General Chat / Please do not list items for sale

Hey Folk,
I'm selling *******, and I figured I'd give you all a heads up about it.

Thanks,

Here is another quick montage of clips we filmed in 5D3 RAW using the camera gimbal that I built.

Thanks.  It's a hand-off threw the window in the office, then hooked onto a single pulley ($2.85) and a steel cable (free) to the ceiling.  There was no crane involved, and the reason for the sake at the end is because a single cable pulley causes the top bar to spin - all things considered... the gimbal performed outstandingly.

I'd honestly say that this gimbal (all things considered) out performs the M10 from Freefly in a variety of ways.

I'm glad you all likely it!  I'm planning on pushing for lots of these kinds of shots in the future - they're tons of fun to dream up.

Here is a link to the first "Impossible Shot" that we did using a custom/homebrew (MōVI) camera gimbal that I built, and a 5D3 shooting raw.

Also, here is a link to a video of the gimbal that I built.

There aren't really any blueprints.  There is, however, a wealth of free knowledge - much like what you find on here - in the RC community forums about how to build these suckers.

If you're used to navigating this site to learn about hacking you're camera, it should be a breeze.

Less than the cost of the Mk3, but over-all I didn't keep track that well.  I had lots of little supplies that I needed (IE - a soldering iron, hex keys, wires, etc) that any one who does electrical projects would have.
#7
I got them from all over the place, mostly eBay...  shipping was a slow slow nightmare.  It took me a while cause I first had to learn how to solder circuit boards, and do electrical wiring... which I had no clue about when I started working on it.

I had so much fun messing around with the Magiclantern firmware on my Mk3 last year that THIS year, I decided to start playing around with other camera components too.

Here is a link to my Mk3 shooting raw video on a MōVI-like camera gimbal that I assembled, and wired.  Hoping to have lots more footage to share soon.

General Chat / VGA output???
January 24, 2014, 07:23:19 PM
Hey,
So I just hooked up my 5d3 to an old steadicam that only has VGA, and my screen is full of text, ML Asserts, and when I go to press record to shoot some raw video, the camera locks up and shuts down.

What is going on?  Is this a known issue?  Is there a way to get the camera to display over VGA and still record in RAW?

Thanks.

General Development / Sync Peep Syncing
January 04, 2014, 02:59:09 PM
There has been a lot of discussion about the best way to sync audio for ML raw with an external recording device, and lately I have been experimenting with using the sync beeps with a wireless transmitter.

Over the summer, I filmed a project where we used ML raw, and clap slated every single shot with a smart slate.  That process is OK, and the best for complete confidence... but it also takes a lot of time, and extra footage/HD space too.

TC would be the best option, and it is in development...

I'd like to know if anyone else is using the beeps to sync, and what results they are having.  I'm using a Tascam DR-680, and feeding the beep onto the 6th channel via a wireless transmitter.  What I am finding that the beeps are around 7 frames off from the start time of raw_rec.mo (I'm using V1).  That would be perfectly fine if I was to use that for a project... but does it stay consistent? What are your experiences?

Thanks.

Are you sure, that memory hack shouldnt be ON?

Should it be? I don't know.  It isn't in my setup and it is working.

tried 5 times I did get 1at 3mins also dave are you still getting .M00 files also?

everytime the file needs to break pass the 4GB size thats when it starts.

Yep, I'm still getting .m00 files, but I am not (nor did I ever) have an issue with them splitting.

Warm up your card and set picture quality to jpg not raw.
I get continuous woth 24fps 1920x1080 with sound and continuous with 25fps after warmed up card

I have picture quality set to raw not jpg.

I do think it is important to note that with sync beep on, several times my first frame has been garbled and no audio was recorded, despite mlv sound being on.

what are your settings on MLV_REC?
after about 60-75secs it skips and i tried all 8 of my KB cards.. lol

Audio
1 Beep, test tones - off
2 MLV Sound - ON
   - trace off
   - Sample rate 48k

Movie
1 - REC indicator - Elapsed Time
2 - Gradual Expo - off
3 - FPS override - off
4 - HDR video - off
5 - Vignetting - off
6 - Image Finetunning - none
7 - RAW video (MLV) - on, 1920x1080
   - disable g draw - off
   - frame skip - off
   - preview - ML Grayscale (I'm using a zacuto evf so it isn't grayscale over hdmi)
   - start delay - off
   - digital dolly - off
   - card warm-up - off
   - memory hack -off
   - extra hacks - on
   - debug trace - off
   - show buffer graph - off
   - test mode - off
   - buffer fill method - 4
   - CF-only buffers - 3
   - Card spanning - off
   - tag:text - none
   - tag:take - off
8 - Movie Tweaks
   - movie logging - off
   - REC/stby - red crossout
   - dim rec led - on
   - force liveview - start& cpulens

Modules - file_man, mlv_rec, mlv_snd  *no other modules loaded.

Sound in canon menu is on auto.

I'm not sure if ALL of these settings make a difference... but maybe it'll help trace down the issue.

I shot a full 12 mins @ 1920x1080 with sound on a 5D3 with the 64gb KomputerBay 1000x card in a test.  Maybe this isn't new information, but I was reading that people were having issues with skipping... I didn't lose sync once.

*It is important to note, however, in a previous attempt with the sync beep on (which didn't sound at rec start) there was NO recorded audio when I processed the clip.

When I run the latest version on OS 10.7, it produces a random .WAV file in the source folder...  why?  Any chance we'll get sound playback soon?

BTW, you are the man!

To this I am going to say; WTF?
And see baldand's response.
Sorry, I think at first glance it just appeared to be someone complaining.

When I turn the camera on, MLV Sound & MLV Raw seem to be turned off by default.  Is this the case, or do I not have a setting flipped or something?

I don't thing they'd have any grounds to seek legal action against them, but regardless... this is a forum for Canon firmware.

I'm shooting on a 5D3 with 64gb 1000x KB cards.  I shot about 1:30 of mlv_raw w/audio and got some stuff I hadn't seen before...  On the card, I have 3 files M26-0833.mlv, M26-0833.M00, and M26-0833.M01.  Why did it span my shot across multiple clips?  How do I combine them?

I am using the latest MLV_REC.mo and have never seen this before...

NVM it's automatic...  Why did it span though?
