You can do it in AE. Check: http://www.kenrockwell.com/canon/lenses/16-35mm-ii.htm Ken Rockwell maps the lenses he reviews. Then apply adjustment layer on top in comp, and add Lens Distortion filter. Then put Ken Rockwells numbers in. (I think the filter is called that or optics something) You can do almost the same in Magic Bullet Looks. But the easiest would me to import into AE using ACR and choose the right lens!

General Help Q&A / 5D2 problem Err 06

Edit: sorry unrelated post

Hello, I tested a free app called AJA Datacalc, with it you can calculate:

- how much space a movie clip with a chosen codec takes,
- how much time you can record in a chosen codec for a given space.

Very handy!

If the newbies have a 1 month waiting period and are provided with a nice welcome letter with a How to: beginners guide and important links, then they could learn a bit before they write another how to question.

Or maby a quiz,

1. Do you use PP with raw?
2. Is it possible to shoot 8K with raw?
3. What is cdng?
4. What is nightly builds?

And so on, when registering a new account!

This might not be the place to discuss this but would it be time for a newbie area on ML forum? A moderator that throw all these questions in there in a more aggressive way? (Of course some newly registered have questions and comments that are interesting and toughtful)

I have not posted a lot but have been around reading and testing for a long time. However if I read one more question about for instance what picture profile to use with raw I will explode. The forum gets more and more hard to use and find interesting user findings and tips and tricks for every day almost.

Btw really appreciate the time and effort you have but in making your guides RenatoPhoto, they are great summaries of hundreds of pages discussions!

I Agree with Midphase!

Bottom line, we are all beginners in the beginning, and have thousands of questions. There are a lot of new users and chances are the question have probably been answered at least ten times before. You will find them if you actually search for them in the topics and do your homework. Chances are you will also learn a few tips and tricks along the way! Tricks you didn't knew you would need but in the end saved your shot :)

General Help Q&A / Help! My Raw video are bad quality
November 02, 2013, 01:10:26 AM
You really need to treat the 4:4:4 with the respect it deserves. 4:2:0 H.264 is by no means a bad format used under the right conditions and knowing its limitations.

In this case, I'm sorry but with your statement about gh2 kicking raw arse just implies you don't actually understand the potential of raw data and how to utilise it.

Nice description, thanks! During your shooting and post-productions have you stumbled across any do's and don's that you would like to share? Always nice with tips from people who actually used ML extensively in field :)

Feature Requests / Lock 180 and 90 Degree Shutter.
October 18, 2013, 10:58:57 PM
Actually when I think about it, it could be much simpler than locking down the shutter speed.

I have the shutter speed at my finger and aparture at my thumb wheel. Imagine that if I shoot with 25fps. The shutter speed 1/50s could instead show 180deg or something. And when I turn the dial to say 1/80s it would read 220deg instead or whatever degree it would be? A simple mode change to show shutter angle instead if shutter speed!? That would work for me for sure! There are som many variables for a shot anyway so a lockdown would really not contribute to anything! In my opinion.

This would then only need a shutter speed/degree calculation?

Edit: sorry Hjfilmspeed already pointed this out and I agree with that!

On my external cine light-meter you set FPS (25 fps), shutter angle (180 deg). Then you adjust the ISO or aperture.

Having issues with 2013-09-19 version for 5D mark III. Sometimes camera locks up and getting unresponsive. Even when turning of camera the live view stays on. Solution is to pull the battery. How can I check log to properly report problem?

I can recommend Genustech Variable ND filter Eclipse. Affordable and easy to use (usable from 0-80% maby, then the X thing shows up) buy the size diameter that fits your biggest diameter lens and then step up rings for your smaller diameter size lenses.

I have been testing and following the raw development since start, and must say, about time for a thorough easy updated summary for all newbies, thanks RenatoPhoto!

For European countries 25fps is standard. With raw_rec enabled there is a possibility of 34fps with fps override on 2.35:1 Cinescope(5DIII+Lexar 1000x). Which gives a slight overcrank of a few percentage when interpreted to 25fps, nice!

Your point "14. Digital dolly" I think could be removed, sins you are talking explicitly of full frame recording.

Also, I think this topic should be locked for comments for obvious reasons.

Tried Adobe DNG Converter on some frames and went from 3.4Mb to 2.2Mb per frame.
(1920x1080)

Compability Camera Raw 7.1
JPG: Real size
No compression
No raf file embed.

Whats up with that? Any ideas to why it shrunk this much? Still 14-bit I believe!

I cant see any difference at all quality wise.

With the 5D mark 3 zoom in once (crop mode) go to the resolution menu and you should be able to scroll to 3.5k now.

Yepp found it, thanks. Tho only available in 12fps. Also I get heavily vertical banding. Friano75 what version/date raw2dng.exe are you using?

Good tutorial vid btw!

Raw Video / Re: Video in 3.5k raw

Nice! Do I need to disable some setting in ML menu to achieve the high resolution? I am not able to scroll to the 3.5k resolution I raw video menu!

EDIT: Oh, only 12fps, sorry :)

July 15, 2013, 09:32:10 AM
Replying on my own question.

Old version Eye-fi and Canon 5D Mark III + Magic Lantern July 13th(0311185) is working correctly. probably earlier releases, have not tried.

Autostart of autoexec working.

The X2 Cards I don't know about.

I believe you can find some data here:

http://www.dxomark.com/index.php/Cameras/Camera-Sensor-Database/Canon/

Instead of "very large" maby replace with actual numbers?
