I've been playing with ETTR and Dual ISO today - these could come in very handy I suppose, I do get worried about the Dual ISO output though! doesn't exactly look good on camera.. I suppose the more I play the more I learn to trust it.

So is there anything else I should look at, or advice on the above?

thanks

What did you sell your 5Dm2 for?

To upgrade! more iso, silent shutter, better AF - mk3!

I forgot to say :)

Thanks for this!!

I missed it having sold my 5dm2.. I'd be eagerly waiting for it, since I have a MF lens which benefits from it greatly. This software is a joy!

thanks

Can you upload your ML/SETTINGS directory and describe the steps to reproduce?

Sorry, I had deleted the ML directory - in an effort to get my camera stable again. I only touched the first three options in the menu with global layers, zebra and focus peaking. Also I had visual glitches from the beginning, when in the menus there was something overlapping the bottom section

I have actually found now, after reextracting ML to my CF and leaving the SD card out - it seems to be a lot better. Before I had many visual glitches in the menus. Now it seems to be working consistently.

Could it be related to using two cards? can't get the camera to boot with SD card in at the moment after having deleted the dir.

-- edit I put ML back on the SD, inserted it - still running smoothly. Formatted in the SD in camera (remove ML) - still all working ok

I was trying to use liveview with focus peaking and zebras.

It worked once, but every other time it crashed - gave me an error with I entered liveview mode.

Or in liveview I pressed 'info' to switch views, and it would lock.

Also had missing file message on boot up - about to try again loading from SD.

Here's a zip of logs I took from the card
https://www.dropbox.com/s/21luj8q67wcuslx/5dm3_errors.zip

Does this help? sorry if this isn't the place to do this :)

I tried to install from the SD instead (32gb instead of 64gb cf) - still crashes when trying to get things to work in liveview.
