Camera-specific Development / Re: Canon EOS M

Thank you my friend. As usual, you provide quick and on the point answer :)
I will try the "lua-fix" solution.
Do you have a simple explanation for why the sticky shutter is behaving differently on the EOS compared to the 5D mk2?
On the MK2, I can use the shutter to go in and out of sticky shutter-mode without any hickups.
This is really nice as it gives me a super easy and reliable way of switching between "settings-mode" and "live-mode" :)

:)
I have an annoying problem with my trusted EOSM
I am setting up a budget friendly streaming studio using available canon cameras (5D mk2, 5D mk3 and EOS-M) and a Black magic Atem mini Pro as video-mixer and capture card.

I scale up the HDMI output of the cameras by 120% to get around the lack of clean 16:9 HDMI output from the 5Dmk2 and the EOS-M.

Everything works fine with the 5Dmk2/5Dmk3 but the EOS gets "stuck" when I use the ML "sticky-shutter" function to get around the 30min limit. I can activave the sticky shutter but I seem unable to deactivate it without turning off the camera (no battery pull needed)

I am running FW202 and I have tried several different builds to no avail.
Any thoughs on this particular issue?
Thanks

My apologies if this has been answered already.
I am building a small streaming studio using a Black Magic ATEM Mini Extreme ISO as a video mixer. This allows me to stream directly from the device and furthermore to setup a super user-friendly multi-camera zoom-call. (The ATEM mini can work "like a webcam", sending the live-edited multi-camera stream straight to zoom without the need for additional software.

Previously, I was using a software solution, allowing me to scale up the HDMI feed from a 5D mk2 by aprox. 120% in order to turn the 3:2 output to 16:9 (getting rid of the black bars)
As this is not an option when using the ATEM Mini setup, I was wondering if anyone knows of an affordable hardware solution to scale/resize/overscan that can achieve a similar result?
I think there is a chance that it could be done with a "Decimator MD-HX HDMI and SDI Cross Converter with Scaling & Frame Rate Conversion", but I am unable to confirm if it will work (and ideally, I would love to find a cheaper solution as I need to get 2 or 3 of them) :) Thanks

not quite sure what I am doing wrong with the windows version.
When using the version of MLVFS.exe linked in the OP, I get the pure noise output as others have experienced (probably from using the lossless 12b it compression)
When I try the fixed described above (to put mlvfz.exe in the mlv folder and run it) I get a "missing dokanfuse1.dll" msg.
When I copy the missing file into the folder and run mlvfz again, CMD returns to prompt and nothing happens.

EDIT:
Using the latest dokany & visual studio & the folders linked below, I have everything working in x64 :) Yay, thanks!

Great that you found the right file. As the question is recurring and documentation of this great tool outdated, I post here a compilation of both 32 and 64-bit version of mlvfs already supporting lossless compression + required DLLs, so one doesn't need to install anything, just use it as is:
https://bitbucket.org/ArcziPL/magic-lantern/downloads/mlvfs_x86_x64.zip
All inside this package is found compiled on some online repositiories of users of this forum. I just put it all together in one place.

Necro question: ever updated ML in the last two years?
https://bitbucket.org/hudson/magic-lantern/pull-requests/615/dof_display/diff

Mind...blown.... :D

thank you so much!
And yes, I had a pause in film making while working on a dissertation in philosophy.
This feature is absolutely amazingly useful to me, thank you!
(and sorry about the oversight :) )

@eyeland, you are a grave digger ;)

I Just bought the bundle but can't get started since the user guide is in the membership area of the site and I get some weird registration error.
Wrote a support ticket earlier today.
Getting slightly impatient as I can't get started on the project that I bought it for :)
Would anyone care to send me a link or a copy of the userguide for Resolve while I wait?
I know that it is a pretty straightforward workflow, just wanna make sure that I get everything right from the start.
Much obliged/ Rune

Sorry about the Necro, just suddenly remembered and was wondering if there was ever any progress on implementation?

Personally, I never really found any of the proposed workarounds to give me what I need, so I am still waiting as well :)

This is amazing :D
Has anyone played around with cranking frame-rates up instead of resolution?

Did you use IS? I am wondering what is causing the slight stutter in a few of the shots?
Either way, nicely done :)

Raw Video Postprocessing / Re: SlimRaw – CDNG compression tool
« on: January 31, 2016, 01:17:40 AM »
Lossless CinemaDNG size varies with content, but if we assume an average compression ratio of 2:1 for ML raw, the calculation goes like this:
FullHD 14-bit lossless CinemaDNG: 1920*1080*14/8*24/2 ~= 43.5 MB/s (at 24fps)
FullHD 12-bit ProRess4444XQ: 396 mb/s = 49.5 MB/s (at 24fps)
Thanks, Thats really nice :) I second the suggestion above about a container to avoid having to store them as individual files :)

Hardware and Accessories / Re: Compiled list of card speeds

Kind of off topic, but for anyone interested, there seems to have been a minor price drop on the 128GB 1066X KB cards on amazon.de
Amazon.de =79 Euro (85USD)
Amazon.co.uk = 75 Pound (107USD
Amazon.com= 93 USD
Apart from being way cheaper than eBay, 85USD is by far the cheapest I've ever seen these :D

Nice work!
Would someone care to make a size comparison between Slimraw lossless cDNG and log Pro Ress 4444 XQ ?

Reverse Engineering / Re: Reverse Engineering Picture Styles

@dfort Yea, that's more or less what I have been doing, guess I'll stick to tweaking curves as needed until I can convince my clients to go the extra mile with ML Raw :)

@Dfort
I might have gotten slightly confused as it was late night when I posted :)
I understand the difference between "flatting" the image in-camera vs ACR (or similar).
I still use h264 with cinestyle on occasion as I have been doing some super-low-budget stuff for friends recently.
To word my question differently, is there a better S-curve lut for cinestyle than the low resolution one mentioned by Andy?
Or perhaps also a better flat picture style all together? (I know that most of the effort concerning h264 died out after ML raw appeared, but I suspect that many people still use canons h264 regularly)

re: the S-Curve_for_Cinestyle.mga lut included with Cinestyle. It's actually quite poor in terms of resolution even for 8bit.
Any suggestions on what to use instead?
Edit: I forgot about your cinelog-c, I assume that's what you refer to?

I'd love to see this scaled to 4K and compared with other 4K solutions. Then again, like so many others, I don't have a 4K monitor for doing that :)

can the assassin or external recorders a like, record the mlv raw out of the 5D3? Or does the camera just output the h.264 through the hmdi even with mlv raw enabled
The answer to most of your questions are present in the first page of the relevant sticky. In other words, these things have been debated over and over and asked again and again.
Also, to answer your question, no, as of now, you still only get the same tired 8bit signal via HDMI. Only difference as I understand it is that you get it prior to h264 compression and thus, slightly better than the in-camera .mov output.

Well, you can push your 5D above 1080 and then scale your way to 4K and surely achieve a better "4"K result than many consumer "4"K solutions, but that's not what you're after I suspect :)
