Feature Requests / Re: [DONE] RAW overexposure warning
October 27, 2013, 04:24:47 AM
if i disable the liveview and the review (because eats a lot of battery in a canon 7d)
will ETTR work in a timelapse?
#3
i can replicate the symtoms of sort of dead camera
i follow this guide:
http://www.magiclantern.fm/forum/index.php?topic=7464.0

update the firmware and camera went "dead"

Follow the same solution.
remove the CF card
remove the 2 batteries (no need of 5 minutes)

even if i use the cf card camera just froze. no lcd, nothing. like dead.

careful.
isn´t the CF. is posible that magic lantern.
#4
any progress with the pink dots in raw video?

also got an error while recording raw video. (it just switch to normal video but i can´t replicate again)

raw histogram in photo mode doesn´t appear or at least is extremely slow.
video mode it´s normal. maybe 1-2 second delay.

is it normal?

global draw all modes.
zebras : raw rgb
Histogram: rgb, lin, dots, raw
All others: off

BUG:
when you select flash tweaks and 3rd p flash Live view on
the camera just freezes. it takes pictures but you can autofocus anymore. you have to turning off the camera.

you can replicate this even without external flash. just put live view and try to take a picture with that setting on.
#9
nanomad is it possible to make available the quick autofocus mode in video like canon 7d?
photo mode has it but if switched to video recording that function is lost and it´s useful.

Thanks but it really seems dead. Are you sure you did nothing else?

A couple of things that may be the cause this:
-When i installed ML and did the firmware update it said it couldn't find any update.
-I set the fps override to 65fps
-Directly after the above step, under the FPS Override category i was switching between Accurate fps, 180d no yello effect (or whatever it was called) etc.

that happen to me once.

i just pulled of the battery and charge it 100%
then don´t enter sd card
and turn on the camera on other than manual mode. like program or auto etc.
turn in off and move the dial to manual and turn it on

format the sd card and install ml again.

when i shoot a picture in video mode the raw files read it with 16:9. that´s a 15.1MP file, not 18MP.

there is a lightroom plugin to restore the original aspect ratio but needs to convert the image to dng and then it duplicates the file.
that´s a lot of work.

can magic lantern make something about this? maybe deactivate the function that gives 16:9 ratio to the metadata in the raw file in video mode.

#12
there is a bug when i activate raw video.
1. sometimes when you hit the button to stop the recording it doesn´t, so the normal hd video from canon starts. the raw video stops but still get buffering the raw video and then i can stop normal video.
the only way to do it is to turn it off.

2. also if you hit by mistake load modules two times, camera blocks and the camera has to be turned off. can be this prevented?

3. if i turn on fps overide to 24fps (23.976)  doesn´t record audio. can be this fixed please?

great news!
Important thing for videographers here is to perform a benchmark of the sd card to confirm if it has the same limit of t4i.
can you share some info about that nanomad? :)

Benchmark results seem to differ in photo and video mode ...
Sandisk 95 MByte/s, 8 GByte
I use this build:
https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/sh/q1zrrlmy03psr2y/NoRx3aSzTl/ML_N_28.05.2013.zip

10 MByte/s more would be fine, but it seems the controller is the bottleneck.
Ciao, Walter

looks like with a t4i it´s best to get a 45MB/s  card because with a 95MB/s you don´t get better performance at all.
anyways it will be cool to know if t5i has the same limitation.
i think at least 10MB/s more will get the job done for 1280x720

if useful i have some crash logs:
currently using the build of satriani.
works ok. but be careful i got a semibrick or err (i dont remember what number i just pull of the battery and all is allright)

if i use 24fps over ride i can obtain 600+ frames of 1280x720. That´s 3x times what i get the normal way. But it crashes if i choose other any option than optimized for low light.

Benchmarks with a sandisk 45MB/s

Please anyone with a 95MB/s make a benchmark a post it, will be helpful to see what buffer are better and if by any chance there is at least 10MB more of performance over a 45MBs :)

I just saw this gadget http://vimeo.com/64769471, looks pretty interesting because it seems that you can connect an SSD via USB connection and wiressly.
and  it´s capable of  stream or transfer recorded video to mobile device.

Maybe magic lantern can do something with this?:

500-Image Buffer for Continuous Shooting
802.11b/g/n Wi-Fi
Data Rate: 20Mbps (2MB/s maybe not enough)
For iPad, iPhone, Mac
Attaches via Hotshoe or Tripod Mount
USB 2.0 Interface
Photoshop, Bridge, Lightroom Integration

(my english isnt that good to describe it so i just copy paste from their website)
"iUSBportCAMERA turns your mobile device into both an advanced remote control as well as a wireless high resolution viewer for your DSLR camera. Allow your clients to instantly see photos on the big screen as you shoot. Also perfect for those challenging shots when you cannot be right next to your camera but still wish to have full control over it. Shoot photos and videos with live view and touch focusing while having access to all camera settings as though you are right next to it."

You need to compile build from a last source or you can feel free an use build compiled by me here.
Set a boot flags an your SD and extract zip to SD. Works very well.
And please diligently and extensively report the bugs ;)

i just tried your build. thanks for the compile.

bugs:
1. one crash when i set the picture style in magic lantern menu, (the camera goes crazy)

and the most important thing: for now every raw video i shot gives this pattern of dots:

testing here
Achieving 200 frames at 1280x720
34MB/s with my 45MB sandisk. :P
all other ML things turned off (zebras, focus peaking etc)

below that i can record without problems.
higher than that i can only do like between 2 seconds and 4 seconds. the best i can top it´s like 45MB

what´s the best workflow with this raw?
can anybody share some good tutorial :)

same 650D. :)
i found the [REC key] under the MOVIE section, and set it to [halfshutter],and it worked, with a wired shutter trigger or just the shutter on the camera.

BUT i noticed that the instructions below says [Start recording by press shutter halfway. Wired remote]

@nanomad    does that mean a wired remote works with this feature but a wireless one doesn't?

i guess there must be some difference of the operating principles between the wired and wireless remote/shutter trigger

i just confirmed this.
it works ok wiressly!
nice :D

i tried to google it and figured out it is a wireless trigger,im not sure whether a wireless trigger works but if that still needs to be pluged in the jack on the side of the camera, it would work cuz i tried my wire trigger?cable trigger?(dunno what to call it for my poor vocabulary.....) just now.it worked and started recording video when i half push the shutter,

i have this one :http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0050E7OSM/ref=oh_details_o00_s00_i02?ie=UTF8&psc=1

i want to try that but i can´t find the option in this prealpha.
what camera did you use? i have a 650d
#21
can i activate Movie REC key in this prealpha?
i was trying to find it but it seems it lacks this feature. want to try if it´s possible to trigger video with a 603 younguo.

i think that anyform of raw video in a canon rebel will push the camera and cinema industry to unknown levels.
is it possible that camera makers like sony or panasonic will stay quiet and decide to not implement camera raw in their cameras next year? i don´think so. they have to. it´s an obligation now that currently with a hack, canon has the upperhand at least at the midrange.

just hack one rebel one and things are going to get very entertaining in the industry.

No. This appears to be a limitation of the SD hardware in the 650D.  ~40MB/s

in the specifications of t4i it says that it supports the latest  UHS-I SDHC cards.

here http://www.imaging-resource.com/PRODS/canon-t4i/canon-t4iA6.HTM it says that with a SanDisk Extreme Pro 95MB/s the Time per shot, averaged over 6 shot buffer capacity.
so if we are making something like it´s the 1/9 of a default raw wich is 18MP maybe we can dream a little of taking HD video wich is only 2MP.

That's as good as it gets on the 650D, so yes. That card is ok

will be possible with a SanDisk Extreme Pro 95MB/s UHS-I to get double speed? so maybe we can achieve at least 720p at 90Mbs.?

be careful with FPS overide!!!!
for some reason this option is turned on the first time you install the prealpha in your camera.

i was checking options like 1 minute and the screen began to show banding.
red lines across!!!
i´ve seen this in another camera and this symptom isn´t good. it can damage your camera.

so be careful and wait for a stable release and please turn it off as soon as you install this prealpha.

anyways.
magic zoom isn´t working good.
even when is the only feauture activated and without sound recording.
