So after a couple of months...without using any ML at all in my 5D M2, I decided to give it a try once again.

So I installed ML into an old card, then I did the same in the two 16gb 1000x lexars and...trying, again and again, pulling out battery, trying to update firmware , etc...It worked.

But I have some issues.

1.-Takes long to boot sometimes, perhaps 3 to 4 seconds...sometimes is faster than that
2.-Sometimes the mirror stays up and locks so I have to take battery out
3.-I can take photos and then suddenly, I goes crazy, the mirror goes up and down so fast as if it were taking photos real fast
4.-Last time, I turned of and the lcd display stayed on...until I removed the battery.

Its annoying since, its not reliable, even when must of the time I can use it without problem...

When using an 800X lexar, nothing happens, everything is just fine..

If anyone has an idea of what prolem is causing this, I would appreciate your help, ML has been a great tool in my 5D M2

I have a similar issue. I had ML installed in a 16gb 1000x card, once day it gave me problems, after weeks it no longer recognised the card. I bought a new 16gb lexar 1000x card but the same, it won eve let me use it.

But if I use an 800x 8gb lexar it works without problems...

I think I have the same problem as you or almost the same.

I posted my case in other category and perhaps I should have started here.

Some months ago I was using ML in my 5D M2 with one of the builds of july and august (cant remember which mont)to shoot a short film in raw. Almost to finish the project one day Magic Lantern disappeared from a Komputer Bay 1000x 32 GB card. And also it didnt wanted to start in my 16GB Lexar.
Since that day, the komputer bay never came to life again in my 5D but it did in other cameras such as a rebel.

Then my Lexar 16gb card started to work fine again, but then started to behave funny, some times it booted, other times it didnt , in some period it could take time to start up. So I though of a card corruption.

The 5D works perfect without card, and with other cards also works great.

So I decided a couple of weeks ago to buy two other lexar cards, a new 16gb 1000X and a 8GB 800X.

To my surprise, (without ML) the camera can boot fine with the 8gb 800X but with the new 16gb lexar card it just cant.

I decided to disable the booflag installing ML and switching the dial. Then I insert the 16gb Lexar 1000x and it does make the camera start but only the top lcd display, it does focus , change speed, iris, etc...but I cant see the menu in the display or press to shoot.

If I enable the bootflag, the camera wont start with that card, only if I let it sit some minutes connected to the mac it comes to life, but is not stable, it turns off or acts funny.

I tried removing the silver battery, downgrading and upgrading canon firmware, etc...but nothing....

Any ideas in how to solve this thing?...

Last year I installed magic lantern in a Lexar 1000x 16GB and in a 32GB komputerbay 1000x. Everything was ok shooting RAW until one day, something happened, magic lantern disappeared from the komputerbay card, and in my lexar card started to give some problems when booting. Then everything worked fine after some hours.

But since then, I have been having troubles with the 16GB lexar card, sometimes was able to boot with it and others didnt so it became unstable. I decided to erase ML and go for h264 only in video. But also I had some problems with other cards, some works like a champ, and others cant be recognized. A 133x Sony card works well for example. But the 16 gb lexar never came to life again.

So last week I bought in amazon two lexars. An 8GB 800X lexar and a 16gb 1000X lexar...I thought that it could be some card corruption. But this is what happened.

Lexar 8GB 800x started just fine.


The brand new Lexar 16GB 1000x didnt boot the camera...it even didnt blink.

Anyone has an Idea of what kind of demon has got in to my 5D?.....

UPDATE FOR THIS
After reading some posts, I installed ML in the sony card, then I disabled the boot flag , the camera does start with the lexar 16gb card but only shows information in the top display, it doesn't let me use menus or shoot, it does let me focus and change shutter speed or iris...but thats it, no blink, no menu display...

I just wanted to thank Alex and AD, I´m not an expert , so I have been a passive member of the forum. In this case I will only express my support to them and if there is any way to donate to keep you working on this, let me know. Many of us would love to help or donate.

In my case, your work has helped me to shoot in the best way possible my first short film after 14 years since the last one I did when I was in school ,and recently a commercial using green screen.

So, thanks guys...I will try to report bugs in a helpful way the next time I post.

Hi guys...something funny also happened to me with my kOMPUTERBAY 32gb 1000x Card some weeks ago. It suddenly died, didnt work but I was able to mount it in my MacBook Pro, also I used an old rebel camera my mother has an it was fine, only in my 5DM2 I couldnt use it.

I was in a hurry to finish the lasagna but couldn´t wait to try ML RAW in my 5D M2...so I did my first test, takes time to work with the DNG files but RAW its just a gift from the GODS...

Magic Lantern...I will remember that name forever.

To me, there are two shots that tell me everything about what to expect from the 5D...

1.-The shot of the SUV on the road where you can see it coming from left to right
2.-The bathroom scene

What lenses did you use?...and all the info you provided is great as it comes from a real job.

I´ve been doing some tests with my 5D, I´m used to a fast workflow when doing corporate and commercial productions, but shooting RAW, its like finding the girl of your dreams...every minute spent on it its totally worthy

Great!, that is so great. I shot a video at 1880x756 with a previous build and got an average of 600 frames using a lexar 1000x 16g.
I should try your way..if it works for me too, I will be so happy...I hope that by the end of June there will be a more stable and practical way to shoot raw in the 5Dm2, I'm shooting a short film this month and I'm considering to go RAW, the workflow is so complicated but every minute invested is totally worthy.
