Could you post a sample from that file? I filmed the moon and I think if exposed correctly it will also work. It did in my case.

I've had strong flickering issues when using dual iso on the 5D3. I did try using Switch, as recommended by Danne, but the resulting files still had flickering. I should note that I was filming the full moon when it was high in the sky (very bright!), so when exposing for the moon (ISO 100), the rest of the shot (city buildings) was underexposed by at least 3 or 4 stops at ISO 1600.

In another thread a1ex hints that dual iso is not ideal in very underexposed shots (https://www.magiclantern.fm/forum/index.php?topic=24216.0).

beba, this looks like rolling shutter. Try using (1) a tripod, (2) a wider lens, or (3) a gimbal. You will have a hard time getting stable footage when shooting handheld while walking.

Very exciting! I'm no expert, but since these DIGIC 7 cameras all have UHS-I controllers (I think?), then the bottleneck will probably be write speed. However, this could be quite a valuable finding when it comes to cameras that support UHS-II.

Have you tried pressing the Menu button to cycle into and out of the Menu? It can sometimes refresh things to get the preview to work.

You can definitely see some aliasing with closely-spaced vertical lines. If you look at the window frames of the buildings in the mid-ground of the first shot, you can see the vertical lines shifting left/right between pixels. It's not really noticeable in the second shot. Last shot has aliasing on the goal posts in the top background and moire on the white fence in the middle of the frame. You could test out the same shots with a tripod, and I bet it would look much better!

Seems like an issue on your end. It looks pretty good to me. The fluorescent lights are clipped, but everything else looks great. If it's yellow, maybe you have Night Shift on your display?

It might be a good time to revive the conversation about c-mount lenses. There are some older threads on the topic, but there isn't much info on which lenses are (1) reasonably sharp, (2) compatible without modification, and (3) wide enough to use in 2.5k crop mode. If the lens is wide enough, the lack of IS will be less of an issue.

Otherwise, I'd recommend a Tokina 11-16 f2.8 (occasionally found used for around $200) with a speedbooster. This combo is heavy, but the higher inertia should help with handheld stability.

Are the flickering issues generally more pronounced with heavily underexposed shadows? I've got a telephoto shot of the full moon (well above the horizon, so very bright!) with some relatively dim buildings in the foreground. With 5D3 dual-iso at 100/1600, exposed for the moon at 100, I get crazy flickering with both MLV App and Switch. I've confirmed with exiftool the the black and white levels are constant. Besides the flickering, the individual processed DNGs look amazing!

You can try "Switch". Uses a1ex updated cr2hdr code.

Thanks Danne! Switch worked. I was able to salvage some good shots that I otherwise would have deleted.

I've been successfully using Danne's builds since earlier this summer (awesome work!), and I just started testing out dual iso raw video. I feel like I'm doing something wrong because I'm getting weird colors, lines, and regions of cyan. For the frame below, I used the 3K preset with the following settings:

Aug. 14 build (1.2.3)
2560x1440
16x9 AR
10-bit
Histogram and zebras enabled
Dual-iso enabled at 100/800
Slightly underexposed from ETTR
Dual-iso ON in MLV App

I also tried an earlier build and had the same issue. Any idea what I'm missing?

Looks very clean! Can you share what ML build and menu settings you used? Did you use 4K anamorphic + dual iso?

When I recently tried to use dual iso, the live view screen has wide horizontal color bands (maybe this is normal...not a big deal). Then in MLV App, with dual-iso turned on, the footage looks pixelated/low-res with posterized colors (i.e. as if the image is made from only a few colors). Sometimes it looks normal in MLV App, but it will still output with bad colors and low res.

Can rack focus be used with raw video? I can set the endpoints and preview the focus change in liveview, but I'm not sure how to activate it after starting to record.

It might not totally answer your question, but if you haven't already done so, try changing the video system from NTSC to PAL in the Canon menu.

Try changing "Video system" from NTSC to PAL. Setting is located in Canon menu.

I'm finally trying out the new crop_rec advancemens introduced earlier this year, but I can't seem to set the 1920x960 @50fps mode.

I'm running firmware 1.2.3 with the 12.19.2017 build. I've set the video mode to 1280/60p in the Canon menu, and enabled the crop_rec and mlv_lite modules. Crop mode in ML is set at 1920 50/60, but I can't set the resolution above 1920x800. Changing the aspect ratio and FPS override have no effect. I must be missing something simple and would appreciate any help...

FYI, FPS override changes the number of images per second, not the resolution.

Yes, I understand. I guess my last post wasn't clear. By shooting at a lower FPS, I meant that the write speed should not be an issue.

I think I found an answer here. It looks like 2144x1076 may be the maximum live view resolution on the 5D2, whereas the 5D3 is capable of 3.5K.

What is the maximum resolution in crop mode for the 5D2? I've read that it's 2144x1076, but is it possible to go any higher when using FPS override at 1 fps (e.g. for time lapse)?

This doesn't answer your question, but I'm curious: Is there any reason to keep the both the RAW file and DNG frames? The RAW file is just a container for the DNG's, correct?

albert-e, it's exciting to read about your results, but wasn't it discussed earlier that the camera is not using IDE protocols? Do you have plans for a work-around?

For max portability without a laptop, you can buy a device like aaphotog recommended (e.g. Hyperdrive).

I'm planning to use a Nexus tablet with a USB hub to transfer between CF and USB hard drive. It's a cheap solution, but the downside is that most if not all Android devices are USB 2.0, meaning slow transfer speeds... Not so great when transferring raw video files. This will be a viable option once USB 3.0 becomes more common.
