General Chat / Re: Apertus Axiom Beta
February 12, 2016, 02:29:15 AM
Probably same as mothaibaphoto I participated crowdfunding and supported Axiom with 350 €.
While the idea is so great, implementation is little slow so I decided not to move forward with phase 1 as of yet.

Will see how it is progresses. Meanwhile I switched from my lovely 5DIII to Sony A7sII which has greal low light, 4K p30 internal and FullHD p120 but of course I'm missing RAW.

Take a look at the film I shot during few weeks vacation in New Zealand.

It was a pre-RAW era and I have had Canon 600D that time but Magic Lantern was still very helpfull.

Hope you will like it!

Andrey

(better to see in Full HD)

Hi guys!

I'm using ML for about 2 years, your recent achiements RAW and dual ISO are very impressive!

Do you have plans to update raw2dng utility to be able to  merge lo/hi iso frames and get hdr dng frames? I like dual ISO function but for some cases (timelapses) I'd like to get full frames blended rather than intrerlaced frames recovery. Previous workflow (before RAW times) with Avisinth/VirtualDub was working good but would be great to have raw workflow like raw2dng for dual ISO.

Thank you!

Andrey

Maximum normal resolution is 1920x1280 (for 5D Mark III). This is covering full sensor so you can's go wider unless you have crop mode or if you find new way to read image date outside of the sensor. :-)

Raw Video / Re: 1920x1080 RAW - real resolution?

Another test comparing frame from 1:1 crop RAW at 24mm (upper image) and normal video RAW at around 72mm(lower image). Visible resolution is about the same while 1:1 have more visible noise, I shot with ISO 1600 though.

@AndreyM

There is clearly less detail and sharpness in the resized RAW images.  This could be caused by the resizing algorithm you used.
And clearly less detail and sharpness in the RAW vs downsized photo.
Could you please update with images from a RAW x5 zoom (1:1 crop)?

I did several video RAW shots with 1:1 crop and it's appears excatly the same quality in comparison with Full Frame photo in RAW.
By the way I love this 1:1 crop and it was the reason I was still using 600D (since it is the only Canon DSLR providing this mode natively). For example full moon rise here http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NP7hy5R9MLs I shot with Canon 600D + EF 70-200 lens.
Now having this feature on 5D3 with ML in 14 bit RAW is awesome !!!

Thanks Magic Lantern and everybody contributing!

Good test! What would be nice to make the picture complete: can you make a raw video test 1600x900? :)
I assume if shot in 1600x900 RAW and upscale to 1920x1080 it will have about the same visible resolution (or even litle bit better) as 1920x1080 camera H.264.

Raw Video / 1920x1080 RAW - real resolution?
May 28, 2013, 01:29:51 PM
Hi All,

Sorry if it's wrong place for my topic or if it's simple question. I got my 5D3 few days ago and started to test RAW recording in 1920x1080. Of course it looks way better than camera compressed videos but I'am still interresting if we get real 1920x1080 resolution. So I did few simple test coparing H.264, ML RAW and downscaled RAW photos. I may be wrong but my eyes over picture I prepared below saying that we have around 1600x900 as result of ML RAW.  Result is still great in comparison with H.264 onboard but...

Best Regards,
Andrey

Picture contain several 200% samples of H.264, ML RAW in 1920x1080, Full frame photo downscaled to 1600x900 and full frame photo downscaled to 1920x1080

Hi,

Can you recommend 64 or 128 gb 1000x CF for continious 1920x1080 25p RAW shoting?
As I see most people test 32 gb and there is also information than 32gb faster than bigger size but from practical side 32gb is too small for RAW so 64 or 128 looks better.

P.S. I wonder if anyone heard about SSD to CF adapters. Would be great to be able to connect fast 256-512GB SSD  through adapter into CF slot.

Best Regards,
Andrey

Interesting to see! H.264 looks overexposed. Definetly more color information in the RAW but not more pixel details. It looks like too much sharpened (like unsharp mask effect) so this moire and pixels are weird.

If 600D and/or SD cards capabitilies not enough to write Full HD in RAW any chance to get low frame rate FULL HD RAW?
Even 5-8 fps in Full HD  RAW would be great addition to have for 600D !!!

Andrey

Here is what I show with Canon 600D + ML and animated with Adobe After Effects. It's better to see in full HD.
