Nevermind I'm a fool.

It's in the Timeline Playback/Conform options in the master settings of your project in Davinci

General Chat / Advice on Post Processing
October 05, 2013, 07:29:07 PM
I'm shooting a music video soon and want to use ML Raw. I've used it before on a video and the sync was great (used a clapperboard). This time I want to shoot 48FPS and also speed up the soundtrack 30%. In post I plan to slow down the clip 30% to sync for that overcranked slomo effect etc.

Here's the problem - I plan to shoot 1920x508 at 48FPS using FPS Override. And then stretch to 1920x818 in post. I normally process my files in davinci but davinci conforms my files to 23.976/24 frames for me. Which is a 50% slow down... (IM USING DAVINCI resolve lite) I don't want to speed it up by 20% in premiere because I'll lose quality.

So basically I'm looking for a way to export 48fps from Davinci or another way?

Any help guys?

General Chat / Animation Layered On Top OF Video?
August 03, 2013, 01:17:53 AM

Hey guys I've been watching a few music videos lately and I've noticed this animation people use and it looks pretty awesome. Does anyone know exactly what tools or how one goes about achieving this look/effect?

Reference vids would be - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1nZKwreCVtU

Hi guys,

What kind of workflow are you using in post?
I'm on a iMac and use Rawmagic and after effects. But i'm curious about what else is out there.
Ive been trying to work with DaVinci Resolve but it just isn't what I'm looking for (as far as my knowledge of the software goes)...
When working with DaVinci I immediately start to miss all the options Camera Raw...

Is someone familiar with with both software who can convince me other wise? Because I read a lot of good things about DaVinci Resolve so I'm a bit confused right now...

- What workflow do you guys use?

A lot of people use the Adobe Camera Raw workflow. Why don't you just find some color grading tutorials ON DaVinci...it's a pro application - you can't just open it and start using it - invest some time in learning what does what etc - there is a reason why the pros use it. If not just use something simple.

+1 I would like this too as I was trying to understand the histogram/waveform a little better today - any info would be great.

Will test this out when I get home! Don't know why people haven't really caught onto this workflow? Before it was the command line terminal etc that put me off - wasn't really clear to me.

But now we can skip that step I'm going to be all over this! Thanks

Raw Video / Re: RAW and h.264 only for synced audio

Don't know why you guys are so damn rude to people.

It actually doesn't sound like a bad idea - I dont know shit about it but I'd rather hear a more constructive answer from the devs than what you guys are saying above. It's a forum - he has the right to ask questions - step off your high horse.

I really like this idea though. Battery life better or worse compared to a conventional time lapse?

not sure if its a SD card or CF card, i only used the SD card because i dont want or have a CF reader, i normally use a USB cable for the CF transfers, are you saying i have to use a CF card?

thanks

I think you better wait until a public release is made.

Will we ever be able to consolidate the audio with the clips (maybe within the raw file) or is that impossible?

Komputerbay 64GB 1000x card was working fine earlier...( 5D MARK III) tried hack 3d to see what i could push it to. Then went back to 1080p it wouldnt even run that (normally does easily). then took it out of the camera and put it into the computer - no response - put it back in the camera - camera couldnt read it or format it..

what do i do next?

card was formatted to exfat but i didnt record over 4gb files on it yet. any ideas? thank

Took it downstairs to the imac used a different card reader the Imac read it. Disk Utility for some reason thought it was 613GB but Finder read it properly I deleted the raw file manually put it back in the cam - it ran perfectly with no issues at 1080p...anomaly i guess.

RAW video sure is exciting, partcularly for me making my living in the darkness! I have installed it on my 5D3, and it records really well @24fps using my 128GB Lexar Pro 1000x UDMA7 card.

BUT, the vertical banding on the stills captured with my camera worries me. In my opinion it is so bad, that it renders the whole feature useless!

The banding is so bad that it is not something you just get rid of using noise reduction. In a way I really hope it is something wrong with my camera, but I doubt it. Will post pictures later.

What on earth could be causing this banding?

Overexpose a little. (Expose to the right: google it) further reading into the forum will explain it (fixed pattern noise)

but to you it is a difference in exposure from what I see from the live view of what then records inraw? I have at least 2 stop of underexposure on the recording ....

I apologize for my English use a translator ..

Use the Waveform and Expose to the Right! I was having he same problem and this helped a lot

Scraw it still doesn't work with the larger file sizes. Anything over 2 gb won't convert for me (I'll do them on my windows computer) but still this is a huge improvement thanks

Thanks Scrax we needed this!

My experience with the 64GB Komputerbay 1000x card has been pretty good. Can record 1920x1080 no problem..On the may 13th build it could keep up 1920x1152 but on May 18th/19th build it can't. But yeah here it is

Hi Guys sorry to butt in on this tread but i am having no luck getting my 5D Mark3 to actually record raw. The firmware seems to load fine but I don't have any of the menu options for frame rate override or Raw recording or anything like that. I am trying to do a test with Dave Stump on monday he an ASC Cinematographer and is the Head of Technology for the Academy of motion Picture. He has heard of this amazing new firmware and wants to see it working. Is there anyone that can help me figure this out for Monday?
Do I have to pay something for the right firmware i got it from the Magic Lantern web site and my camera even says that its the APLA 3 version etc. Please help ! Again sorry to butt it on this thread.

You have to load the module and then it will pop up. Make sure you have the latest build which you can find here
