Is there any way for me to get the 5diii to keep from powering off? It will go about 30min and then auto power off.

Application: I'm using this as a broadcast camera for a live production and would prefer it just remain powered on until I turn it off (manually).

Thanks for the response.

I tried the idea of playing with the saturation and still wasn't able to get things quite right. I'll keep working on it and let you know...

I've been using my SL1 as a 2nd camera in a live event setting. Basically I boot ML, disable the display on the output and send signal via HDMI. Its a great and cheap live camera except for one issue. The highlights are way overblown. I've attached an image from the SL1 (its the ugly one) and then another from my xh-a1 camera. These are taken from a live stream which has been further compressed so the issue is magnified.

I would love suggestions for correcting the overblown highlights in a live-event setting like this. If there's already a thread please feel free to redirect me.

I have already tried using color correction in my video swither but had no luck. Perhaps that's because of my lack of skills... Either way here was an attempt at correct the problem on the switcher, but it seemed to not really help...

thanks for taking the time to read this, and possibly help!

@chilimac02 ... Perhaps you haven't tried either MLP or MLVFS yet?

If you had done so then you probably wouldn't have noticed or heard of those pesky Focus Pixels or even their existence according to @dfort's infamous fabulous script! [emoji6]

As it turns out my problem was my workflow. I exported video from mlvfs then pulled it into adobe premiere. There it imported video with weird artifacts. I solved the problem by importing the footage into after effects.... For some reason that solved it....

I can get my 100d to record 720p raw video just about non-stop with my sandisk extreme pro memory card. My problem is that I don't understand how to use that video because of the focus pixel issue. I cannot understand a workflow to get that stuff to look right in adobe CC

Quick question - thought I had seen something about an update that was done to the October version. The link on the front post is still to the October version though - so I'm guessing I was wrong. Any updates?

What's the purpose of the bitrate higher than 1.0x from normal with h.264?
I want to know also

awww yeah. I put ML on my camera yesterday and its been like a whole new world. I've been waiting on this a long time, since i bought one of the first 100d cameras. Thanks for the hard work. I'll start reporting bugs when I get more time to catalog things.

This would be truly awesome!

Dang just when I was gonna sell this Thang. Now maybe I wait

I think we are back to no developers on this. Just an informational announcement.
#12
That is correct - some developers have the firmware from the camera (the firmware is what is "dumped"). They will be working (in their own free time, out of the kindness of their heart) on getting ML to load and work on the SL1. If I were you I would not count on this happening for some time - if ever. If you really want a camera that ML works with, get one that already supports ML.

On the other side of the discussion, I do like the touch-screen, but it isn't a deal breaker for me. I have bought and sold several 50D cameras. The menu system on the 50D was just as easy to use with a dial as the touch screen is on the SL1.
#13
Sweet! I have no coding skills, but if you need any more work hands on with camera let me know.
#14
It dumped and I sent the results to a few of you via PM. It's a 32MB file, so I hope that's what you are looking for.
#15
I sent some of you a PM about the firmware. Let me know how that looks.

This one isn't happening guys. Unless someone with the ability and the camera and the time/desire to do it comes along - this project is a no go.

mlv_play is back in the nightly builds, as of the latest nightly (magiclantern-Nightly.2014May22.50D109.zip).

I don't see it, I see 5/21 available in the download section...

Hey guys. I bought a used 50d so I could play around with RAW video (my SL1 doesn't have ML available). I've got RAW video working and it looks great (latest nightly)...

My question is, where in the menu do you change the frame size/aspect ratio? I was hoping to play around with wide-screen stuff, and also just shoot at 720p. The default setting looks great but I'm wondering if I can change it in the menu somewhere and being a noob just can't find it.

thanks,
Justin

Luigi thanks for your work. I'm in no hurry as I too love the focus ability of this little guy. I thought of switching, but decided against it mostly because the SL1 resale value dropped way off compared to the t5i (700D). I also thought long and hard about getting a "better" camera and decided that the 70D was really the only option because of support for STM lenses (in video). The STM lenses focus so silently compared to other "silent" lenses that I'll continue using the lesser quality STM for video fun. Of course I prefer other options for photos.

All in all, thanks for what you are doing! If it ever comes to something where you want someone to try it, let me know. I play with my camera taking videos and pics of my kids and dog several times a week.

I've been watching this like a fat kid in a candy store with no money watches for loose change. For some reason I have an incredible sense of excitement about recording RAW video. Hopefully it will happen.

well if ML ever arrives on the 70d - I'm going for it.

crap i may sell this and get a t5i

By the way... Is there any form of programming the without risking to brick the camera?

These sorts of things seem scary, yes. I've used custom firmwares with many other devices, even another canon camera. There is always a risk of the brick... but I've actually only had it happen once, and was able to repair it. There is a reason for detailed instructions being posted with the software. If you don't follow the instructions exactly then you may get bad results. Of course, since there are so many people using ML, you would assume that most are happy with the results!

When there is an "alpha" build for us to test and give feedback on, will it be posted in this forum, or in the nightly build section?
