Tragic Lantern / Re: 7D Raw Thread
October 16, 2013, 01:30:40 PM
I have a question about cards also. I've been following this thread for some time already and now wondering what would be the best card to buy.

I would really prefer a 128gb card instead of two 64gb cards, and If I have understood correctly, the komputerbay 128gb 1000x would work in 7d, but is slower than 64, or 32gig ones? Please correct me if I'm wrong.

Then there's komputerbay 128gb 1050x card, that would be faster, but it has some internal "firmware"? (don't know if this is the correct word) that's newer than on 1000x cards, and that 7D doesn't understand. Is this correct? And if so, is this something that could be changed by komputerbay? Or is the new "firmware" required to get the faster speeds?

In short my question is; What would be the cheapest reliable 128gb card, that would allow me to shoot using the best raw quality possible with 7d? Or is there one?

I just noticed a problem that I THINK it is related to Magic Lantern.. cause I read it around here but now cannot find the specific posts.

I use my 7D for filming only, hardly ever take any photos. So last friday I got a photo job.. ok, let's do it! But it looks like the autofocus works like crap!! At first it wasn't working at all.. half-pressed my shutter button and nothing, completely dead.. Tried swapping batteries, cards, removing ML, nothing.. still the same.. the lens worked ok, because I tested it on another camera earlier.. So after several tried, workarounds, taking pics in manual mode, then turning autofocus on, etc etc I managed to get it partially working.. it didnt work all the time.. every now and then I had to swap the AF-MF button on the lens.. :/

I think it is ML related because I think I read around this thread that people had 7D's with autofocus broken... truth is I am really scared about this.. if this is true I won't be able to sell the camera, or take pictures.. am I hallusinating or does this happened before? If so, is there any fix??

BTW I haven't been able to test it with another lens.. but the one that was given was good I believe!!!

Thank you very much to all, I love ML and hope there's a way out to this!!!!
Cheers!

Have you checked your camera settings? Due to some ML error, my camera settings had once changed and I didn't have the shutter button assigned to AF no more. This can be found in Canon menu - C. Fn IV - 1 settings. (The very first one)
I thought for a minute too that my shutter button was broken, as I hadn't touched the settings myself..

Maybe I've missed it, but is there a way in Alpha 2 to shoot 1080p at 50 or 60fps? I hate having to drop down to 720p to shoot overcranked.

Hi! I don't think it's possible yet. Would be cool indeed, so hopefully at some point . I was wondering if it might be possible to shoot at even higher framerates by lowering the resolution? I mean how fast is the raw image buffer? Would higher than 60fps even be possible?

You don't have to download, install, run EU just skip the whole thing.

Did I get this right.. with these two patches I can make firmware "update" files for the 7D,
I can rename the files to for example "7D_203_booton.fir", and "7D_203_bootoff.fir", and with the firmware update function INSIDE my 7D, I can now switch the bootflag on and off without a computer? Can I have the two files on my card simultaneously to be able to do this switch on the go too?

Press MENU or flip the mode dial.

Oh, it's that easy. Feel kinda dumb now.. Not only for posting this, but for waiting for my camera to take the last photos too.  ;D
Thanks a1ex!

Hi!

Would it be possible to add a cancel button / feature to advanced bracketing. I've often taken HDR photos in the nighttime with low iso and the exposure times might rise up to 15 minutes or above.
ML shows quick reviews of the photos on the camera display, and often I see that the last photo already had enough light in the darkest areas of the photo, but the ML automatics (or my own settings) still want to take one (or two) more photo and I have to wait over 15 minutes, or turn off my camera while it's taking the photo.

I really don't like the last option, as I already did that once (it was getting cold outside) and it messed up my camera settings. I remember that at least the af was no longer on the half press of my shutter button where it used to be. Some other settings were messed too. Might be bad for the camera also?

Anyway, it would be perfect if we could stop the photo sequence by simply pressing the shutter button again. Could this behaviour be added if possible, please.

And thank you! I can't say enough how much I appreciate your work.

(Im using 7D btw)

EosCard1.35 working here also, thank you! And to pelican, I have the finnish language version of windows 7 (x64).
(Also I started to think the connection lost message in EOS Utility was due to some error. )
But now it boots to ML!!! YESSS!

BTW, is the card light supposed to be blinking all the time now that I have the newest ML running? Seems kinda weird..
And how about the beeb? Is this some developement thingy, or why does the camera beeb when switching between the shooting modes or when I turn the camera on. I can disable it from settings of course, but will this also disable the minute beeps with long exposures when shooting in nighttime? (That I kinda liked).

1.  should say "run eos7d123.exe" now you have the bsdiff twice there. :)
Thank you... Just trying with this one.

"Exception EConvertError in module EOScard.exe at 00021E67."
"Invalid argument to date encode."
That's the same error I got..

I was able to do almost everything, but when trying to download ML, EOScard.exe just crashed on my windows. (I'm running VM windows inside mac, so that might be the reason.) Anyway, could someone please send the needed ML files to me? I'd appreciate that. My email is in my profile info. Or where can I find the needed files? I would have tried the ones pelican just posted, but the last link was bad..and I believe there might be something else too?  Sorry if this has been mentioned before.

Thank you!

Awesome news just keep on coming! Thanks for the developers!
Just one question.. if I install this autoboot version with the bootflag, then what happens if I insert my eye-fi card that has no ML on it?
Will my camera still boot to canon firmware?
And what if I have the non bootable version of 7D alpha on my other card. Will something weird happen if I have the bootflag thingy enabled?

Thanks again!

But much better if you trust in the developers and use the alpha until they decide to make a beta version which autoloads itself.

Yeah, I'll definately wait for the beta version instead of downgrading my fw. :)

Before I start digging through all the dev stuff and repositories, is there everything in the repositories to easily compile an autostarting version for the 7D (without any additional coding)? If so, a pointer to where to look for would be great. Thanks :-)

Yeah, I would love to see an autostarting version too. Even without all of the latest features if some are unstable and not yet fully tested. They could be added gradually when stable?  ;) I think many would benefit from having ML ready when turning the camera on. But of course first things first, and take your time to do your magic. I know I couldn't, so who am I to tell what you should do.  :)

wait.. you use an SD card? i guess you use an SD->CF adaptor, right?

That's right. I hear the older adapters don't work with eye-fi but I've got a new one and it works perfectly. Here's a post about it on eye-fi forums in case you're interested: http://forums.eye.fi/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=326&start=60#p27298

Hi!
I've been following the forum for some time already, but this is my first post so I got to say the obvious first... Your work is awesome, thank you all for developing ML!

I would love to see the 7D version self bootable, but take your time. (I know you will. :) )

I'm using an eye-fi card (the new 16gb pro X2 version) with my 7D whenever I don't need a fast card. (which is most of the time) and I was wondering if it will work with ML or not?
Some say that ML doesn't work with the new X2 cards, but then I read this:
http://www.magiclantern.fm/forum/index.php?topic=2457.msg20790#msg20790
Does this mean we can somehow self-modify the eye-fi card to work with ML? Does a1ex have some trick to make it work? This would be good news, as I would love to have both, ML and the eye-fi functionality.
