That's nice! What lens/lenses did you shoot this with?

I'll check it out, thank you very much!

Does anybody have experience with the VAF-5D2B?

Aliasing and moire and just false detail in general is really holding back some of the deep focus stuff I like doing, but at the same time I also like shooting with wide lenses and I know that was an issue with the original model which they say they have fixed in the "B" revision. I'd really like to hear from somone who has shot with it, especially in RAW as I don't know at this point if I should sink more money into the MKII or save up for the MKIII

DR and heavy grade test on Jun26 build. NOT a test for overall IQ but just seeing how much you can pull back in extreme conditions. Pretty impressive how much it holds on to in the highlights.

Series of random shots from downtown Reykjavík at sundown.

Designed as nothing else but a test for the Canon 5D MKII RAW video mode.

This is NOT an absolute technical test by any means. It's shot with an off-axis 24mm f/1.8 and a thousand year old 400mm Vivitar lens. Neither great optically or technically. Also some of the stuff doesn't even have sharp focus.

What I was looking for was high contrast situation with really rough highlights and how much information you could pull back under heavy grading.

It's sharp but not dramatically so and you really do need a VAF filter since moiré and aliasing as bad or even worse than in the standard shooting mode.

dynamic range and IQ are however dramatically improved overall and it's quite amazing how much detail you can pull back as long as you try to expose to the right right at the limit of blowing the highlights.

Lovely footage! Love the weirdness of that lens.

I'm having a hell of a hard time finding a vendor to ship me a 1000x Komputerbay card to Iceland. What kind of success have you guys been getting with 2.35 cropped 1880p footage on slower cards, if any?

Raw Video / Komputerbay - Shipping to europe

Hey!

I need to buy a 1000x card and want to try the Komputerbay route but I'm having a hard time finding a vendor that ships to europe (Iceland to be exact), where have you Scandinavians been getting your cards shipped from?

Has anybody been shooting charts with the 50D? I'd be interested in seeing how it compares to the 5D MKII and other RAW Canons(or the Sony FS series or similar 1080p camcorders)  in actual lines of resolution and stops of DR.

Thanks so much for the replies guys! I'm leaning towards your advice to get a 50D and see if I can muster up the cash for a MKIII down the road.

To be sure, are there any good DNG sequences from relatively new build from the 50D I can download and play with?

Hey everybody

Been following this thread as well as many others in the RAW development realm for the last couple of weeks and I feel that it is now time to finally pick up a camera to shoot with. I didn't feel like I should start a new topic and that probably you guys here could provide a few pointers.

I'm coming from a hacked GH2, which I love dearly for sharpness and fidelity but I can't really pass up the opportunity to shoot 14 bit RAW. My options right now are either a 50D or a MKII. Where I am a used MKII is 2.5 the price of a used 50D. But let's forget price for a second.

From what I've seen the two cameras seem fairly evenly matched on paper with regards to how they handle RAW video but from what I've seen the MKII footage seems to both have more resolution and higher dynamic range. I'm wondering if that is really so or if the image fidelity is simply superior? Also there seems to be quite a bit of false detail and edge sharpening in a lot of the 50D footage, is that something that feels baked into the footage or are people just dialing the sharpness too high in ACR?

Mostly I'm just wandering what people in the know are generally feeling with regards to overall quality of the RAW recording between these two cameras not counting inherent trades like sensor size and ISO performance.

Many, many thanks for all your hard work!
